I am a Brisbane supporter from Brisbane, my dad is a Geelong supporter ( was born there, went to St Mary's and lived their all his childhood. He is a fanatical 64 year old supporter who wants my daughter and himself to see a cats flag. So i am not trolling when i start a thread like this.

I think tonight proved a few things, 1. Geelong can win when they don't play their best
2. Geelong are possibly one tall defender short
3. Geelong are possibly one tall forward short

Blake (going to be very good in the future) out and King in

Hawkins in for Byrnes, if the weather is fine i think Geelong could do with another strong forward marking option, i think N.Ablett could be the wild card next week, but he must get the 3rd tall defender and not the 2nd, play Ablett, Bartel, Corey , Ling as resting forwards instaead of Brynes

Egan is the difficult one, if he is fit he will play and is missed at the moment. I guess Rooke is the one to miss, this would be tough on him and not one person that supports Geelong would be happy with this.

Byrnes would make way for Egan, hopefully Matty will be fit, he deserves to be there. A lot depends on how the Geelong VFL team do in the granny on Sunday.

Well they said if it was a Sunday match Egan would have played, so while it could be just games that would make him an excellent shot for the GF and we would definetely need him.

However, the thing ive noticed these finals is that teams who bring in players who are suspect or under injury clowds get punished.

Egan is the only thing missing in this Geelong team

If he returns then players like Milburn and Mackie can play
more attacking roles from half back which is why we have
been so dominant all year

Egan will be the only in (if fit)

OUT: Byrnes
IN: Prismall

Byrnes showd he was clearly not up to it last night - shocking decision maker, gets pushed off the ball, panics under pressure etc etc

Nearly cost us the game with his errant handball late in the last quarter.

Byrnes for Egan with Chapman more half forward leading up. Blake for King. For those of you that saw Blake duck for cover rather than take the mark i'm sure you'll finally concede he is a liability.

I reckon these are the selection decisions facing the Cats:

Blake vs King - Blake was pretty ordinary last night and didn't do much against the Kangas either. I think King may get the nod if he plays well in the VFL grannie.

Ablett vs Hawkins vs Charlie - Ablett was terrible last night. Ball slid through his hands, bounced off his chest, didn't do much at all. However he has been serviceable up to now. Biggest issue with dropping him is that he has played for most of the year and this would disrupt the forward structure and chemistry - the other forwards have played with him all year and know how he operates whereas they haven't played with Hawkins much or with Gardiner at all. I think Ablett will keep his spot.

Byrnes vs Varcoe vs Prismall - Byrnes did some good things last night but also did some shockers. I still think he is ahead of Varcoe at this stage but if Prismall has another blinder in the VFL grannie I would be giving him Byrnes' spot.

Egan vs Rooke - Rooke just hasn't looked his old self since returning from injury. If Egan is fit (and the medical staff must be 100% convinced of this!!!), I think Rooke may lose his spot. The only other option is if we choose to change the structure a little and swap Egan for Byrnes (see above).

Another issue is that I don't think we should be making too many changes to the side as this can disrupt the team. If there is any doubt about who to choose then stick with the player that played last night!

Bring in Hawkins for Ablett I say.
No, that would be stupid. Nathan is a quality player who needs another forward (Hawkins) as well as Mooney to take pressure off him. It doesnt help when the ball is kickd to his feet but thats another story. I dont know how people can think of dropping Nathan when S. Byrnes is in the team. Btw it seems very doubtful that Egan will play so we will have to wait before we start putting him in our next week teams.

Gut feeling tells me Blakey will be shafted for King. It would be a cruel move (effectively rubbing him out of any Grand Finals, when everyone else around the club is playing at least one), but one that's been building for awhile now.

The only other change I can foresee, if any, is the omission of Byrnes. Unfortunately (of fortunately for him), there's no real clear cut replacement at this point in time (Sunday may change this). I'm not sold on the prospect of Egan returning (as it stands, we're carrying enough injured guys as it is), and realistically speaking, I can't see the selectors pulling what would be a left-field selection (for them) in Prismall. Varcoe is in prime position, on history, but would need to play a blinder in the VFL to be even considered in my books. Charlie or Tomahawk are the only other two with any sort of claims on discussion of selection, really.

How can you say they were kicking to his feet? More often than not they were delivering perfectly to him. Balls were slipping through his fingers and bouncing off his chest all night...

wtf? Hunt has been playing great footy the last few weeks and deserves his spot!
It's not like I said Hunt for D.Johnson. I just think we need the extra height down back, that is all, I don't think Hunt deserves to get dropped on his performances but in terms of the team he'd be the one to make way for Egan IMO if he makes it back. Different story altogether if Woja gets suspended. Again, also depends on whether we play Port or the Roos.
