Changes for the 3rd Ashes Test

Depending on the pitch, I'd be happy to leave Lyon out for this one game and play a fourth quick. People will call me biased but I'd go NCN ahead of Faulkner and Dougie because his extra pace and bounce may worry the already fragile Poms.

I wouldn't be concerned if we went in unChang'd though.

Would be happy either way if we went in unchanged or Faukner for Lyon.
Leaning towards bringing Faulkner in to be honest.
Strengthens our batting and don't think we lose much at all with the ball.
The fact that he's a left armer which the poms have an issue with (see series against the Kiwi's) works to his advantage.

Would be more than happy to go in unchanged, but if they want to bring in a fourth paceman and roll the dice on Smith if we need a spin option (which we most likely will), I guess that's fine too. Think Lyon has done enough to be retained even on a pace-friendly deck though. Still, pace has rattled them so if we bring in another genuine option (I'd argue for NCN in conditions he knows, plus I think he'll extract more from it than Faulks, isn't as good a bat as Faulks but isn't bad either) then as long as Lyon comes back for the MCG I'm okay with it.

For England it'll be interesting. I'd bring in Finn for the WACA, just have to roll the dice at this stage. I'm not convinced by Stokes but the extra bowling might be handy; he wasn't bad but I don't think he's a test #6 at the moment, especially with their line-up not looking great on the batting front. Would still consider giving Ballance a crack if I was them.

England should drop Swann for Finn and keep Monty.

Faulkner would have to be a chance to come in. Far better bat and would challenge the poms brittle batting. Watson also has to be borderline, if he fails again and we wrap it up id like to see a fresh face given a go.

FFS. Yes, just like we should have rested Johnson for Adelaide, let's drop Lyon. Never mind that he has taken crucial wickets in both tests so far. It's bouncy! Play a fifth seamer! There is no way the Poms will learn to cope with pace...

Faulkner has a FC bowling average of 23 and took 6 for 98 in his one Test. I don't see an issue with picking him as a fourth quick on a bouncy deck. Faulkner, Johnson, Harris and Siddle would be the best tail ever. Lyon would be very stiff to be left out, but that doesn't mean the option shouldn't be on the table.

Very tempting. The other one NCN really bangs it in at the WACA and could cause major problems.

Be beaut if Lyon could hold up one end, while the other 3 come steaming in, but he whizzes through his overs so quickly, it may backfire.

Reckon the Poms would have put in a mass order for Depends anyway.

Lyon had a fairly poor test, but if his Gabba results are anything to go by, he does well on a pitch with bounce. Given the form of the three fast bowlers, I don't really see the need to change.

In general, I really don't see the advantage that a fourth fast bowler provides. The gold standard for this sort of lineup, against England in 10/11, had two fast bowlers take 18 of the twenty wickets. The fourth option was superfluous.

England are cooked. Their batting lineup is rattled, and their bowlers are finding Aussie conditions pretty hard to adjust to.

Having said that, I wouldnt be surprised if they dropped both Swann and Panesar for the Perth test. You need four quicks, and Root could probably bowl some part time spinners if need be. Prior is terribly out of form though and they cant possibly go in with three all rounders otherwise their batting will be exposed again. They have gotta throw Ballance in and see what happens. I'd go something like:

Cook
Carberry
Root
Pietersen
Bell
Ballance
Prior
Broad
Bresnan
Finn
Anderson

In: Finn, Bresnan, Ballance
Out: Swann, Panesar, Stokes

Lyon stays in IMO.

The only change I could see happening is Harris for NCN purely due to Harris' body and the short break. Depends how he pulls up. If there's any doubt or soreness in the knee, NCN should play.

No change. Would love to see Coulter-Nile debut but a spinner is always handy and the current 3 quicks should get the job done (assuming no resting/injury).

Looking forward to seeing West Coast and Freo fans joining forces to boo a collective evil.

Forgive the ignorance but why has Chadd Sayers not been taken out along with NCN and Bollinger ?? Best seam bowler of the past 18 months, is it due to the perceived lack of pace ??

We've got to back Lyon, he hardly comes across as a confident bloke, we can't drop him everytime he has an average game; let him develop and build.

Saying that, if the pitch is a rocket and we're confident that Smith/Warner can handle the spinning duties, then horses for courses might be justified - but don't drop him.
