Changes for Round 4

Out - Robinson / Garlett / Kreuzer (rest)

In - Scotland / Fisher / Hampson

I'd love to drop Russell but the MC will never do it.
Need a tough experienced outfit against the Swannies.

Thought this game will give the "youngsters" a nice bit of experience. They were all reasonable, but went missing for parts of the game, whether that is because they were on the bench i am not sure, but still some good signs from them. Simple fact of the matter is we kicked points, when we should have kicked goals - obvious huh?

I don't think stevens is suited for the sweeper role - i am not sure he is a good enough mark under pressure for that role. I also think garlett needs to become a bit more selfish - it seems that some times he is trying to give it to a more senior player instead of taking the game on himself - uinderstandable because he is young.

Thornton needs to stop whining and cut out the stupid free kicks - sure it was a crap decision - the bumping happens everywhere, but to do it with the umpire a metre away, c'mon.'

Loving the Krueze more and more. Still periods of the game when we looked a bit soft - when we have a crack, we look awesome. Anyway still early days and a few hard losses may put even more steel into the team.

oh yeah, for me

In: Scotland
Out: Garlett

This was a game against a team that will finish bottom 6, regardless of the poor goalkicking etc, in the last quarter we were disappointing and l am sure come late in the season this will be one that should not have been lost.

Garlett simply does not do enough, needs more development then there a host players that probably have just done enough, depending on whether
any players stand up today.
The backline is also a major concern without Jamison.
Yarran, Scotland, O'Alphin will be closely watched today.

Went along last night and kept a close eye on Chris Johnson. Was towelled by Monfries and lost his feet at critical times. 2/10, capped by his 'kick out' in the last quarter when he handballed it to himself. How do you lot rate him after a month?
Quite simply,

He's been good.

His rebound and good footskills out of defence have been very handy for us.

Last night was probably the worst night to judge him, given that it was his poorest game - but given that you're a Melbourne fan, you'd already have an opinion formed of CJ.

Even if the MC or coach love Russel, surely they would know now that the best thing they could do for the kid is drop him.

Garlett tries hard, but it was shown last night he needs a confidence booster and rest in the 2's, spirit can only take you so far, thus we should probably play him in 2 game bursts until he's physically ready.

How I wish Warnock/Hampson were ready... Jacobs and Kreuzer great job but Jacobs gets unsettled when he gives away a free for ruck infringements and then he changes the way he rucks.

Simpson, pathetic! The commentatots on Thursday were talking about how the Geelong players know each others strengths, Mooney takes a mark 45m out on the right boundary and knows his team-mate streaming past is a left footer... passes ball... goal. So note to Cloke - Simpson can't kick a goal on the run to save himself!

Hadley/Gibbs/Murphy/Stevens - were all below their best. Stevens I will give a very slight benefit of the doubt as it was his first game for the season (heartless player). The other 3 I will suspect was just one of those days for them all at the same time, and so wont be repeated.

For mine:

Out: Russell, Simpson, Garlett, Joseph
In: Yarran, Armfield, Scotland, Browne

i tend to agree with a lot of the posters on here, that we dont need to hit the panic button, but I do think we need to make some minor changes

i would bring in O'aHalpin to match up will Hall. Thornton cant do it. He tries his best, and has done so for years, but is just not that kind of player. i would leave out russell for him

i think Johnson should go as well. he wasnt great last night, and i see him more as a depth player for when others are out. bring in bannister for him as another defender

and finally i would probably put garlett down into the 2's. he was looking a little tired against the lions, and was really down last night. he is young though and will get better. bring in scotland for him

otherwise i think we show faith in the group. there were defo a few players below the best, but give them the chance to redeem themselves. simpson had a shocker, but he deserves some faith, and the chief, well who would you swap him with? fisher? he would just do the same thing to us. better to stick with him and see if he can fix it up.

i bet we will see a much better showing against the swans, with hadley, gibbs, stevo and murphy out to prove a point..........

out: Garlett, Russel
In : Scotland, Bannister

Garlett is underdone, he looked ok in a well playing side but was found out last night. Russell is much the same, everyone says he's 'classy' when the team plays well, but he will never impose himself on a game, and he is starting to become a turnover specialist. Seriously Johnson has done more thngs that Russell in 3 games, and he's not even that good!

Credit to Houla who kicked a goal when we needed it. Our backline is still leaky, and credit to Essendon but they smashed our forward defensive pressure tactic last night, every time it came into our forward 50 it too easily popped straight back out through the corridor and into Lloyd or Lucas's hands for a goal, the same bloody trick every year for the past 5 years against the Bummers and we still haven't learnt. sure those two guys are still Essendon's lynchpins, but we still haven't been able to stymie their influence, and heavens to betsy we overcome Barry Hall next week! In comparison we popped it to deep pockets so Fevola had to kick from 85 degree angles. The need to improve that.

Simmo has been terrible this year and is it just me or has he dropped a bit on his pace and intensity? He needs a rocket in his backside.

OUT! Jacobs, puts to much pressure on his team mates and I can tell why he dosen't kick the ball, hopeless
Russel, Is hopeless looked lost with the ball and his man Lovett killed us with the run
Gartlett, biggest squib in our team, but he skinny and he was no where near the ball all night
Stevens, was hopeless downhill skier, when Walls was saying that he was un fit I was shocked to hear that but I reckon hes right
Robinson,Needs a rest got lost in the play

Tell me if I'm in correct yell at me or what ever.

Just off the hook - Bower(couple of bad games against bigger blokes) and Hadley(just one bad game)

IN!
Hammer, plays well today shall get in the side
Scotland, dropped and Stevens did shit in his role
Yarran, plays well should be in
Armfield, Russels shit he has no idea
Carrazo or O'keffe, Carrots if hes fit or otherwise give the young lad a go

You guys really think JR and Stevens will be dropped? You have to be kidding, for some ****ed up reason the MC love him and as for our great heartless VC he will never get dropped. How about Simmo? How many shots on goal does he miss? For someone playing the role of a goal kicking wingman/outside receiver he sure kicks a lot more points than goals.

I see your point and I agree with majority of it, but missing a set shot from 15m out does not sit well with me. This was not the first time he has done it either. Look back at the other 2 games he's played and count how many easy set shots he's missed.

Great sticky hands, courage that never ends - but kicking for goal is shocking.

this is why he plays further up the ground.

maybe fev should get dropped because of his kicking...

In: Bannister (big body defender and tough player to play on O'Keefe) Scotland Yarran
Out: Garlett Russell Johnson.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

except I would also out Stevens, but there won't be much support for that.

Stevens was playing HBF and didn't man up, Carlton needs to show were the real deal.

pretty good goal he hot at the end there...bit of a floater, but got 6 points.

Hes was to slow, at one stage I saw Essendon on the wing running it down him lumbering after them than see the next contest on Essendons HFF with Hiller and Ryder on Thorton. He handballed to Murphy who was directly infront of him with a man on him and only got 13 HO playing against Ryder in the ruck. But yes I am a Hammer fan

Equal high scorer of the night with 31 points - yes he kicked more behinds than goals - but did NOT miss a 15m set shot at goal. For a pro AFL athlete to miss those should be punished - at least I was in junior footy.

Yes !!! :thumbsu:

Finally you have seen the light.
JR was poor last night and Grigg was underdone, but Ratten should have played Jordy on Stanton after he did a job on Johnstone.

Talk about about feeding Russell to the wolves by playing him on Lovett.

Poor coaching from Ratten who will learn from that.

Disappointing to see Russell throw his arms out and call for the ball again after he passed off to Bower who had no options up the ground.

Bower couldn't have seen Russell and passed it back to him if he was Gibbs.

Out-
Garlett- just not having a big enough impact.
Russel- How long will we persist with him? He is simply not up to it
In-
Scotland- Sydney have many mature bodies and Scotland fits the bill to combat those bigger types.
Yarren- Depending on his game today might be worth swapping him in the side with Garlett, another forward goal kicking option won’t hurt. Speedy and might catch the older Swans out.
So I would swap Garlett for Yarren and Russel for Scotland.
