Only if Masten starts and plays in the centre square for most of the game while staying on the ground for 70% of the game. Otherwise we are doing him more harm than good.

I strongly agree with this. He was nowhere to be seen in the game. Is it better for him to get no ball rather than having a decent crack in the middle in the WAFL?

In the meantime, bring in Swift!! :D:D:D

Brown was ok.Quite clean with the ball. The worst thing is;every time we got flogged last year and starting again this year the same names get trotted out;fletcher, nikoski, hansen etc.Is it time to bite the bullet and offload some of these older under performing players?? But lets be fair lynch is lazy @ fairly soft for his size.He never gets a rocket.Lecras is lazy but never gets a rocket [2 or 3 goals a game keeps the critics quiet].Emberly needs to go back to WAFL to learn to get a kick.We need to toughen up and it needs to start with the senior players.

Memo to Wooshdog.:thumbsu:

I think its time to throw Shannon Hurn into the middle.

He is looking super fit and has had a pretty good start to the season. With his pace and hurt factor, he should benefit from Kerr getting the no.1 tag.
From midway through the third he started most centre contests in there. In fact in one we had Cox, Lynch, Hurn and I think Kerr

Do you honestly think Swift is better physically prepared to play AFL than Masten?

I'd bring in Jmac tbh. He will be able to play 4 quarters and work his balls off in each. He might not have the same level of class, but he gets lots of the ball, goes in hard and can play out 4 quarters. Masten's output drops significantly after half-time.
Leave masten and swift in the WAFL until they have an AFL standard fitness base, and only bring them back in if they warrant selection with a 4 quarter effort for their repective WAFL clubs.
In the meantime, play Jmac, schofield, spangher etc.

There seems to be a conflict seemingly between the theories of 'blood the kids' and 'pick the best team to win games'. In 4 weeks time, having played 2 top tier and 2 bottom tier clubs, we should relatively know how the season will pan out. If we look competitive and are playing some good football, then by all means, pick the best team regardless of blooding youth, if we are 1-6 or 2-5 and look abysmal, the we should think about getting swift, naitanui etc in there, but until we have a good idea, we should be putting our best team on the park, which for me does not, at this present time include masten or swift.

J Mac in I agree :thumbsu:.

Kennedy is almost a must now. Especially with lynch dong his better work out of the centre/wing at the moment. McKinley isn't quite back to where he was last year, but he was playing out of the goalsquare a fair bit, a role which seemed to suit him. Get him back there with LeCras, and get Kennedy to the mobile CHF role. He can even help out in the ruck occassionally if required.

I dont think we can continue to play Ebert and Masten in the same side in the roles they are playing at the moment. Hurn in the centre I agree :thumbsu:. Maybe even Lecras having a short run through there would be beneficial. Despite what has been said here, he does work hard, and he has a hard, at the footy approach.

BYE BYE FLETCHER - you're done.

I dont know what to think about Hunter - the guy is on railways tracks, cant turn properly and is a weird kick.

Same with Hansen but at least Hansen keeps presenting and he was on a pretty good player in Sam Fisher.

Have to bring in Kennedy this week - surely!

At least Kennedy is happy to smash some packs and get himself in and under and get the bard ball. A lot of our guys seem weak.

The way I see it at the moment, he's likely to have more impact even if he spends less time on ground. I know last year we were forced due to injuries, but we threw Masten in. Masten still can't muscle out of a tackle and didn't find much ball. So YES!! SWIFT~!!!!:D:D:D

... Seems like he still doesnt think he belongs out there. seems scared.

no, that's not it, it's actually the opposite: check the silver boots n'all.

I think it's come too easy for Masten and he's just front running.

as another poster said, he should be in the WAFL gettign form and fitness to justify selection at AFL level.

in the meantime play JMac - his disposal isn't always great but he competes over 4 qtrs.

aside from that rant, Embley's form was shocking, bring in Staker for him; bring in almost anyone for Fletcher (Wirra maybe).

My main concern is getting Wirra back in the team, and getting fletcher the f*** out!
I reckon we need to go tall against the doggies especially if lynch and hurn are going to bomb the ball into our forward line.

I would like:
In: Wirra, Kennedy
Out: Mckinley, Fletcher

So, anyway, I was away camping for the weekend - how did we go?

Great! Fletcher had a high possession game and easily converted from directly infront of goal. Knives are out however because we don't want to unveil our weapons until finals time.

Yep, I thought he looked impressive. But with the game was going I didnt expect him to make an impact. I think he should start in the middle against the Bulldogs instead of putting him there later.

In: Kennedy , Wirra
Out: Hansen, Davis

Game plan that involved a defensive midfield zone might work at Subi but we now know it won't work at Telstra Dome.
That extra half a kick makes all the difference. The Saints just went over the top of the zone or just powered through it ,and the Eagles had no alternative plan . By then it was all over and the team fell apart. Also their defensive pressure whilst in the zone was enormous. Very impressive Saints.
The new coaches will learn
from this.

This Shaun Higgins kid looks bloody good!

Reminds me of a young Benny Cousins.

Gotta watch him closely next Sunday whoever is on him... probably Bones or Nico.

higgins=gun. I have an awful feeling that Stenglein will try and run with him... yuk.

The way that hurn is using the pill at the moment, could he do a Luke Hodge sweeping role?

The defensive/rolling zone will work better against the Dogs at Subi, and if we can get long quick ball into Kennedy, McKinley, Lecras we are a serious chance. Gilbee will rebound, and their forward line is awesome when on. Tough ask, but do-able.

Bring in Kennedy, Staker, and Jmac (doubt he'll come in though).

Whoever gets dropped gets dropped.

May need to do what St Kilda did last year and drop Dal Santo becacause he was out of form and put him back into the VFL to show that he isn't permanent 22.

By Dal Santo I mean someone like McKinley, Nicoski, and Hunter.

We will need a defensive half forward to match up on gilbee. Selwood maybe?
stenglien played as a defensive half forward on drummond agenst brisbane a couple of weeks ago and i think woosha will go 2 him 2 tag gilbee. i dont think stenglien will b able 2 curb his influence though. Selwood i wuld say will tag griffen.

My changes:

In: Wirra (if fit)
Out: Many to choose from

If Wirra don't come in then go in unchanged.

The fact is that team that went out on Saturday was damn near our strongest team. Throwing (semi) proven players out for 1st year rookies is just plain stupid at this stage of the season. Plenty of time to blood the rookies if it goes pear shaped later on in the season.

Ahhhhhhhh, I thought I'd take at least 48 hrs before adding to the round 3 Saint Ethad inquisition.

Well considering we are playing the Dogs next Sunday in the late game I would think one of Brown or MacKenzie wouldn't be needed against the smaller faster Bulldogs backline.

We seriously missed a FF with physical presence so Kennedy would be in the calculations for sure.

If Cox is travelling ok fitness wise we could againt go in with Lynch as the second ruck and rotate with Hansen and Cox.

McKinely simply can't get the ball, he is chasing hard but he just can't seem to get into the game.

Bones had a shocker, if he is 100% fit I'd play him, he would seriously want to atone for that game.

Out: Fletcher, Masten, Nicoski, Brown

In: S Selwood, Kennedy, Wirra, Schofield
