After the last two weeks I just don't see a bright future with Lyons and Matho, certainly not both. Just soooo slow. I'd like to see Berry and Clugga spending more time in the middle and bringing in Cutler and Taylor on the outside.

Lyons work off the ball far outweighs Mathos. Imo we need a player in who is hungry for the contest defensively but has good outside run. Cutler would be perfect if he used his body and assets better. I think one of Berry jr or Cox could get a shot.

If by work off the ball you b=mean doggedly trailing opponents all night... I guess. He was a couple of metres behind Treloar so many times it's not funny. Not that Matho was much better apart from one 5 minute burst in the third, he got schooled by ******* Callum Brown (Collingwood's last picked player) in a couple of contests.

I like this. Also with Berry Neale E.Smith and McCluggage in the middle we could potentially move Zorko to the back line. Zorko and eventually Bailey would provide some much needed zip back there.

Outs:
Lyons - been poor the last few weeks. Offers nothing defensively, doesn't spread from stoppages offensively.
Witherden - lacking confidence and his disposal has been horrible all season. Gets exposed defensively.
Rayner - looks very unfit and slow. Needs to do some serious endurance work and drop a few kegs.
Mathieson - injured
Andrews - injured

Ins: whoever has performed the best in the twos. Preferably players who run both ways and have some accountability.

Where to even begin.
Out: Andrews (inj), Matho (inj), McStay, Lyons (can't believe we are paying him so much money)
In: Skinner/Eagles, Ely Smith, Answorth, T.Berry

Answorth will hopefully clamp down on small defenders while also providing run out of the backline. Berry and Smith will hopefully actually win a few clearances. All provide a bit of speed too.

Could probably make strong arguments that we could drop 2/3rds of the team but I’d start in the midfield. Obviously the balance is not right and they’re too focussed on negating the opponents and are being unsuccessful in even doing that.

JLyons and Matho have to go. CLyons or ESmith and Taylor or Cutler replace them. Change the balance.

Unfortunately there aren’t any key forwards playing well enough in the twos to replace McStay so he stays.

Hard to get a read on any of the defenders form in the NEAFL beltings but hopefully if our midfield finds form then our defenders can as well.

I'm not advocating for all these players to go out but these are the ones I see as needing to be looked at.

Harris Andrews(inj)- Do we go smaller, move McStay down back or bring in one of Skinner/Eagles/Ballenden/Wooller.

Rhys Matheison(inj)/Jarryd Lyons- Ely Smith/Tom Berry/Corey Lyons.

Daniel McStay- One of the talls mentioned above.

Alex Witherden- Noah Answerth/Mitchell Hinge/Cedric Cox.

Cam Rayner- Tom Berry/Cedric Cox/Ben Keays/Ryan Bastinac/Lewy Taylor/Tom Cutler.

Lyons should go, I think he had only around 4 possessions again to half time BUT against his old team I give him 1 more week to prove they got it wrong.

Andrews, if out, replaced by Eagles to set a standard for attack on the ball and to play on 2 meter Peter.

Mathieson if injured out replaced by Keays although I think Ely might be a bigger body than Keys as an inside mid, second option is the other Lyons. But Keays deserves his go

Answerth certainly has his hand up and Nic Robinson seemed out of sorts again, maybe 2 games was enough for him. Not apposed to having 2 debuts in the one week.

I think we can't only make forced changes we have to show that wasn't good enough. Rayner looks unfit or injured, I think for the Suns this is where Keays gets his chance and we send a message to the team even the best players are not safe. I'm going with Eagles in the backs and taking McStay out of the forwards and bringing in Ballandene although I think Skinner is probably better suited to crashing packs.

We looked so darn slow last night. Moving McStay back for Andrews and bringing in a smaller forward line seems to make sense, as does bringing in someone quick for Mathieson. Cutler and Taylor seem like obvious candidates for those spots so I'd be happy if they came in. I'm not confident in any of Hodge, Robbo, Witho or Christensen defending small/medium forwards, so if there's an in form smaller defender they have a chance to come in too.

Oh and another big in - tackling. Too little pressure through the midfield. We were witches hats tonight
Jarred Berry and Rhys Mathieson in particular
Also to a lesser degree Mccluggage, Zorko, Lyons

All down on tackles from previous years.
Is it game style, more success or something else?

Did we get it wrong if you are calling for him to be dropped?
Salary cap management has been an issue for us.
No doubt Lyons has his positive attributes but I don't think we wanted to pay his required price to keep him when we had similar product in Anthony Miles at a much cheaper price.

WTF?

Trying to spread the load.

Early but it's starting to look like his 2 previous clubs may have got it right and our recruiters may have got a rare one wrong, it happens.

BTW I'd love to see you guys beat the Crows, would be delicious for the melts/entertainment on their board and the media frenzy that would follow.

See you at the Pineapple Stoush.

Trying to spread the load.
What do you mean WTF?

Each of those 5 players have lower tackle numbers than previous years.
So does Mitch Robbo

Lions were last in tackles / game last year @ 58 per match
Lions second last in tackles / game this year @ only 50 per match.

Just wondering if you guys have a theory why this is, do you think its a problem or just a product of your better play, having more ball in hand etc..

Not as simple as tackle numbers IMO, need to look at pressure acts/harassment as well.

I didn't know those tackle figures....interesting, if we are that low with pressure and harassment (do they even keep those stats?) you have pointed out a problem.

Berry is playing more outside than last year which is probably the main reason that he is down.

I know we won three games without Andrews last year but I think he is a massive out for the upcoming three games.
Will be interesting to see who comes in for him. Ballenden has been an emergency for a while, Eagles was good last year, McStay could go down back or Payne could be a more mobile option.

No changes for mine.

This club is so predictable, so if last week's abysmal effort didn't warrant changes, why should next week's?

We reward mediocre and piss poor efforts so we may as well continue to doing so irrespective of whether any players not in the seniors deserve to be promoted.
As predictable as a Dylan meltdown and negative ranting the moment we drop a few games.

Andrews was not looking in his element either, a forced change will make the match committee think differently. Leaving Andrews one out with the medium pies forward was hard to watch, they killed us with ground ball and on lead. The ball was coming in lace out, Andrews value goes up when the opposition bombs it in - not with the style pies and bombers play.

I'll put Bastinac back in for Lyons, if anything he knows where to find the ball. Give a couple of debuts - Answerth, Wooler, Ely or whoever is consistent in NEAFL - just move forward with whoever is willing to step up.

McStay goes back, replace him with a small or medium forward who will actually lead.
