I may be in the minority, but i believe Branders future is as a half back. Possibly if he gets a bit bigger, a center half back.

Thats puts our future spine as potentially

Allen: FF
Waterman: CHF

Brander: CHB (possibly)
Barrass: Full Back

Could be worse. Whatever else is said though, Brander does not belong on a wing

Not sure what you're seeing that I'm not. He is not physical in any way and that would be a major flaw if he's playing as a key defender.

Takes a good contested grab, I guess that might be what Wily is referring to. But if Brander is to play again, he needs to win back a spot.

I just don't see where Brander fits other than as a key forward, so unless we planning on trading Darling (or playing him in the midfield) or playing 4 key forwards once Kennedy retires then there just isn't a spot for him.

Brander should be trade bait at the end of the year. I still think he will be a good player but he is surplus for us. I was worried about Allen when we got him due to his height but he seems to have grown a bit and with Waterman and Williams to add to Darling we should be fine for forwards.

Its possible he could be a defender but Barrass and Gov wont be going anywhere for at least a couple of years. Third tall seems a bit of a waste.

While I get where you are coming from, a observation as an old timer, sometimes it take kids a bit longer to establish themselves in both a position and a team.

Cast your minds back to the young versions of Brad Shepard and Andrew Embley that we witnessed.
I thought both of them were major busts as players after they had played 25 games ... Branders has only played 7 games ( only 1 of which has been at home ).

Now he may end up being a bust but its a bit premature IMO to write him off just yet.

To me its obvious that he is lacking confidence in himself to believe that he is a genuine AFL player.
I do feel for him a touch, as his games prior to this season have all been games on the road against good sides in matches, thats lets be honest, we were not tipped to win.

Fast forward to 2020 he has played in one of the worst team starts to a season for a while, where he most certainly wasn't the only underachiever, in fact you could mount a good case that he had played better football than some of the senior Premiership players.

I am looking forward to Brander eventually playing at Optus in front of a 60,000 fanatical loud Eagles crowd, when we are doing our very best Flat Track Bullies number.

In short I want to see what he can produce ,when the senior play makers around him, are up and firing and working the new kid into the game.

As a Geelong boy he should have been part of the Kelly deal.

Out:Shuey(inj), Jones(inj)
In: Ainsworth, Cameron
Simple like for like types obviously lose out with Ainsworth for Shuey but Cameron and Jones are similar. Everyone else Xon, Foley etc is more of a gap plus Ainsworth was emergency against Swans.

You seriously would prefer Ainsworth in the team ahead of Jetta ?

I don't think he's a bust, I just think he's a key forward but Allen and Waterman are much better options than him for now. The problem is where to play him, because he's 100% not a wing.

I think part of that problem will fix itself in 2021 as I don't expect Kennedy to play on after this year and if thats the case, then Oscar slots straight into the FF position.
Leaving Snake to play as one half forward, Waterman will never be a genuine KPF, but that doesn't mean he cant pinch hit there, if needed from time to time.
Brander I agree is not a wingman, but he can play as a high roaming half forward.

He does have the potential do develop into a KPF, but thats going to take a few more years for him to hone his craft and build up his body.

The fly in the ointment for Brander going forward, is that Bailey Williams, being more physically mature, may leap frog him in the pecking order.
Williams also has the dual role treat to assist his inclusion in the team, as he is a genuine ruck option to cover for when NN warms the pine.
Williams is also a very handy KPP prospect in his own right.

I really don't like seeing Oscar playing in the ruck, as to me its fraught with danger, with the kid being smashed around and beaten up to an extent that it damages his body in the future.

So just where Brander eventually plays is going to an interesting and intriguing watch.
