Pleased that we made the finals. No pressure nor expectations.Should be a good match.Lets go Eagles.worry about changes next season.Lets get behind the team.

Am I WRONG? We have been rolled in fourth too many times this year NOBODY stood up.

Who in our team is clutch? nobody. Who is has proven clutch in the last? NIC NAT & JK
Who can be clutch? WILLIE RIOLI

Gaff is not clutch
Shuey really is not going to be clutch hes not a goal kicking mid
Darling NOT CLUTCH
Redden LOL
Priddas LOL
GOV LOL

Clutch = Can count on to kick a big goal when it matters most. Pull a goal out their bum.

So true

If we're talking late changes predictions, I'll throw in this, even though I don't want it, but just so I can quote myself and gloat later:

Late change:
OUT: Sheed (Shoulder) IN: Wellingham

That's very interesting, you could easily flip that around to all of the pressure being on Port because of those reasons. They are expected to come out and put us away.

If we chuck a spanner in the works and get off to good start like we did earlier this year against them at AO, who knows? They might start panicking and create more opportunities for us. Finals are fickle beasts.

I see it as very similar to us last year where were expected to thrash Bulldogs.

One thing i have noticed over the last few weeks is the availability of the players and the advertising of training sessions. Last year they kept it all hush hush away from prying eyes , yet this year Redden, Priddis, Yeo, Duggan, Jetta, Hurn, Shuey, Gaff, Sheed JK & Simmo on 3-4 occasions have fronted the media in some form. The players even had more training sessions to ramp it up compared to last year where we were battered and bruised leading into the finals. We also were on fire in that we had won 8 of the last 9 which made the team quite complacent.

We let Port win at Subi to lure them into a false sense of security, then they decided to take last week off.
They're ****ed and they know it.

Bring on GWS. Nic to kick the winning goal in the last minute.

bring in a tall winger like lamb to play on a tall winger like westoff ok still a bit of height difference but better than gaff, use him to tag and drop a tall from defence, idea being make us more mobile. but we get an unchanged line up with the usual suspects as emergencies masto and wellers have had brilliant years so lets stick to the status quo. our tall defence worked on a tall forward line like adelaides but port have more runners we need to do the same.

Lamb for Gaff?
Masten and Wellingham have had brilliant years?
Really?

In my defence I have had a retirement function to attend so 'drink' is my defence. Look it works for murderers so..................... suck it up.

Westoff on the wing was a problem last game I recall.

So lets match their Westoff and raise them with a McGovern. We play a smaller backline and Gov plays as a loose roving tall matched against Westoff. Then Port and Westoff have something to worry about.

You look at Ports kp defense and geez they look shakey, we just need to break even in the middle somehow.

Ryder is the key.

Is that a suggestion to play McGovern on the wing? What would the point of that be? His best features are intercept and contested marking so I'm not sure what the point of having him on a wing would be.

Mind you given our other performance at against them in Adelaide earlier in the year I would be making sure that he's not getting any kick outs either - we are going to need all the marking power we can muster getting the ball outside defensive 50.

He doesnt play like a winger he plays as a free roaming tall utility. So he still plays the intercept marking role a kick behind play but is free to run forward to put pressure on Port and Westoff to be accountable.

Port have a very inexperienced kp backline, they will have their hands full with Kennedy and Darling. If Gov starts sneaking into to forward 50 on the opposite side to where Kennedy and Darling are leading Westhoff has to go with him and acfually defend which takes him away from his game and comfort zone.

Port dont have 3 tall forwards so we shouldnt use 3 tall defenders, we need run and mobility.

Interesting thoughts, does seem like we have some good options to test Port out tonight.

Lol gaff out. Bloke on of our best players last game. He's also been our best player in the last two finals we have played in

For some reason Port like Freo suffer from small brother syndrome....only way to be beat them up is a total focus on constant pressure on ball carrier..no corralling..just full on pounding into the ground tackels..it make them very vulnerable and they fall to pieces saying that if we take the foot off the accelerator..it wont be pretty infront of 50,000 screaming ferrals.

If Gaffs name wasn't on Simmo's magnet board WC would be under investigation for match fixing

That was part of it- definetly. We'd come in thinking it would be a walk in the park and the dogs with their pressure just jumped us. Also, losing Nic so late in the year meant I reckon we played our final the game before beating the crows. We were beaten up, both physically and mentally.

We seem much more switched on with the preparation this time. Time will tell whether it has worked this year.
