Stumbled across this article: 'Tigers consider four changes for clash with Geelong'

SOURCE: http://www.realfooty.com.au/news/rf...sh-with-geelong/2009/03/30/1238261514075.html

RICHMOND is expected to take a punt on two debutants in Saturday's clash against Geelong at Skilled Stadium and make at least four changes to the side that was humiliated by Carlton last Thursday night.

And former Western Bulldogs defender Jordan McMahon will come under heavy scrutiny in the coming days as Terry Wallace looks to wield the axe upon at least one member of the errant backline that failed dismally against the Blues.

Alex Rance is likely to play, along with former Bomber Tom Hislop, who came to the Tigers at the end of last season via the national draft. Dean Polo, whose 2008 season never recovered from a damaging shoulder injury, could also return to the senior side.

Wallace and his entire match committee spent last Saturday afternoon watching Coburg, the team's VFL affiliate, take on the Northern Bullants. Rance, 20, the son of former West Australian star Murray, came to the club last year but could not make the senior team, and Hislop — who played seven games in two seasons at Essendon — both starred along with Polo. With first-gamer Andrew Browne expected to return to the VFL this weekend, Wallace also scrutinised the performances of Adam Pattison and Angus Graham. Both put in solid performances in the ruck with Graham the more likely starter against Geelong given Pattison's lack of match fitness.

Would be happy to see those new blokes get a go, bit dissapointed Connors and Coughlan are out of the question though but understand due to lack of match fitness. Collins unlucky and as people have mentioned, Thomson must be carrying an injury else he would be looked at.

Out: McMahon, Cousins, Raines, Browne, Edwards
In: Rance, Polo, Thomson, Hislop, Graham

Scratching my head over someones comment to drop McGuane, agree with Bojangles, thought was at least serviceable!

Out: Raines, Cousins, Schulz, McMahon, Edwards, Jackson

In: Rance, Thomson, Post, Collins, Connors, Polo

Now I'd change the structure of the 22. Something like this.

Tambling---Moore---Thursfield
Newman--McGuane--Deledio
Thomson---Brown---Richardson
Morton---Riewoldt---Connors
Bowden----Post----White
Simmonds---Foley----Tuck

Browne---Rance---Collins---Polo

This side has a reasonable balance of skills, experience and big bodies. We need far better kicks of the ball coming out of defense, so Deledio goes in, and Tambling is an improvement on Raines. Post should be given a shot at FF, Schulz is never going to be the answer and the kid has a big body and can take a grab. White provides some defensive forward pressure where none existed last night. Connors provides another class avenue to goal. Rance should be played as a HB/Wingman with some limited KP defense time. Polo and Thomson come in to provide some much needed toughness.

That's about as good as we can get it I feel. Still won't be anywhere near good enough to beat Geelong.

Like your thoughts as one of problems was getting the ball into the forward 50. couple of changes to this though. Conners is injured so would leave Jackson in and put him on the wing and put thompson into centre and put brown back hff. would also leave shultz at this stage. The forward line did not get much chance and if you look at the stats when we did go in we scored a high % of the time. i dont think collins is strong enough yet and would rather see king or hislop in the pocket with white comming off the bench. The thing that will count most though will be our ability to apply pressure and control the ball, if we play the way we did it won't matter who we pick.

Based on the reports in this mornings papers I would have the following line up:

B: Newman Moore Rance
HB: Polo McGuane White
C: Jackson Deledio Richo
HF: Hislop Riewoldt Tambling
F: Morton Schulz Brown
R: Simmonds Tuck Foley
I: Graham Nahas Thursfield Bowden

Outs: Cousins Raines (Inj) McMahon Edwards Browne
Ins: Graham Nahas Hislop Polo Rance.

That's the team which should have ran out in Round 1, except Cousins would have taken Hislops spot. I'd prefer to see Thomson instead of Hislop this week though. We need a midfielder to replace Cousins. Hislop reminds me of a lesser version of Raines and I was happy to see Raines out. Polo may need to play some midfield which will bring Tambo into defence where he belongs imo. Tambo is the perfect match up for Stokes

Like this side but I would give Browne one more chance - can't be any worse and might make Angus take a good hard look at himself

Hi,does anyone know who we gave up for McMahon?

Pretty sure it was Callan Ward as like a second round draft pick, not 100% sure though so don't quote me on that one.

IN: Rance, Thomson, Vickery (get him to 50 games quickly he'll build a bigger body and begin to dominate), Graham
OUT: Cousins , Raines both injured, Mcmahon, Edwards (still needs time will be good, still too little for now.

BRAYDO!!!! HOW ARE YA BUDDY!!! P.S Rance is complete dud he wont play.

Connors is available however he missed a large chunk of the preseason with an achilles and broken hand. He didn't play Coburgh ones on the weekend. Saw him sitting in the stands but am not sure if he played twos. Won't get a call up after not playing ones.

my reviewed side.

FB: Moore....Thursfield....Newman
HB: Rance....McGuane.....Polo
C: White....Tuck.....Richardson
HF: Tambling...Riewoldt...Brown
FF: Morton...Shulz...Nahas
Fol: Simmonds, Deledio, Foley
Inter: Browne, Hislop, Bowden, Jackson

Emergencies: Collins, Graham, Edwards

Ok well ill go with the changes that are out : raines, cousins, mcmahon, edwards and browne**

In: Rance, Polo, Nahas and eiether Hislop or King, and then id play pattison straight up, hes a better prospect around the ground then browne or graham, he is clean with his hands and generaly pretty okay with disposal.

And my line up/set up would be

Moore, Thursfield, Polo
Bowden McGaune, Newman
Richo, Tuck, White
Brown, Riewoltd, Morton
Tambling, Schulz, Nahas
Simmonds, Deledio, Foley
Int: Rance, Jackson, Hislop/King, Pattison/Browne

Keep in mind that
Cotchin
Pettifer
Coughlan
Polak
Johnson
Hughes
Connors
Raines
Cousins
Thompson
Pattison

are all eiether injured or coming back from injury and lack match fitness, and i reckon all of those could could be a walk up start to that side bar thompson, hughes and raines. Thats a lot of good players injured , we have had a bad run leading into the season

In: King,Polo,Rance,Graham,Post,Coughlan(if hes not on injury list)
Out: Mcmahon,Bowden,Tambling,Riewoldt,Cousins,Raines

Everybody Should take a look at richo hes 34 and hes the best player we have that gives 110% every game.if everybody would play like him we wud win games =)

Moment of truth at 6pm ;)

If I see Mcmahon in the team tonight in favour of Polo then Terry has truly lost the plot. Will be interested if he has learnt anything. I'd be pretty happy with Rance, Polo and Nahas coming in, but I think there'll be more

that is two ruckmen into the side, so 4 in the team in what is likely to be wet conditions:o.

Re: Moment of truth at 6pm ;)

:thumbsd: Gus has zero upside to him.

I'm not getting started on Graham again, it's just simply how I think the team will be named due to the following factor.

Browne doesn't have a Sam Jacobs matchup this weekend, the cat ruckmen are far more mobile which means Gus is more suited.

I agree but Gus mobile.. are you serious? That muscle-bound fumbling dud. Better of playing Vickery if you want agility around the ground. Both would get smashed in the ruck by the Cats anyways.
