In: Howe
Out: Oxley

Ox is not up to scratch. Costly turnovers last week, doesn't offer much. Obvious replacement of Howe. We have missed Howe badly. If Murray is good to play he comes in for murphy. But I'd have apples ahead of both if he's fit for finals.
Just need to win, talk of resting players is nonsense. We need to lock in our top 4 spot.

It would be great if we had the luxury of a top 4 spot already sewn up so we could look to rest a Cox for McLarty or a Hoskin-Elliott for Fasolo but we don't and after overcoming a lot of hurdles to reach our present position I don't want us to stumble at the final hurdle now because we've allowed a second of hubris to enter our frame of minds.

So unless we believe we could derive some benefit playing McLarty for a single game in case he's required come September (which would appear unlikely) I expect the changes will be dictated on whoever we see as our best 22 come finals week 1 of those presently available.

Outs from:Oxley/Murphy
Ins from:Howe/Murray

Imagine melts if he plays and ends up with a fractured leg.

That exact line crossed my mind as I was typing :).......hence why I qualified it a bit with "if he's right to play". If he has any signs that indicate that he's at risk of anything like a fracture this week and that a rest would make a big difference then yes......I would rest him.

Given our situation I am not leaning towards a rest just as a precaution if everything looks/feels okay.

Realistically it could go badly wrong either way.

Momentum and form will be beneficial come finals. We should not be resting anyone unless they are injured

When does McLarty front the VFL tribunal?
Normally Tuesday I think
Here's the MagpieBat post from another thread: Good(ish) news!
Sam McLarty – Collingwood VFL

AFL Victoria’s Match Review Panel charged player McLarty for tripping Frankston player Lachlan Gill-Renouf during the fourth quarter of the VFL Round 20 match between Collingwood and Frankston on Sunday 19th August at Victoria Park.

Based on the available video evidence, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with low impact and body contact. The incident was classified as a $600 fine (AFL listed) and a Reprimand. An early guilty plea enables the player to accept a Reprimand.

No we cannot rest our gun players especially if their is a change we can get top 2! We must beat freo esaily and then rely Brisbane to def West Coast which is a possibility! If we lose we could go down to 5th! Hawthorn or Sydney will go above us as well as Melbourne with their huge percentage or gws willl go top 4! We are not in a position to be resting players we must win. If we win we will more then likely finish 3rd and play west coast

Murphy was nice. Real nice. Classy.
Out Oxley (stiff) in Howe.
Fasolo is lurking... But who could we possibly drop? Maybe DeGoey to rest those sore leg bones?

I'm absolutely clinging on to the thought that we can finish 2nd. From there we might go a very long way! West Coast will probably beat Brisbane, but if the Lions are 'up for the occasion' they should be a real chance. If we lose against Fremantle we can drop as far as 6th. If Sydney win, but Hawthorn's % doesn't drop too much and ours drops below theirs both of those teams would go above us, as would the winner of Melbourne vs. GWS. So we do need to win!

At least if we do finish in 5th or 6th spot we will be playing in Melbourne, there's no threat of playing Sydney or GWS in Sydney. But top 4 and a double chance is obviously what we're looking for, even if it means playing in Perth in the first week of the finals. We've already exceeded my expectations for this season, if we could play a couple of finals (even if we lost them both) it would have to be of great benefit to what is now a rather young, inexperienced side.

I know people are worried but we played without degoey for a few weeks and managed to do well. We have a good solid cohesive team that plays for each other. If one or two players could do with an extra week off then we need to consider it. However, that would be risky should we win on sat and also win our qualifying final. That would mean some players would have played one game in over a month. That’s not good.

I agree to a fair extent with what you are saying, but it's interesting to compare our record this season when De Goey has/hasn't played. When he's played we've won 13 and lost 3. When he hasn't played we've won 1 and lost 4. The win was by a modest 24 points against Carlton. Those 4 losses were all against top 8 teams, and we did go close in a couple of them.

Perhaps those basic figures don't tell the whole story, but he's obviously a vital player for us and our chances of winning are far greater if he is playing. If there is a lot of doubt about his fitness then I could understand them not playing him this week, but if he's near enough to 100% I think we have to play him. We just can't afford to take chances with this week's game, because we could easily blow the double chance if we're not going flat out.
