Changes For Round 23

If Appleby was available I'd say him in over Oxley, but he'll probably be forced into the VFL given he's missed a few weeks.

I'd like to see Appleby back sooner rather than later, my opinion is that he's got a lot to offer, but I think it's been nearly 2 months since he was injured. I hope he can work through the VFL and make a finals appearance.

Considering Howe has played 158 games without a final, they are taking the cautious approach to ensure that he gets there. No point risking him this week.

I don't think there should be any changes, however, Murray was out for "personal reasons" so I think Murphy out and Murray in.

Murphy should stay in the team ahead of Murray,he is a lot steadier under pressure than Murray I like Murray,s speed and it is a weapon but Murphy has a calmness about him.

and Not a Turn Over Merchant that Murray can be

Would rather see oxley out for murray. Seems logical as we have been giving our debutants a few weeks in the system each stint

Oxley is not exchangeable for Murray. Murray is not tall enough for this role. If there is an exchange, it will have to be for Murphy.

Murphy's wasnt a planned debut. Giving him a second crack because thats what we have done all year is not a valid reason. If he stays it will be because they think he can do a better job than Murray or Oxley. At this stage Murray is still the incumbent.

Oxley is really filling in for Howe so probably plays this week.

In Murray out Murphy or
No change

is my call.

Assuming WHE and JDG are 100%.

I wouldnt say he played poorly either and he did provide just as good of a defensive option as Oxley. Being allot younger, i would doubt they would drop him before oxley. One of the two will definetely come out for Howe, possible Murray as well.
I doubt we would see any more changes for finals bar the comback of trealoar

Would be surprised if they have a session tomorrow given that their media showed them doing heavy training yesterday and they're scheduled to do training at Optus on Friday.
They leave for Perth tomorrow be hard to see them have a session in the morning then fly out and then train again friday.

At the start of the season, if I was told we would have Stephenson, Murphy, Sier, Madgen, Mayne, Mihocek and Oxley playing in round 23, I would assume we were in tank mode.

Yet here we are, playing all these guys for a top 4 spot. No matter what happens for the remainder of the season, it's been a huge success. That said, I really expect to win a final or 2. Outside of Richmond, I will go into any finals game confident we can get the job done.

No changes this week. Hopefully bring Howe and Treloar back for our first final.

+1 re: Murphy. He kicked well, was cool under pressure and didn't seem to put much of a foot wrong IMO.

14 disposals, 4 rebound 50s, 1 inside 50, 2 tackles, 71.4% DE and 81% game time.

Nice debut in finals-like footy.

Point taken, but we did bring in Murphy for Murray, not the same either!
So maybe Murray comes in for Oxley but Murphy does Oxley role?

When I flew to Sydney for the game up there a couple weeks ago, we flew on the friday (and when I say WE, I happened to see them all at the airport, abeit different flights) the training session was that afternoon.
They usually fly over the day previous, except a couple do fly out Thurs evening.

Thurs is their main session. They train twice a week even if they have a interstate game and then have their stateside session there as well. I don't see for any change. They'll prob fly to Perth in the morning Friday.

I would be confident vs anyone. Our brand stacks up its whether we suffer injuries on the day or not imo.

If Appleby is close to an injury return he is a legitimate option for finals. I agree he likely comes through the VFL. But if his form is good he could well come straight in for Murphy/Murray.

Nobody should take this game as a given. Our wins this year have been built on extreme commitment, and anything short of that and we will lose. Our backline is so undermanned that any slackness upfield will see them under too much pressure to hold the opposition out.
Secondly, Freo have a lot to prove. last week cries out for redemption, and their players must respond.
Thirdly, a number of very good players are back, and some are providing their swan song. They will be very hard to beat, especially at home.

Main session tomorrow morning, some will fly over tomorrow afternoon, everyone else Friday morning. At least that's how it generally works.
Yup. Usually Pendles, Cox and a couple others go Thurs night, but the rest of everyone, including coaches go the day before the game. I was surprised when I saw everyone just standing near the gate while they were waiting for the flight to Sydney. It was nice to chat to a couple of them.
