can someone tell me what is wrong with adam thompson?he is the sort of player we need in our side.hard at the ball in and under type.instead they include two jockeys, one who hasn't even played a game and the other who loves turning the ball over.

geese everyone get off the 'polo in' bangwagon. There is about 10 pages of it. He's not in the team get over it.

I think people are well within their right to voice their displeasure. There is genuine dissapointment at this decision because at face value it doesnt make sense, if he missed training or wasnt 100% then fair enough, otherwise....

Had some kind of injury and so didn't train with the main group last week and didn't play last weekend. I think he's right to go this week so he will probably be playing for Coburg.

People questioning Nahas' havent seen much of him quite clearly.
Just because he is small doesn't mean he isn't strong and can not tackle.
And what a shock that krustyman is one of those people, as dumb as they get.

stupid post, just because you put on weight doesnt mean you can all of a sudden tackle anyone in your path. if you have a good technic and you can bring down anyone.

Example A = Andrew Krakouer

Had some flaws in his game otherwise but was certainly a smaller guy who was still able to bring down bigger blokes... (Actually maybe that's why he is now where he is! :()

Anyway, he had a very good technique... would get a handfull of jumper and actually "pull" himself towards the player and get himself low around the hips to pull/bring him to ground.

Watch all of the good tacklers... they get the guy down almost in an instant. (Rugby League followers might recall Alfie Langer... little bloke who regularly bought 110Kg monsters down)

Tha bad tacklers either flail away with a stiff arm and get it knocked away or give a massive bear-hug and can't actually bring the player to the ground quickly...

Vote 1: Roachy 8 for Tigers Tackling Coach! :D

We brought in Nahas to add some tackling pressure to our forward line, yeah? I can't see him sticking any of those tackles :(

How much have you seen Nahas play? If you are basing your assumption on Nahas' size then you are sillier than I thought. Besides its not always about sticking the tackles (and just because he is thin doesn't mean he can' ttackle) its about putting yourself in a position to attempt the tackle in the very least ... Nahas will chase and put pressure on ... even a player chasing is a form of pressure and didn't see much of that last week

Ahh yes, Alfie. Rarely caught short (hehe) in defence despite being knee high to a grasshopper.

He did have a unique tackling style if I remember correctly :D

The ins this week are a stark reminder of how far up shit creek we are.
Gus in? So last week he wasnt deeemed good enough to be given the nod in front of Browne. Browne gets one game and out he goes and in comes Gus.
i.e. we go in with 21 players to start with.
And I have nothing against these 3, Rance, Nahas and Hislop, but they aint gunna fix the problems we have dudes.....we are shitful really.
What a waste of 5 years. We are nowhere near anything remotely aligned to a side that can mix it in the big time for a long time. ;)

George Gregan regularly dumped blokes twice his size such as Jonah Lomu

I have to say im pretty glad stokes is not playing - last year it was the stokes and milne type players that r*ped us.

IMO if we are to get anywhere near geelong we need to win these defensive matchups....

mcguane v hawkins - i reckon guandog can win this one, luke is is pretty tough and hawkins is pretty slow.

moore v mooney - moore probably our best option for mooney maybe can swap with mcguane if one of them is getting chopped.

rance v gamble - should be interesting, to young players go at it.

newman v johnson - once again probably our only option, i think they played on each other last time and johnson was in geelongs bests.

would of liked to of seen polo v chapman but i guess it will king, king is to short to play on anyone else accept ablett. king will only be a liabilty for us whoever he plays on will getting 3 votes.

mcguane on mooney
rance on hawkins
moore on gamble
polo on johnson
Bowden or Sarge loose man. ;)

Guys i honestly don't think Polo is going to be the difference between winning and losing. From all that has been said during the week the Tigers don't feel they have a big issue with the skill level, they considered it to be more an arbirtration than the standard. It's obvious they felt hardness was the main issue bringing in king and Rance.
I personally would of liked Polo in to play on Chapman or whoever Geelong played on a wing but i have no issue with the guys selected.
I would love to see King and nahas both playing in the forward line trying to pressure and create havoc. I would also like to see Deledio go straight to G. Ablett. One way to break a tag, we can try and hurt ablett the other way and it will free Deledio up from the pressure of a tag. I think Tuck goes to Bartel and Jackson goes to Joel Selwood or Chapman. We are really missing Cotchin and Coughlan for midfield depth at the moment. The thign with Geelong is they are not that quick, they just move it quick with their skills so hardness around the ball is going to be crucial

one of the smarter things i have read on bigfooty. they are really not that quick, they use it very well, i personally have been calling for Rance to be playing since about round 17 - 18 last season, he is the future of your club and thus needs games under his belt, he aint gonna go anywhere tearing up the VFL, no offence to the three mainstays in defence (maguane, moore, thursfield) but the defence will be built around Rance in probably 2 - 3 years time IMO, and thus needs game time, has already proven he can play in defence in the NAB cup, although I have a sneaking suspicion he may play forward

Can anyone tell me who King is a good match up for on the Geelong team?

And god help anyone who suggests Ablett.

you can back it in dude....TW will suggest it....lets face it he had the "foresight" to have Hyde run with Goodes last year..
Anyway its looking dark and dingy outside, so it looks like it might be one of those hard slogs in the wet tomorrow. Our "skills" will shine through if that occurs. God help us, we might have a scoreline that reads, us 2.12, them 21.24. If you know what i mean....20% is looking good. ;)

Are we aloud to trip in the AFL ?

I think Takling in the NRL is a bit different. Go Low is what my coach used to say. The bigger they are the harder they fall.

Bring on the Cats....Chase and Tackle. Pies attacked the cats like mental cases when they played and won by 80. Thats what we have to do.

If we f***ing want it, then go and get it. Leave nothing on the field.

Hopefully it's windy and rainy. The less we have to, and the Cats are allowed to, rely on their pin point running game, the better, however slim it is, our shot is. :thumbsu:

hes not really that skinny now, has a thickness about him, very strong through the core and would back him in to mix it physically with the geelong units. Has that element of mongrel which we lack. The highlighted points you made, thats enough for mine against Geelong, hes not that slow imo and geelongs midfield isnt overly quick, bartel, enright, corey ling.

and FTR agreed with the rest of your views

just thinking surely we wont go into a game vs big strong geelong with nahas 67kgs, edwards 76kgs and King the angry ant all in the same lineup? surely not
Maybe Polo isn't skinny, but he certainly isn't as strong as a slowish midfielder should be. He is developed, but in that wirey, shane tuck sort of way. Do you really think he has 1/10th of the core strength of chapman, ablett, bartel, corey, s.johnson etc. These guys have incredible strength in the hips and can break, or at least get their hands free in, any tackle. Polo doesn't quite have that ability to shrug off opponents.

Plough's Post Mortem
Due to the nature of the opening round loss to Carlton at the MCG, there will be no Plough’s Post-mortem this week. All the players and coaching staff were bitterly disappointed in the match and Terry Wallace deemed it inappropriate to be discussing the usual categories such as “unsung heroes”, “surprise packets” and “highlights”. Plough’s Post-mortem will return next week.

Possibly a fair call but I wasn't interested in hearing about unsung heroes or surprise packets, I wanted to hear about what went wrong in his opinion.

But anyway we move on to Rawlings Report and since it's a members only site in the past we've kept it that way except for little excerpts such as the following:
Jake King's game "Gathered plenty of possessions in his role down back, but had minimal influence on the contest. Needs to eliminate skill errors from his game," compared to giving praise to Rance, Polo, Nahas, Hislop and Collins.

Bemused to say the least, I hope whatever master plan Terry has cooking, and there must be one for King to come in, pays off or he'll be the turkey in the pot.

Cmon Tiges. :thumbsu:

Not surprising and to be honest it would probably only frustrate more if there was one. It was fairly obvious what went wrong ... we were shithouse.

What was TW gonna say, "the boys were listless, selfish and did not display any facets of football that would make winning possible? 4 years in and the first round performance looks like one from a few years back. My plan is failing ...."

Best to focus on this week. As you said PHX, Go Tiges.
