I really hope RD has just taken this info from his question to Simmo last night where he reeled off a list of players including Cripps and Simmo said they're all in the picture.

Cripps must test out that pec in the twos. Go lay double figure tackles in the Magoo's Jamie, and then we'll consider recalling you.

Not a fan of this at all.

Quite surprised at the anti Kelly brigade. He's been magnificent when on the park for us this year, other than a bad second half vs North which is possibly due to COVID recovery. A week in the WAFL would be a waste.

Could make a stronger case for Cripps coming back through the WAFL or even another week for Yeo.

As long as the overall effort isn’t lost it seems like a no brainer for most of them, the mids especially. Harsh on the blokes that have given everything, but the midfield needs an injection of top tier AFL quality, even moreso with the loss of Nic. Cripps is probably the one that needs to earn his spot back, but Yeo, Kelly, Cripps, SPS, Shuey for our 5 worst is a hell of an upgrade.

We desperately need to get some consistent games into our midfield group. They’ve barely played together at all since we acquired Kelly. No expectations on the season so just get some games into the entire group and see if they can find some much needed chemistry

Agree. Seems to be some real hatred for him on this board. He's clearly in our top 3 mids and its not like he's at retirement age. Pointless to make him "earn" his spot back unless he needs to find some touch but he didn't play that long ago.

Assuming Rhino is on the money, I'm expecting us to run out of legs halfway through the 3rd.
Really shouldn't be bringing so many guys back at once - didn't turn out so great last year!
Plus need to reward the guys who put in great effort last week, not just go for the names on paper #credits

Anyway, probably see something like this:

BWilliams for NN (knee)
Shuey for LEdwards (groin)
Kelly for Nelson (omit)
Yeo for West (unlucky)
Cripps for JK (rest)
SPS for Hough (to sub)

FB: Hurn Barrass Witherden
HB: Foley McGovern Duggan
C: SPS Yeo Naish
HF: Rioli Darling Cripps
FF: Ryan Waterman Jones
R: Williams Shuey Kelly
I: Dixon Redden Langdon XON
E: Hough Rotham Nelson HEdwards

Agree, he was awesome in the first quarter, maybe first half against Roos. But then he disappeared. I think he needs to build some match fitness with a game or 2 in WAFL before coming back in. We cant afford to have a player who cant run out 4 quarters, even one as good as Kelly.

If (and I have no idea on this) Williams and Dixon are fwd/rucks and Strnadica is a #1 ruck, then at 24 he potentially is the long-term-answer unless Jamieson comes on significantly.

He's not a 30yo washed up former ruckman who has had injury issues etc - he's still quite young in relation to AFL rucks. He may not make it, but his age profile is about right to be a potential future #1 ruck.

Strnadica could be a long term option, he’s only 24.

I rate his tapwork, kicking and marking all above BB Bailey.

He just needs to be given a chance.

Isn't he only 23 years old? If he is better than Bailey he could potentially be a ten-year player for us.

I wasn't referring to his age, but rather that he's not a first choice ruckman and not likely to ever be.

We've got folks wanting to use an early draft pick on a developing ruckman, meanwhile Williams is on our list and we don't want to see if he can cut it. Seems a wasted opportunity with NN down if we don't give the yuff a shot.

Cripps should take a week or two in WAFL

SPS, Kelly, Yeo and Shuey should be coming straight in, provided they are fit.

They all upgrades for West, Edwards (inj), Waterman and Nelson.

Guys like XON, Dixon, Naish, Foley, Hough are the new guys who are busting their gut and deserve an extended spell. I would be annoyed if any of them were dropped.

Obviously it looks like Williams is coming in for NicNat.

Rotham is good as sub.

So if Ryan Daniels is on the money, aside from one of Williams or Strnadica replacing Nic we have :

Shuey for Edwards (inj) - no issue with this. Shuey has been out under covid protocols not injured so should be right to go

Yeo for Hough - move Nelson down back and Yeo into Nelson’s midfield spot. Maybe those two could rotate off half back to help ease Yeo back. Could retain Hough and drop Nelson as an alternative.

Kelly for West - West’s endeavour was great but he lacks polish and had the least impact of the mids against Collingwood. Kelly is an upgrade and a substantial one at that

Cripps for Waterman - Waterman hasn’t been in great form and was quiet against Collingwood. Cripps will bring additional forward half pressure that we’ve lacked

SPS for Jones/Langdon - don’t like either of these two choices and Langdon just had one of, if not his best, game for the club so it’s Jones who had a quieter game and looked a little banged up. Exxon is the other option but that would be incredibly harsh on him

Now each of those changes individually look reasonable. They all are an improvement to the side and in the fullness of time would be inevitable. But this is my concern and why I posted earlier the ins are dumb-

Whilst individually the changes are fine, collectively it’s too much at once. We saw last year the danger of bringing in so many underdone players in one hit and Simpson himself has said we erred do n hindsight

We’ve also seen the struggles Darling has had regaining touch without any preseason/WAFL games under his belt. It’s foolish to think Cripps in particular would be any different

I’d only be bringing one of Kelly or Yeo into the side this week which would save one of Hough or West. Cripps should be playing at least one game in the WAFL meaning SPS would replace Waterman with Jones and Langdon keeping their spots

All this assumes no injuries we don’t know about and that JK and Rioli (who looked sore in the news) can get up after a 6 day break

Part of the reason we beat Collingwood was the ability of our midfield to run out the game stronger. Let’s not risk the opposite by bringing in too many players lacking fitness/match hardness no matter how good the names are

He's easily a walk up start when fit. People are just pissed because of how much we paid for him in the trade.

Also currently on the Eagles longest playing streak

Yep - Foley on 6

Next best is McGovern, Hurn and NAISH on 4 - the only other players to have played every game this season

Straight in:
Shuey, Kelly, SPS, Williams

Out: Edwards, Naitanui, Jones, West (unlucky with MIDS available - perhaps good chance to get polish up disposal & confidence in WAFL)

Through WAFL:
Cripps, Yeo & Strndica (another wk & more minutes) & Allen should build through WAFL too when ready IMO.

In: Williams, Kelly, Shuey/Yeo, SPS
Out: NicNat (needs to take better care of himself apparently), Ledwards (groin), Waterman, Nelson

Backs: Barrass, Gov, Hurn, Witherden, Duggan, Foley, Hough
Mids: Kelly, Redden, Naish, West, O’Neill, Shuey or Yeo
Rucks: Williams, Dixon
Forwards: Kennedy, Darling, Ryan, Rioli, Langdon, Jones, SPS
Sub: Nelson
Emergencies: Waterman, Hedwards, Petruccelle

Don’t bring all the mids in at once, that’s a recipe for disaster. Kelly’s probably right to go. Make a call on which of Shuey and Yeo is most ready and then give the other one a run in the WAFL. Along with Cripps.

Nelson drops down to sub, his ability to play multiple positions makes him an ideal sub.

Waterman misses out due to structure, Ryan can play as a third marking target and we can bring in an extra mid.

Waterman would then play for the Beagles Saturday along with Edwards, Rotham, Cripps, Petch, Strn, Winder, Jilliams, whichever star mid we’re managing, possibly Clark, possibly Nelson if he doesn’t get used. Happy times.
