The last four.

Smarsh has developed his game, people need to let go of their preconceived ideas. He was dropped after scoring 182 because he was the injury replacement, whoever replaces him will make way when he is fit.
We are going to have to agree to disagree. If Renshaw gets picked, l reckon they will give him the Pakistan series as well. S.Marsh, if available, will drop down to no.5/6.

I just can't see why people would want Dean in. Yes he got a good score (20 or so more runs than Renshaw), but l heard that it was a bit of a flat track. Before the game he couldn't buy a run, why would we reward someone for 1 good innings. We need consistency
My concern with Dean is he didn't step up in the September Aust A games (although he did bat at #3 in the first match behind Bancroft/Burns), but Renshaw hasn't played a lot of recent first class cricket (this is his first one since Aus A in July) and Bancroft/Burns aren't in good recent form.

That's definitely an option if Ferguson (who I think will play) doesn't perform. If both Renshaw and Ferguson score, Renshaw would certainly go as the 'last in, first out' policy. As I said before, Marsh made 182 replacing Khawaja and was dropped for the next Test.

Marcus Harris has a 1st class average of 31.. test team? Yeah no.
Travis Dean has a 1st class average of 35.. same again.
I understand this is a Victorian AFL based website but let's be realistic.

Handscomb deserves to play and perhaps Wade should be considered given Nevills form but that's it. There are more talented players playing elsewhere.

Thats true about Renshaw, but he already is batting in test match mode with his grinding innins of 100. He was playing ODD before these matches and going alright but then suffered a knee injury. No idea what the injury was.

The selectors will do whatever they want, they make the rules up as they go. Tho only thing is, l just can't see the selectors getting rid of a 20 year old player after 1 match, what does that say? No matter how well you do, you aren't playing next game. On the other hand Ferguson is 30 something years old, all this talk about the veterans not working etc. etc.

To me it says you are an injury replacement and are in the frame for the future; communicated well, that's not a problem.

Ferguson failing would make the argument academic.

I can see your point and I agree, but if Marsh is injured outside of promoting Khawaja what choice do we have? Burns has shown he's not up to it currently as an opener and Bancroft is badly out of form and not much better stats wise. For mine it's a toss of the coin between Dean and Renshaw.

After this round of the shield:

Dean: 16 FC matches ~ ave 39 ~ 4x 50s, 4x 100s
Harris: 45 FC matches ~ ave 32 ~ 9x 50s, 5x 100s
Renshaw: 12 FC matches ~ ave 44 ~ 3x 50s, 3x 100s
Bancroft: 44 FC matches ~ ave 36 ~ 9x 50s, 7x 100s

If you are referring to my post, which I guess you are, I clearly said I'm not saying he should get a game. I said it's great young guys are leading the runs this year.

As for Dean, his average is not 35. It's actually almost identical to Callum Ferguson and he's just 12 months into his career.

So if going from those matches
Marsh/Renshaw
Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Handscomb
White/Kurtis Patterson (Ferguson may just get lucky here)
Nevill
Meanie (was rested so you would think hes locked in)
Starc
Haze
Lyon (no spinner really stood up so I suspect the stick with approach will be taken)

Another failure for Ferguson. I know he's only had one game, but I wouldn't pick him, give Patterson and Handscomb a go in the middle order and watch them shine.
Would be harsh to drop him after one game (I wouldn't) but the double failure is definitely worrying.

5 scores of <10 in a row now. Did make a ton in the innings before that but still.

That's exactly the same as Burns and I think it's very likely he'll be dropped.
Reckon Burns could be more likely to be dropped just because he's had an opportunities prior to this. Also he's young so he's likely to get another shot at some point. Ferguson will probably only have this chance to "make it" so they may be more inclined to be a bit more lenient (if giving him a mere 2 tests could be considered lenient).

Probably. I doubt he'll be dropped but I do believe there are better options out there and I think they'll take his spot eventually anyway.
