I think people still haven't realised just how bad Darling has been in 2020.

Had he not kicked those 2 snags on the weekend, boy oh boy.. i think the Vic media would probably even start to notice.
Love Darling, but he should have never ever ever ever ever EVERRR gone to the hub.

Hopefully he returns to us in Perth.

Just have a dreadful feeling we’re going ro break Adelaide’s drought.

... like we broke the Suns’ drought. Although at least the Suns have shown some fight.

last year we barely beat Adelaide. We got lucky that Sloane went off injured. Otherwise we’d have lost.

Really worried about this game. The embarrassment would overpower the disappointment.

Have you seen the Crows play this year?

Even our most pitiful performance would be enough to beat them.

I may be in the minority, but i believe Branders future is as a half back. Possibly if he gets a bit bigger, a center half back.

Thats puts our future spine as potentially

Allen: FF
Waterman: CHF

Brander: CHB (possibly)
Barrass: Full Back

Could be worse. Whatever else is said though, Brander does not belong on a wing
Mickey Ablett had Brander as the best KPD in his draft year with Oscar as his best KPF.

Watching him over the last 2 years, I saw him playing better in defence.

In terms of developing a wingman, here is as novel idea.

If we want a winger, how about we start by drafting an outside midfielder! Novel approach.

XON is as close to an outside winger that might be close to trialling. Foley falls into the failed category with Ainsworth from what I have seen

I agree regarding the midfield mix, we were playing 1 extra mid all season.

However I think this was already rectified by bringing in waterman for brander last week.

When shuey went down Ah Chee moved into the middle to replace him for the rest of the game.

So i think bringing in a young mid for shuey should still keep us with the better balanced midfield (ah chee will go back forward).

Can also see the merit in bringing in jetta, however that would likely mean nelson/duggan goes into the middle.

Gaff went into the middle as well after Shuey was injured. Duggan to the wing.

Young agile KP defender being developed as the defensive wing man role that Masten played?

Its not hard to see what we are doing is it? It's pretty logical actually. People are sooking because the entire team have been playing crap and Brander is the new whipping boy as he is playing a low possession role.

Brander plays a kick and a half behind play, guards the space, intercepts defensively when he can (and has) and provides an outlet from defense as a marking option.

If the game plan is to persist with the defensive wing then I'm fine with Brander playing that role.

If we ditch that tactic and want a more attacking, running and pressure winger then Brander isn't that player.

If they leave Waterman out and bring in Brander, I’ll crack. Nothing against Brander, but he’s just... out of place (albeit improving weekly).

Last year’s final when we lost Rioli last minute - why did they bring in Petch ahead of Cameron as an emergency? Cameron wasn’t injured yet as was still playing WAFL.

At times, the match committee just appears not to want to win. Especially since the final stages of last year and all this year (till last week’s selection). Dropping Oscar Allen against Port Adelaide of all teams takes the cake.

No confidence till team selection announced. Shouldn’t be the case.

I also think we could learn a thing or two from Brisbane, who’ve done well to never rely on individuals.

They aren't leaving Waterman out cob, you can relax. The fans would riot.

I think our MC can be a bit too slow at times and tend to make dumb mistakes they really don't need to, before "learning" from them.

Blind Freddy could see Allen was better option to partner Naitanui than Hickey, and yet they went and made that dumb mistake and backflipped a week later.

Last year we carried Vardy for weeks and weeks and weeks hoping he would come good, longer than necessary, before eventually putting a line through him.

I think Petch is at the point now where he's been given enough chances to show improvement, and hasn't. Considering Cameron hardly did anything wrong, he's got to be the next cab off the ranks to come in for Jones. The only thing preventing that from happening would be his fitness.

My guess

IN : Brander, Cameron
OUT : Shuey, Jones

Brander just needs to tidy up his short - mid range kicking and he’ll be good for us. Jettas drop in DE combined with Branders nervous kicks going forward in the first few games hurt us. Last week we were clinical skill wise in our back half so id be loathe to change anything down back. Thinking this week it’ll likely be Brander and Cameron to come in for Shuey and Jones. We should win this week and if we’re up and about it should give Brander some needed confidence

I was a big fan of Duggan playing further up the ground last week and I think with our glut of small defenders it might finally be time to do away with that ultra defensive wing and go with two attacking options.

Hurn Barrass Nelson
Cole McGovern Sheppard
Gaff Kelly Duggan
Cripps Darling Waterman
Ryan Kennedy Cameron

Naitanui Yeo Sheed

Allen, Redden, Brander, Ah Chee

- Redden to play in the guts
- Persist with Brander as a wing rotation but allow him to spend some more time as a KPP to help him get into the game
- Jetta to play in the scrimmage this week with him as a hopeful inclusion for the Derby

This. So much this. We seem to have a mild obsession with taking kids that havent played as midfielders (particularly half back flankers) and trying to turn them into midfielders. Or, taking midfielders and trying to play them on the half forward flank. I look at our list and the lack of young quality mids coming through the ranks and developing in the seconds is a huge, huge worry.

It has to be our number 1 priority from next year (we gave away our first round pick this year to the cats):
-draft actual midfielders
-play them in the midfield
-develop young onball talent and desperately improve our young midfield depth

I didn't really consider him likely until Shuey mentioned his name this morning, but I wouldn't mind seeing Hammer Brayshaw come in. Looked good through the WAFL late last year. The knock on him is his speed, but we're facing a slow midfield this weekend.

If ever Simmo wanted to replicate that infectious energy of youth from last weekend, I think this would be how he does it. Hammer is one of those best Clubman types, loved by all, happy, fun bloke. Looked unlikely to get a shot with the likes of TK coming in. But a midfield opening has presented itself.

Should he get the nod he absolutely must be played in the guts though. We can't try to ease him in out of position. Do what we did with Ainsworth and start him at the first CBD.

"There was an eruption just before match sim started, so I think Simmo did announce who is playing but I can’t tell you who that is sorry."

Would suggest a debutant I would think. Reid or Brayshaw given that's who the article goes on to talk about.

Those six games have all been outside of WA, including games at the SCG and Kardinia Park where we haven’t won in a decade or more, Brisbane last year when we got jumped, then the first three hub games when we had 15-20 players who played poorly.

So I don’t know how much you can blame him for that record.
You’re 100% correct. He’s just the easy whipping boy at the moment. He’s doing fine for a tall guy that’s played 7 games in really tough conditions as you mentioned.

We need to pump games into him at the moment, but he’s clearly not ahead of JK or JD up forward and Barrass & Gov down back. But he’s fit enough to play That roaming Masto role which we obviously rate internally as being important to our setup.

The Brander at 25-50 games is going to be a completely different prospect. We just have to get him there, and hope that another club doesn’t take the spoils.
