Yep Lyon struggling but Wade in doesn't help. In fact it may be the nail in the coffin to Lyon's current run in the team. Wouldn't mind Wade in if he was really batting the house down in the shield but he's not doing that either. Neville should have remained.

12 runs per innings is a decent differential; Wade is clearly a more accomplished batsman than Nevill, no issue there.

The issue is how many runs will Wade give up with dropped catches/missed stumpings? Hopefully he genuinely has improved his keeping, otherwise any net gains made with his batting will be cancelled out by poor keeping.

If they wanted to go with Maddison, Why not last test instead of Ferg? I wasn't against Ferg being dropped, as he has no form. But swapping to someone equally out of form is questionable. Should have gone with Nic in the first place.

It sounds like they picked wade 'cos he's a real c#nt behind the stumps, yap yap yapping and so forth

He does have a bit of mongrel about him that the test team lacks IMO. That said it won't be worth anything if he is dropping catches.

Apart from one or two innings Nevill has looked a walking wicket.

Let's be honest. Wade is marginally better than Neville and I mean marginally. But he has the bigger problem of having small mans syndrome which he believes entitles him to mouth off at every opposition player, making him a super flog. When he learns to shut his mouth he might earn more respect.

Don't know if Wade has the temperament to knuckle down and bat with the lower order but. Just as likely to nick out or try and slog Duminy/ Maharaj out of the stadium.

His first class strike rate is 48. he isn't just a slogger.

It's not understandable at all, getting the best guy behind the stumps with the gloves is just as important as picking the best batsmen in the top order and they haven't done that.

Wade isn't that much better than Nevill with the bat to justify this.

I'm a Nevill fan but you really can't complain about him being dropped. He's had a heap of chances now and his batting has just been too poor.

I guess the only possible explanation here is they want to see what Maddinson looks like in the Test arena before he's replaced with S. Marsh. Though knowing Chappel they've marked Marsh'a cards because of his age and he won't be back...

If there was a 2 run gap between a player averaging 50 and another averaging 38, it would seem huge.

When the two players being compared are averaging 34 and 22, in relative terms that gap becomes more huge.

Wade is effectively 150 per cent better.

I do remember when Nevill stayed in Sri Lanka and batted like someone who was fighting. THeir FC averages are pretty close. Wade is like 39 and Nev is 38? and Nev is a better keeper. Keepers can make a difference. Remember when Wade messed up in Adelaide at Faf's debut test? Bairstow dropped Misbah at Lord's. It makes a difference.

Like all the selections. Maddison hasn't earned it but and it's a big but he does have the talent to be a world class batsman. Think back to Clarke vs Hodge 04. I'll let this one play out. Good selections otherwise.

The selectors are between a rock and a hard place with the keeping role; if Nevill was retained for another Australian loss and failed with the bat again then people would be up in arms that he's been given too many chances. I like Nevill's keeping a lot, and he's not the worst batsman.

But I can see why the selectors have been tempted to bolster the batting by including Wade despite his deficiencies with the gloves. I hope he goes well.

1 thing to come good out of this is that Handscomb is getting the debut that he definitely deserves.

Hopefully cements himself in that middle order for another 5 - 10 years, no disrespect intended to Voges because I love him however Handscomb is the future and ideally even becomes the test wicket keeper who can bat at 5 or 6.

Fingers crossed for a prolonged stay and not throwing him out like the baby with the bath water if his not scoring.
