Changes for the 3rd Test

I'll concede with popular opinion that Nevill is a better keeper than Wade. But has anyone watched Wade keep on a regular basis lately? I haven't. He struggled when he was last in the side 3 years ago. Is there any chance he's improved since then?

Read that he only ended up with a Test batting average of 41. Top score of only 153*. He had so much ability that he didn't even think he needed to try that hard. And statistically it cost him.

I think you're confusing a lack of visible hardness for a lack of actual hardness.

For some reason in Australia we have this idea that looking good when you do something equals natural talent.

People often forget who was at the other end when Steve Waugh made 200 at Sabina Park, busy making a century of his own. that was a helluva knock.

It's not just spin he is bad at tho, I have seen him drop or (not try an catch) edges from pacemen. We can't go into the Indian series just assuming we are going to get bowled out for 120 every innings otherwise what is the point in even going.

But you can assume he's going to drop every catch that comes his way?

My concern with Maddison, is I have a feeling he will be like m marsh, has the talent, but will probably get confused on how to bat in tests, especially if we are struggling. Hope I'm wrong, but have the feeling we will be hearing 'he just has to go out and play his natural game' a lot

1. there's no rule about appealing. you'll often find that when you're hitting pads or beating the bat 9 times an over there will be a lot of appeals.

He appealed when the ball went for 4, or was left alone, or was pushed into the covers etc etc.

If your team cheat's at cricket, good on them. I wouldn't be proud of that.

It's clearly not state bias when the guy that should be there is also from NSW. Still a strange decision though as there were other young guys performing much much better than him.

Tremain has been good recently, but I'd still have Bird and Sayers (possibly Behrendorff too) ahead of him. Bird has been decent for a while now at Shield level and Sayers first class matches this year have been great

I think Tremain will struggle to take wickets at the top end due to the fact he gets most of his wickets through pace, and he's not 145-150 bowler but a 135-140

He did just get Smith (twice) and Warner as well as Maddinson so thart's got to say something. I'd have Bird ahead of him though who has a very good rest record.

Bit of a moot point now (as the squad changes have already been made), but I'd say Tremain is in probably the best form of any contending pace bowlers at the moment:

None of them are going to frighten with pace, but Tremain is running hot and is definitely in the selector's frame (having recently played ODIs against South Africa), so IMO he should be next in line. Can see why they went with Bird, though, as he has the best career figures, and has performed well previously in his limited chances at Test level.

Stoked Sayers has made the squad really hope he makes the eleven. Must admit did not see the Maddinson call up coming. Haven't seen a lot of Renshaw should be an interesting test to see how all these guys go.

Definitly think we can win with the side we have chosen. Hoping Sayers gets the nod.

Renshaw and Warner will be a great partnership for a very long time. If people don't really know Renshaw that well, he plays like Alistair Cook but with more shots. Sees off the swing of the new ball and then gets his run rate back up. Don't be surprised to see him at 20 runs of 80 balls or somethign like that after the 1st session. He makes it up when the bowlers are tiring.

Maddinson and Wade selections annoy me. Nevill did nothing wrong and i loved his innings in the first test. Maddinson annoys me because a few boys should have been picked ahead of him. Got a great gut feel about renshaw though

I like Lyon, but think he could do with a longer spell in the Shield to get his mojo back, and we happen to have a couple of other options in great form (I didn't mention Agar either, as he's injured, but he's also in the same boat) that we probably want a closer look at before we go to India anyway, so perfect time to make a change (doesn't have to mark Lyon's card forever), but no dice.

I like Lyon too.
Spinners need long spells to get themselves into form. We need to get rid of the senseless, meaningless, Matador Cup, and play Shield cricket only leading up to every Test series.
