IN: Karnezis, Harwood, Maguire, Paparone.
OUT: Polec, Yeo, Golby, McKeever.

Paparone! I like the idea of seeing him and Mayes on the field to get games into them (then fast forward three years when they are key players in the team and stars of the comp)

I will be surprised if Paparone gets a start this week, maybe next though.

Out: Yeo, Polec, Mckeever

Backline:
Harwood needs to come in for Yeo. Our small’s defenders have been leaking goals in the past three weeks. Bulldogs game was an example where Gia, Murphy and Dalhouse ran rings around our defence. Yeo needs a rest and Harwood has been dominating in the reserves in the past few weeks. Thomas is the only small forward in North’s forward line that could kick a bag. I consider Docherty coming in, but does not have enough experience to shut down a quality forward like Thomas.

Merrett has the most important job in shutting down Petrie. Petrie regularly kicks bags of goals and is an excellent contested mark. If he does not mark the ball he brings the ball to ground level, giving guys like Thomas an opportunity to capitalise.

Hopefully if Maguire is fit, he would come in for McKeever. Maguire will play on Tarrant, due to fact Tarrant kicked a bag of goals against the Swans.

Adcock needs to have a captain’s game and Golby needs to improve on his defence side of his game.

Patfull will play on Hansen and be the third tall that would come in to help out Merrett and Maguire or McKeever (if select). Hansen is a great contested mark but is a poor set shot for goal outside the 30 metre mark range.

Midfield:
Mayes was really impressive for his first game in the seniors. Needs many games fed into him this year as possible to fast track his development by playing him on the wing or the half forward role. Hopefully gets nominated for the rising star this week.

Hanley needs to play on the wing and push forward to score goals. Can really hurt the opposition by foot. Needs a permanent role in the midfield.

Rich had a good game but needs to shake tags against good teams. This will only come with experience and learning from guys like Black.

Rockliff is our inform midfielder and always stands up at the right time.

Karnezis has to come in for Polec. Was named in the best for the reserves. Hopefully plays a full game through the midfield and resting up forward. No Green Vest Vossy!!!

Redden was good after a slow start and should be prime against North after a great preseason.

Moloney had a good game and helped to easy the work load of our young midfield. Hard to believe this guy was running around in Melbourne’s VFL side last year. Credit due to the recruiters. WINNING!!!

Leuenberger had a good the game. Great to see him pushing forward and kicking a goal.

Forwardline:
Polkinghorne is lucky to be in the team due to injuries to Beams and Polec. He will tag the opposition best attacking defender.

Brown had his regular typical Captains game and got the Lions 4 points. I hope the club is working on that Post Brown ERA.

Zorko needs to lift. I hope he plays in the forward line because he applies enormous pressure and he plays his best footy there while rotating through the midfield.

Bewick has been down on form lately. Needs to play further up the ground and get his hands on the ball and build his confidence in order to have more of an impact on the game.

Surprised Martin was subbed out so early after he kicked a goal. Hope he stays in the team this week, love watching his 2nd and 3rd efforts.

Green was good this week with two goals. Just needs help applying pressure to the opposition’s back line.

Sub:
McGrath has had two poor games as a veteran senior player. The only reason I had him in the team is because of his experience.

with maguire still more then likely NOT ready Keevs will have to play back, with the roos tall foward line. So the idea of having some one like paparone come in as another tall marking foward makes sense, and from what I have read his ressies form has been promising.

Golby the one for mind who makes way for harwood, as a defender he has to realise Defend 1st.. attack 2nd. he Seems to have been caught out several time this year, I have no doubt he will make it as a AFL player BUT some time in the ressises could help him at the moment.

Its possible the coaching staff has told him to strap on Drummonds boots and play the role he did for us...And that hes going to far into the attacking aspect.
Really, Hanley is the correct replacement for Drummo, but hes just to lethal when we play him further up the field. We know he can rebound better then most in the competition right now, and his goal sense for someone who barely knew AFL is incredible. If he doesnt make AA this year, something is crazy.

Only forced changes for me.
Yeah, Voss rarely makes unforced changes to a winning side, except to bring back a regular. Especially when there is likely to be at least one forced change.

Bartlett might be a chance, but beams isnt even on the LTI list yet, so I think the back half of the season is his best chance, especially if he can keep up his good form. He still just needs minutes under his belt, no real need to rush him into seniors. Harwood would be a chance after being named as emergency last week. Any ins usually come from the emergency list.

If Doc can have a good game today he may get the nod due to his leg speed- North are fairly fleet footed and he may be useful. Whilst we don't want to be swapping and changing too much, we do need to also be getting games into Doc and Harwood as well as Golby and Yeo. The benefit of increasing depth is only useful if poor performers are dropped when reserves players are doing well.

I like those changes.

We must continue to give the fringe players every incentive to keep playing well in the seconds, ie, that they will be considered for senior selection. Conversely we need to send a message to the senior players that one bad game could mean a return to the seconds.

We need to keep the pressure up at both ends. It can only go well for the team if they maintain that policy.

Tarrant and Hansen aren't particularly threatening, Petrie is extremely inconsistent. Nonetheless, we NEED to play three talls in defence. Voss doesn't seem to want to play three KPDs with Maguire out, but i think it's really playing with fire- see Lester vs Jenkins. Lester did well, but you can't bank on guys to win mismatches consistently. Also, I wasn't a fan of Yeo vs May on the weekend.

Makes you wonder why Clarke was upgraded and then they go short one week (Lester) and promote McKeever the next, albeit to play predominantly forward. No suggestion Clarke was even close to selection which I find perplexing given we are clearly too short down back without Maguire.

Yeah that's my feeling as well.

They're both players that you'd be confident of containing if you have a reasonable matchup, but could easily kick four or five if they get on top of their opponents. We shouldn't muck around with those two like we did with Jenkins.

+1
Is he fit?
If so, i'd have no problem with playing him on Tarrant this week. Petrie and Thomas may be the only real threats in the North fwd line, but we can't just write off the rest and rely on mismatches.

What I would like to see:

In's: Callum B, PattyK, Docherty, Harwood
Out's: Polkinhorne, Polec(if injured), Yeo, Ash Mcgrath

Out: Polec (inj), McGrath
In: Bartlett, Docherty

I think Barltett could have a real Zorko 2012 like impact, with Docherty adding some dash and long rebound kicking to the team. McGrath just looks done for me, and I think the chance to get a youngster to have a breakout season in his place is just cant be passed up now

I also would like Mckeever out...He is just looking like a tall Colm Begley. I thought Lestor was a bit stiff losing his place. Lets get Patful back to the Dale Morris type role, and have lestor play the 3rd defender role

North very tall though.

Expect Daw to come in this week for Hanson and with Tarrant and Petrie that would be quite a bit of height for Patfull and Lester to handle. McKeever was pretty solid down back on the weekend.

I am expecting one or two changes this week. Maybe blood a few next week against the Demons.

Agree - happy for him to travel down for the Kanga game but had been holding my breath that Mckeever wasn't going to be sighted by the MRP - all clear, same also for both Zorko and Redden... Yea!

4 changes is an awful lot, particularly if only one is injury enforced.

I know. Probably just tired of us playing crap footy. I get a feeling that Yeo is playing with some injury. Ash's time is up. Polkinhorne should be playing in ressies. I just about had enough of him. He is taking a valuable spot which, if we have to play this bad could at least be used to blood a youngster. Play Docherty in same role as Polka and I can bet he will have a better game almost every bloody time.

In: One of Docherty/Harwood.
Out: Polec (inj.)

Keep the changes minimal. We looked to be finding our feet in a few areas last week. Mckeever can go back if necessary.

Biggest issue is North's talls. I like Mckeever up forward but unless we want to drop someone for Maguire I'd see him having to shift back this week.

How tall is Tarrant, I know Lester gave a bit away to jenkins but jenkins was both taller and quite a bit stronger. I don't see Tarrant as as big a body, I would have thought Lester could deal with him if Maguire is not fit.

NO lester is not tall enough or big enough.........J Clarke or Mckeever need to play back this week.

Time to give Clarke a run at Fullback. North are very tall. We will need his defensive pressure and height this week and I have horror memories of McKeever v Reid of the Swans last year.. Yeo needs some relief from the relentless pressure and responsibility of half back. I'd like move him up to a wing and watch him go! Harwood will be more watchful and physical in that role. Karni a straight swap for Polec. My thoughts on Polkinghorne are no different to the vocal majority.
Out Mckeever, Polec,Polkinghorne
In Karnezis,Harwood,Clarke

Patful Clarke Adcock --- A couple of old heads alongside the newbie

Harwood Merrett Golby

Yeo Rich Hanley--- Plenty of run on the wings

Karnezis Brown Mayes --- Creative options outside the master

Green Martin Bewick --- Bewie to stay at home and lead up

Leuie Moloney Zorko ---

Rockliff Redden Raines Mcgrath (sub)
