Changes for Showdown

Agree, something is up - I can't see who we could bring up to replace him though?

His centre work hasn't been bad at all, it's his around the ground work which has been disappointing.

Do we keep playing him through injury just because we don't really have anyone to replace him? I'm not sure we should. Especially considering having Ryder 1st ruck with a Trengove/Westhoff chop out isn't that bad of a back up plan.

Agree his tap work hasn't been bad. Everything else though has been a dumpster fire

Lobbe needs to be a running MARKING machine NOT a tackling machine.
Its like saying Schulzy has great defensive pressure on our HB line so all good
Sure. I would be happy if Lobbe could mark.

I like the tackling pressure he provides, not many rucks can do it as well - he reminds me of the ex Bulldog Ben Hudson.

We don't need Lobbe to be a marking machine, I'd be happy with 'average' as long as he kept up his tackling pressure.

Frampton appears to have great intensity in the SANFL, reminds me of Brogan - not sure he is ready though? Redden is still getting his chops back and won't add any value until 2016. I think the only choices we would have is as you highlighted but does that bugger our structures up elsewhere? if Hoff can play like he did on Thursday for the rest of the year, he'll be a nightmare matchup for opposition coaches.

6 contested marks for the season for a guy of that height...?

Lobbe's palming is poor. Ryder at least gets 50% of his hitouts to a team mate.
Lobbe was practising pre game with the foam bag - the bag won!!! Seriously, cannot tap to advantage in a fit, and can't mark against 180cm smalls most times. Hands are like concrete - no feel, ball hits the palms and bounces straight out.
Love his tank, his endeavour and his tenacity, but not enough genuine ability as a big man.

And Redden getting pantsed by fatty-boombah Baulderstone yesterday :(
Ryder/Hoff/Jacko may be the way to go in future as our ruck combo......

as compared to Hombsch whom has the stickiest hands I've seen in a long time, he is a one grab mark under pressure or not.

Its embarrassing.

Lobbe ain't right but he's never been a marking big man what he was doing last year outside of his ruck work was being very competitive at ground level almost like giant mid.

as he sprints away from the stoppage

Great courageous committed effort from the boys v the Pies. But the determination, whilst thrillingly typical Port Adelaide, masked a lot of deficiencies still.
The Wobbles were far more fluent and organised in their movement and transition, so that is where we need to make inroads BIG TIME if we are going to win more than we lose.

And a number of Jonas type poor performers were at it again.
I speak of Hammer, Brad and Jay (albeit I couldn't question Jay's endeavour, and he set up a couple of goals with his efforts and savvy tap-ons - just that his body will not allow him to gain separation from quicker defenders any more).

Not a lot we didn't know already from the bad loss to the Legs in the magoo's. Maybe another midfield runner in.
Ah Chee a full game and Karlos to sub bench the only other change I would contemplate the Club would make, even though a couple more should be dropped, maybe a Show Down is not the place to experiment - maybe the week after.

i have a few players im critical of.
Butcher - this one dont really matter cos he dont play
Monfries - i know he defends well, but i want goals and goa assists
lobbe - i know he had a strong eyear last year, but that was him at his peak. cant keep that up, i just dont think he is good enough. Ive said it 1000x over...imagine if we had nic nat feeding our mids, im certain we would be top 4 now. yep weve played poory, but a top quality ruckman would be giving us 5x times more chances to get that pass right, then the confidence builds and boom.

west coast have been blessed with rucks for a long time. they currently have 3 that i would take over Lobbe. Sinclair, nic nat and lycett. Surely its time for lycett to see that he wont be a no.1 ruckman there ever barring injuries. so come home and he can have the no. 1 role?

Signed a 4 year deal last August knowing Cox would retire and that we were hunting him all last year an he was in demand. He was better than Sinclair last year but this year he hasnt been good enough, although has had a couple of injuries.

Lycett is always going to stuck behind Nic Nat now. Signing that four year deal maybe not looking so great an idea.

Would be hard to get him out of west coast now. They will want to extract value , we wouldn't want to over pay. Lycett looks alright , but hasn't really proven himself as a number one leading ruck either so you wouldn't want to over pay.

Our best bet would be if Bennell and coniglio both nominated west coast at the end of year. West coast would be hard pressed to find picks to satisfy both clubs.

I'd give Carlile the rest of his career off personally. Whether its injury, lack of effort, lack of mobiliy, hes never been reliable enough to play such an important position.

Austin is another Hombsch, get him in.

That's harsh mate. He is more than serviceable and we more than cover for his lack of speed.

If Lobbe doesn't play who will be the designated finger pointer? You know what happens if Lobbe is left out ... Ryder strains his groin 5 minutes into the game and Jacobs has 140 hit outs and 25 possessions around the ground.

I thought Harvey might be a sneaky chance until I heard Ken say Lobbe should be right with a 10 day break. He has no intention of dropping Lobbe. Harvey not playing today pretty much seals that deal.

I reckon O'Shea is a silly chance to line up on Betts.
That would be a silly chance. Impey for mine.

I'd also like to see Clurey stay in the side, played well against Collingwood. Bobby is good defender though and I think some are understating his value to our club. O'Shea MUST stay in the side. He's so reliable, just doesn't get beaten and actually plays better at AFL level than he ever does at Sanfl level.
Krak hurts the oppo better with his possessions more than anyone outside the current 22. But he's omitting himself by not following the team rules/structures. It can't be a fitness thing with Krak, it's July, it's all mindset for him. He has to increase his desire to want to work hard all game and not 'save' himself during the game.

I think the weather will have a say on who is picked.

My only out is Amon, his performance was just ok and he didn't go hard enough.

In for me would be Young.

Youngs disposal was terrible against Norwood. I'd much rather debut someone than play Young.

Agree re Redden. Look forward to seeing him in 2016.

Yeah I know but I think you need to stop Betts from marking the ball as much as his ground level trickery. O'Shea spent some time on the Collingwood small forwards and they were pretty much a non-factor. Jonas has gone to Betts a few times and has done alright on him with his physicality. No guarantees about Jonas being back but O'Shea could do the same job. Hombsch, Trengove and Clurey go to Walker, Jenkins and Lynch.

And I like Impey being able to push up the ground a bit and give us some of the run we've lost with Polec and White being out.

Redden was ok I thought.

Agree to a point but I think Impey needs another crack on Betts. O'shea will play his part for sure..especially with his intercept marking and dropping back when required.

I can't wait watch the replay, I must been watching a different number 17 than some on here.

Nah I'm with you. Looked composed - did a good job.

It's probably more likely that they will both spend time on Betts. Likely O'shea loose/in the hole and Impey a little closer checking.
