Changes for Showdown

AhChee a full game and TJ given a rest. Whether injured or not Jonas is struggling and its a Showdown after all.
I was wet, and cold, and a lot was happening, but pretty sure Jonas didn't play last week, so would be harsh to double drop him!

Jonas still 'assess' on the injury list. If he comes up, bring him back through the Maggies as he didn't have a game there last week. And he is not really in the same category as Broadbent, Broadbent was not delivering as much as he was capable of but was not as poor as Jonas has been. I was extremely surprised Broadbent was dropped before Jonas.
Assuming that Lobbe will not come up and Carlile will be given at least a few weeks to rehabilitate, I would bring in Butcher so there is a tall presence in the forwards with Schulz, a la Westhoff v Collingwood, to allow Westhoff to play up the ground where he does his best work and to allow Ryder to spend most of his time in the ruck.

Pittard unlikely to play after hurting his ankle yesterday. Krak surely to come in?

You would certainly think he'll get a good chance. Not sure who else you could put in place of Jasper, unless they moved Impey further down back and then brought up Colquhoun instead.

Think Impey will be playing further down back regardless. Ideal match up for Charlie Cameron.

Definitely has to be Krak in for Jasper imo.

The Imp needs to play on Betts.

If Impey is playing further back, AND Krakouer comes back in, we could be way too back heavy given we will have the following players in the team:

Hombsch
Trengove
Clurey
Krakouer
Impey
Stewart
Broadbent
O'Shea

For me, that's 1 too many. Not sure I would play Stewart this week. Would rather a midfielder instead.

No idea who will go on Betts. He's taken us to the cleaners the past 18 months. Our best bet might be to play with a permanent +1 zoning Betts off.

Darcy Byrne-Jones plays almost identical to Pittard(Minus the experience and less brain fades)

I like DBJ but he certainly didn't earn an AFL debut at the Parade last week.

Maybe I'm being a tad harsh ;), but going by what I have seen this year ( live and on the teev ) both Byrne-Jones and Russell should be more concerned about staying on the list than getting a gig in the showdown.

DBJ would be a chance of avoiding the cut, but it would have to be a very thin draft for Russell to survive a 3rd year on the rookie list.

I think DJB has some pretty smart moves and good skills and I think there is some upside in his game to excel and possibly make AFL, so I think he's safe and is worth persisting. Russell is not woeful as some may say. He checks his opponent quite well and doesn't tend to waste his disposals, pretty clean by hand and foot but unfortunately you can't stay on the rookie list and odds are that he hasn't developed enough to get elevated. He has made a small improvement though. I still believe he would have benefitted from playing sanfl reserves last year to get some more touches, the rules could have delayed his development. He had the late start as well.

I don't know what the big deal is with only having a max of 2 years on the rookie list.

This is the backline we've always rolled with for the last 2 years with depth switched in for our best 22 defenders/"gold passes".

Stewart has the flexibility to play mid and forward if need be. Pretty sure he played forward against the swannies so he isn't confined to the backline
Krakouer similar, swung forward against the blues and has the nous through kicking 2 in the swans game again not confined to the backline
Impey has shown glimpses of playing wing and running through the middle. Has had a habit of trying to lift us in the last quarter namely in the swans and blues games by using his leg speed through the middle. He's not an out and out midfielder but he can play more outside rather than an inside clearance mid.

These players aren't as one dimensional as everyone thinks. We can also swing trengove forward or play him as second ruck if lobbe goes out, Broadbent moved as an inside middle or o'shea to the wings. Make krak sub etc etc etc The possibilities are endless

DBJ needs to get rid of that flopsy muppet hairdo before selection consideration

:D come on ... Fos' hair was described similar to that in his days as well, mentioned in the book Dynasty I think. Somewhere I've seen a photograph of Fos running with the ball in hand with his hair flopping around that looks like DJB's hair. When I watch DJB's hair flopping around I think of this nostalgic photograph.
