Fair call the ruck isn't exactly a strength of the Saints, I think Martin will have McEvoy covered pretty comfortably.

That said maybe Gawn could do some real damage?

There's no way Newton will/should be dropped.

We need a ruck to give Martin a break and Dunn is out for being a ******.

Stop posting teams without Newton, aint gonna happen! :)

Mine:

OUT:
Garland, Dunn, Bail,

IN:
Rivers, Blease, McKenzie (or perhaps Evans)

FB: Bartram Rivers Warnock
B: Tapscott Frawley Davey
C: McKenzie Moloney Jones
F: Petterd Watts Newton
FF: Bennell Jurrah Maric
R: Martin Sylvia Gysberts
I: Wonaeamirri Blease Green Jetta (sub)

Wouldn't say Martin would have him covered from a tap perspective, but should do OK & definitely beat him around the ground for mobility & pace. Goldstein exposed our ruckman's loose marking of him by kicking a few goals floating forward & I've seen McEvoy take a grab forward before, something to be wary of.

In saying that, probably the weakest ruck opposition in coming weeks, if we ever had a chance to "ease" Gawn in of sorts, this is it.

Newton doesn't offer us anything apart from a reprieve in ruck duties if he is used as a second ruck syl, if he is in the team he should be in it as a forward... it's a waste if we are going to have him ruck as well

It's a very defensive or cautious coaching move IMO

If Newton was to play solely as a forward this week, I would have absolutely no problem with it

And Wonna has to be dropped, he just isn't fit enough and not offering enough in the forward pressure stakes

McEvoy has been good this year, one of the Saints few shining lights. I wouldn't be writing him off just yet.

Averaging about 15 disposals, 3 tackles and 20 hitouts a match isn't too bad. Kosi or whoever their backup is could def be exploited though.

Not writing him off, but he is one of the weaker #1 ruckman in the comp, in the bottom 4-5 for average hitouts, averaging more than 10 less per game than a Jamar or Goldstein.

Martin averages about 8.5 less per game than him, but has played only 1 game as the key ruckman, in which he had 21 against much tougher opposition. SME also averages just about more in every area except tackles.

We need to respect him, but if there was ever a game we could go into with some confidence in the ruck without Jamar, this is probably it.

Watched the video of Casey vs bendigo, Max Gawn looks pretty impressive, he will be one if the best ruckman in the comp in few years time, with Jamar out we must get him in the side, get him as much experience as we can before Jamar comes back, I am excited to see him

You could tell from the Casey highlights clip that Gawn will be one of the best ruckman in the comp one day?

@Chip you're right, and given the ruckmen to come in the following weeks it is his best shot. I just always thought McEvoy was no good and was quite surprised at his improvement thus year- dont think many non Saints fans have noticed. Kind of like Martin (so far), he has taken his chance with their number down and out (Gardiner).

Solid team.

I'd like to see Joel Mc for Garland, Bate for Dunn, McKenzie for Bail & Gawn for Bennell... Sub to be Ricky P who hasn't been setting the world on fire...

This allows us to combat St Kilda's height advantage, if needed Martin to go to Kosi if he starts to get on top of Warnock & Frawley to take on NR... All going well Martin & Gawn to rotate off the bench with Gawn to go to the goal square at times with Newton spending time on the bench...

Getting our hands on the ball 1st at centre clearances will be a major factor in us beating this mob, which Gawn will give us & we are not really losing anything by dropping Bennell, but you could also put Wona in place of Bennell...

I would also swap Tapscott & Jetta, give Tapscott a license to run & I'm sure Jetta would do the job on Milne...

Spot on post. Would love to see this. Agree with the post about leaving Newton forward to crash packs too.

Considering he is only 19, and with his height and weight, he has alot of potential, did some nice taps and looked pretty composed with the ball, still along way to go but with Jamar out we should give him as much experience as possible

I would of liked to make a few changes to send a message to the inconsistent performers namely Davey or players that don't work hard enough wona. But due to injuries and suspension to dunn we can't afford to make to many chnges.

There are some positive signs from the casey review with a few of our lesser likes playing some good footy.

Blease has really stepped up this year, in 12 months has gone from injured to playing very good VFL footy.

Evans, consistent all year. He will add some run, desperation and some grunt in close. Deserves a game this week, especially with the loss of bail and mckenzie needing more time at Casey by the sounds of it.

Howe, building up nicely BOG last week and kicking some goals. I'd like to see him play this week along with Evans, however Bate has been good all year and was unlucky to be dropped IMO.

One positive with these injuries to our ruckmen, it has meant Gawn is now No. 1 ruck for Casey which will help his development. By all reports was pretty good on the weekend.

Morton i think needs more time at Casey to work on physical side of his game as noted by Brad Gotch.

Changes (what i think);

Out; Dunn, Bail, Galrand
In; Bate, Blease, Rivers (Macdonald as plan B)

Changes (what i'd like);

Out; Dunn, Bail, Galrand, Wona
In; Howe, Blease, Evans, Rivers (Macdonald as plan B)

Fair enough- seems an unlikely source to make such a judgement from but goddamn I hope you're right :thumbsu:

Yeah I probably called it a bit early on being one of the best in the league in a few years based on one video, but he defiantly has potential to one day be our number one ruck one day, would like see him get a game or two before Jamar comes back, just see how he goes

Awesome.

In: McKenzie, Blease, Rivers :D

I reckon.

Gawwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

You would think so! Maybe Howe or Blease. Would love to see all 3 get there chance. Blease would be good against the Saints, as run and carry is the way to beat them. But I think we are more in need of a ruckman right now. Martin tired badly against the kangas, and Goldstein just dominated the second half...

It's Evans.

Patrick Keane from the AFL confirmed our list changes, Evans has replaced Spencer.

Does it mean he's getting a game this week though? I suppose he is a good replacement for Trengove while Jack is out. Evans has been solid all year for Casey as well. Big step up for him, but he will give it 110%, he's that sort of player.

McKenzie should come in for Bail, and possibly Rivers or MacDonald for Garland...

IN: Joel Macdonald, Jared Rivers, Matthew Bate, Jordie McKenzie, Michael Evans
OUT: Rohan Bail (knee), Austin Wonaeamirri (knee), Lynden Dunn (suspension), Colin Garland (ankle), Jamie Bennell

Welcome Michael Evans. I like it alot, really like the look at this kid and think hes been taking his opportunity as a rookie by the horns and I can see him giving it everything it has. Hope he adds some toughness.

I like MacDonald back in the side, I rate him, he's tough and something we have been lacking.

And welcome back to the tackling machine that is Jordie McKenzie.

YAY! Looking forward to this new team, hopefully they can gel together very quickly as a unit.

Didn't know Wona had a knee problem. Wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped. Shame he and Bennell are out for Indigenous round.

Not a lot of pace coming into the team. This worries me. Run and carry and pace through the middle generally troubles the saints. Will be interesting to see who is used as the sub this week. McKenzie maybe? He's only played 1 and a half games of footy this year! Evans also could be the man, but doubt Bailey would play him on debut as the sub.
