Luke, a bit surprised our current leading wicket taker thus far in the Sheffield Shield, Jackson Bird, is not even in any conversation...?
OK, the fact that he is 92yo doesn't help, but still he has form....?
Somewhat but I think Bird's papers have been stamped. Bowls a foot too slow too on average to work at the top level consistently.
No disrespect to the Kiwis boys, but none of them are much quicker than Bird, surely?
My point is I don't expect Bird to be recalled but if Siddle is really in contention I reckon Bird has as much, if not a better claim to that spot ...

With the exception of Wagner who is a different type, did any of those NZ bowlers bowl really well? I wouldn't have picked Siddle, but personally Bird isn't the right choice.
I would still have Siddle before Bird but surely Patto will play
Take out two tests at home to weak Sri lanka & Head's number drop.I always hate this sort of approach.
Hayden's first 15 tests for example included 8 against the Windies with an attack of Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop, 4 away to South Africa with an attack of Donald, De Villiers and Pollock and 2 away to India when Harbhajan was at his absolute peak.
Langer confirms Pattinson is in.

hell's keeper... welcome to the dark zone..6 is too high for Paine.
Abbott wouldn't be in the top 15 seamers in Australia. Would have all of:Starc should've played more in ashes. Kurtis should be ahead of Bancroft.
Abbott deserves shot at some stage.
I wouldn’t have Abbott anywhere near test selection either but I don’t think the selectors would agree with those rankings. He’s clearly a player of interest for them, with his Aus A selection and short form selection. I reckon they see it something like this: Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, Pattinson, Neser, Siddle, Richardson, Abbott, Meredith.Abbott wouldn't be in the top 15 seamers in Australia. Would have all of:

C'mon, you don't believe that - Bell, Winter, Bird etc.Abbott wouldn't be in the top 15 seamers in Australia. Would have all of:

I rank him about same. Took 37 wickets at 22 in shield last year & is now part of odi setupI wouldn’t have Abbott anywhere near test selection either but I don’t think the selectors would agree with those rankings. I personally wouldn't have him in the top ten. One good Shield season isn't a big enough sample size in comparison to the rest of his career. His FC average is 34 and his form this season has been back to around that average. I'd have Tremain and Kelly above him. Neither of them have had brilliant Shield seasons but both have great FC records and are much better bowlers than Abbott for mine. Other than that there's a massive pool of bowlers who are in the same ball park in my eyes. This season Conway and Steketee have stepped up but need to show it for longer. Meredith needs to find a way to be more economical.I rank him about same. Took 37 wickets at 22 in shield last year & is now part of odi setup

So...I'm expecting a batting lineup order of: (Paine), Pattinson, Cummins, Starc, Lyon. Would that be the strongest tail we've ever fielded in test cricket?
No - you know test cricket goes back 140 years? Here's team from 1997 https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...d-test-south-africa-tour-of-australia-1997-98So...I'm expecting a batting lineup order of: (Paine), Pattinson, Cummins, Starc, Lyon.
