Changes for Showdown

One thing that really helped us last Showdown, was the utter mismatch of Ryder vs Jenkins as the chop out ruck battle.... I'm all for giving Sheriff Lobo a run in the twos but having him around might just be beneficial in the grand scheme of things this week.

It was also when Ryder was forward, Talia took him, which let Schulz off the leash, and we actually played them both deep and kicked to their leads. Along with Westhoff kicking 2, 10 between our 3 tall forwards is a big way toward a win.

He is averaging 32 hitouts, 6 tackles, 3.6 1%ers. These are basically the same numbers as last year. He's actually doing way better when you consider he has to share the ruck with Ryder now.

He's never exactly been Shane Mumford with his tackling or Nic Nat with his tap work, so I'm not sure what this other level there is that he can go to.

Only difference this year is that every time he is in the ruck we're wishing it was Ryder instead, because he is more than just a break even ruck tagger/defensive ruck.

Very selective use of stats. Look at his first 12-15 games last year before the grind of no help caught up with him, and compare them to the 11 games he has played so far this year. He is down in disposals, marks, clearances, tackles, contested possessions etc on those first 12 to 15 games last year.

Sometimes I can't believe what i read in these threads. "player x is not performing. He is useless. Can't run. Can't mark. Can't play football. He is useless and should be dropped for another fringe player who i will vilify in a couple of weeks".

Yet only 12 months ago we were doing spiritual dances at the feet of player x and were panicking when they were injured and unable to play (look back at the threads people). Perhaps give them a break. Great players don't turn from great into shit. It doesn't happen. There is a reason that can be rectified. I am sick of the shit being hung on Lobbe, Trengove, Jonas, Hartlett, Pittard and even Bob. I am sure i have missed some or many. All of these players have been phenomenal for us and I think may be injured, down on confidence and learning a new role.

I'm half expecting if Chad Wingard doesn't kick 3 goals and drag the team over the line singlehandedly then some will be asking for him to spend some time in the Maggies.

The Lobbe one still freaks me out because he was out at the beginning of the year and we were all panicking and putting every loss down to his absence Now it's pack your bags kid you're four fifths of useless.

I too panic at times but you know what stop and think about the player and ask yourself have they played a significant role for us in the past? If the answer is yes then chances are that with either a rest or game plan changes, they will again.

I would like Lobbe and Jonas to rest and get over their injuries (and we know Port will play them injured we saw Polec and White) and then return when they are ready welcolmed like the heroes that they are.

So shut up and trust Port. We are coming back. End of rant

Most of the posts I've read about Lobbe's poor form has put his form down to injury, and would like to see him rested so he can get back to his best. That's fair.

Got half way through that post and almost fell asleep.

Lobbe can't mark, can't dominate ruck, Can't hit a barn with a tap, but is a great tackler... So let's make him our no. 1 ruck

Crazy isn't it, carlile, hartlett, monfries, ebert, Jonas, schulz, westhoff, pittard, impey, are the most notable ones who were vilified this year some even suggesting up for trade. Guys like moore, young, Mitchell, s gray come in for them; the thread for changes in the next week oh bring back player x who was dropped. It's just a cycle that goes round and round similar to the butch cycle. I think all of us as supporters are extremely frustrated that this year is not going anywhere near to plan after a massive build up and thus we target senior experienced payers who don't necessarily wear the teams entire performance. Clear example is hartlett who everyone wants traded/dropped every week even though he's had good numbers and one of the leaders in our tackles, even more relevant is schulz who just because he doesn't kick 5 every week should be dropped for a player who is nowhere near dominating the reserves.

Back to the changes topic what are peoples general consensus on neade and stewart? Paul's last game was pretty quiet after playing well the week prior. Neade's inclusion allowed monfries to play higher up the ground - wing and become that link up between the arcs.

That is a far better physical reaction than i get when i read your posts

I didn't include those stats because they are essentially useless when we're talking about Lobbe. I can't remember a good Lobbe clearance, it's just numbers.

He's still getting 30+ hitouts and 6 tackles each week, it's just that other teams have done their homework on him and know he is going to tap the ball to the same spots each time.

My issue still with Lobbe are these, and I don't think he is going to improve on it. Cannot take a mark to save his life.

The play Harvey bandwagon has pulled in for a pit stop this week I see. Their concern about our forward structure hasn't extended far enough to get a ticket on the bring back Butcher bus however...

Weatherzone has Sunday 14 and sunny so fingers crossed its true. Was looking at the Showdown earlier this year
and although no Polec and White this time the emergence of Clurey AhChee Amon and more time into Krakouer we
should still have a strong squad. Interestingly Mitchell played a good game with back to back 4th Qtr goals to seal it.
If we play 4Qtrs(for the 1st time this yr:eek:) we should/could get the job done.
Interesting selection dilemmas, hope Ken and the panel get it right by using their heads and not their hearts.

Think Travis said they hadn't really put 4Qtrs together this year but anyway for mine
IN: Krak AhChee
OUT: Jonas Lobbe
SUB: Amon for his leg speed and elite kicking

Krak for Amon; and
Lobbe out, with Ryder to hold down the ruck duties..... freeing up a space for a tall (butcher anyone?)

I posted earlier that if Lobbe could not get up through injury then Harvey might come in for him.
However, with Harvey not playing for the Magpies last weekend, that just cannot happen.
I agree that Ryder will have to be supported by the usual suspects if Lobbe is not there......Westhoff, Jacko

AhChee a full game and TJ given a rest. Whether injured or not Jonas is struggling and its a Showdown after all.

Won't stop Ken from recalling Jonas likely at Clurey's expense despite the latter performing better than TJ has in each game he's played this season, it'll be just like Broady's 'omission' earlier in the year.

I'd make Jonas go back & dominate the SANFL for at least a fortnight before warranting a push for selection but our coaches don't tend to make the gold pass holders earn their spot.
