They tour here for ODIs/T20s, we owe them back. That's apparently how the FTP works, according to Sutherland. NZ and CA wanted to revive the Chappell-Hadlee series, so that's why those games are crammed in there.
Big Bash, and few ODIs'll be great prep for India tour.

If Callum Ferguson is dumped, that's bloody rubbish. You can't give a guy one test to prove himself when the whole team screwed up.

People seem pretty happy to dump Mennie after one Test, and he performed better in his role than Ferguson did.

I don't get this notion of a player being "too young" or "not ready yet". If he's good enough then he's good enough and the only way to find out is to actually test him. I would have no issue with us picking a team with 3-4 debutants if they were quality and/or had potential. If renshaw is in form pick him. If dean is in form pick him. Handscomb needs to be in. And whoever else is a plausible chance due to form. Not picking a bloke because he's too young is such a shit excuse in my book. If you want the team to be stable you have to go with young players, he's doing well at shield level and he's 20, he must be bloody decent.

In comes Handscomb, surely.

One worry was Ian Healy this morning on SEN said Handscomb has a 'quirky technique' and we don't want to repeat the mistakes of England back in the '90's of producing Test batsmen who's techniques weren't solid enough to combat quality bowling.

I lived in the UK in the early to mid '90's and used to watch a bit of county and elite schoolboy cricket and frankly some of the batting stances were frankly frightening.

I'd watch these schoolboys from posh schools, who presumably had elite coaches, face up with the raised bat technique with it waving around in the air and their feet moving around all over the place. I think part of English resurgence is that have returned to some old school coaching with batsmen having a nice solid, still and relaxed stance at the crease (still a bit of bat waving going on!!).

I haven't seen enough of him but how 'quirky' is Handscombs batting ??

Ian Healy is talking out of his arse, as usual. The only thing "quirky" about Handscomb's technique is his high back lift. Yes, he can be edgy early but in reality that's not uncommon in Aussie batsmen

Yeah he does have a slightly unorthodox stance but like many who have commented after you, I'm not sure Ian Healy should be passing judgement on stances as his was horrific.
There have also been some pretty fair batsman in the past with interesting stances so I'm a bit unsure how this really relates to performance.
Interestingly, Healy also made the following comments this morning:
Healy - "I think Ricky should coach the national side for nothing"
SEN - "Would you do that Ian?"
Healy - "No, I have a job"

Bloke is a moron

Wade and Nevill are both ordinary somewhat limited batsman.
Don't think a change is required

Agreed. If only Whitman went on with it yesterday. He's been in an annoying slump this season (like the whole WA team)

Ed Cowan has gone with

Warner
Burns (Marsh)
Khawaja
Smith
Patterson
Handscomb
Nevill
Bird
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

That 4 from burns must have been world class, in the same class as rob Quiney's famous 9!

Seriously, why not give Dean or Renshaw a go!

You seen him play spin?
Yes. He's not a great wicket keeper, but the fact is, he's got a FC average of near on 40 as a keeper. Anybody who does that is far from an ordinary bat.
