Renshaw would be my choice over Dean.

I hope Marcus Harris stays consistent.
Dean has the Shield final century that puts him in front of Renshaw. The pressure of a shield final is as close as a shield player will get to a test match, and he stood up. Renshaws good though. Its a positive to be in this position, 2 young guns.

If it really came down to that, which it won't, play Faulkner, at least he has some sort of x factor, and a bit of mongrel in him. Marsh has neither.

Marsh more likely to take test poles than Faulkner IMO

Is it too late to try and groom Handscomb into a Keeper/Batsman
I know he takes the gloves for the Stars with mixed results.

As much as I am a fan of Lyon and defend him on here, the fact that he hasn't taken a wicket so far in the shield game shows how out of form he really is. O'Keefe (whilst I dont think is International standard) seems to be the next in line, so i'd give him a shot

Handscombe a must, and loving the look of Renshaw. I don't mind the idea of putting a 20yr old into the side with massive upside. Especially one that can bat long periods. Dean is another to be considered as he's proven he can make big scores. These are the blokes we need to be looking at. Guys that can score big scores, not 60s, 70s, 80s, but tons, and big ones at that.

One of the great myths of Australian cricket.

He's the best spinner in the country.
Until I see him do it at International level, he won't be
Every time I have seen him at Test level, he hasnt really tested the batsman. Most of his wickets have been against the tail or batsman trying to hit him out of the ground.
I dont have anything against them giving tests to him now because of Lyons poor form, but I don't think we are going to learn anything about O'Keefe that we don't already know.

O'Keefe is tailor made to bowl in Asia

Wonder how the likes Behendorf would go with the pink ball under lights.

Think he'd have over 20 wickets from his three pink ball games

A shield final at Glenelg oval is not remotely close to a test match in from if 50k at the Adelaide oval. South Africa's attack is fair but stronger than south Australia's also

I get the point you're trying to make, but batting in front of 5 people and a dog at Glenelg Oval at the end of March is just as far from Test match pressure as any other Shield game.

EDIT: Beaten to it.

Actually though Faulkner bowled very well in the lone Test he played. Deserved a further look I reckon, but he wouldn't be any better as a Test #6 batsman, and not sure he's really the type you want as your 3rd paceman, either, although I wouldn't be against giving him a go in the latter role if form/injuries to others allowed for it.

Important thing to note in regards to Ferguson and Mennie is that now Rod Marsh has stood down the selectors do actually have the flexibility to go back on the selections.
This is one of the reasons Marsh stood down. The other of course was to take pressure of Lehmann and Smith.

That said, even though I don't want him in the team, I'd feel that Mennie is hard done by if he got forcibly rested and then didn't get selected because someone else performed.

So who do u play then...marsh is injured, Burns isn't up to it....some bastard has to open

Renshaw. We want young talent, well we've got young talent.

The thing with Faulkner is that will the ball he really does not offer anything Behrendorff doesn't do better.

Lyon is still the best spinner.

Didn't take wickets in Perth, who does??

Reverted to bowling darts in Hobart.

Atm he's the guy that zips through overs to get the bowling rate up to speed.

He's better than that.

Lyon doesn't do anything when there is any responsibility on him and he has to do anything more than support the quicks.

He's played nearly 60 tests and taken over 200 wickets and he's still the same bowler Nathan Hauritz was.
