Our problem is:

Forwards - go for very low percentage plays, like speckies far too often. What happens next is that they have overcommitted and put themselves in a position where they can’t put pressure on the ground ball. The first 2 weeks, our bigs brought the ball to ground and the smalls crumbed. Hipwood needs to stop leaping at everything and keep those arms out.

Mids - if there are no viable options i50, drill in a grubber near a boundary to advantage of a small forward. This bombing to forwards who aren’t genuine overhead threats only ruins everyone’s confidence. And, again their is a lack of speed here. Perceived pressure creates turnovers. We need a rotable set of fast players. We have them but for whatever reason they aren’t meeting NEAFL KPIs.

Backs - the huge amount of midfield turnovers and rebound scoring makes it hard to analyse but I can definitely say that they are horribly slow. The loss of Bailey (despite his turnovers) is a net loss. His run and spread and game breaking is the only style we should be playing. This slowing down and kicking to the boundary is bottom 4 rubbish.

As a whole, the team is not effective and this dysfunction has put everyone in to preservation mode. Swap in Cutler and Cox and tell everyone to play the corridor win or lose. Put Cameron on halfback or midfield to put his speed to genuine use.

After today's game Dodongo would make the following

Out: Andrews, Mathieson, Lyons, Christensen, Hodge

In: Cutler, Berry, Keays, Answerth, Taylor

Don't think the club will make 5 changes but certainly 4 should be made. Either give Christensen another go or Hodge a rest as it seems like Hodge did something to his hammy last night.

Most likely the club will roll with

Andrews, Mathieson, Lyons

Cutler, Taylor, Keays.

Berry in if they give Hodge a rest.

McStay will play down back with McInerney and Hipwood the key talls up forward.

Dodongo will also say that Bastinac is stiff but the good sign is the following players are knocking down the door and any of them can be in the team next week

Cutler
Keays
Bastinac
Taylor
Answerth
Berry

Ballenden not far off but not ready for AFL footy yet.

But certainly enough players knocking on the door to put pressure on Witherden, Rayner etc but we won't make too many changes. Definitely the 6 mentioned are in with a shot

I'm warming on Robertson to the m/f because at least he has the pace to lay a tackle

Eagles down back to provide some muscle and take the game on.

Cutler and Taylor probably imperative . Bastinac was a bit stiff to be dropped and was best in the twos..

4 or 5 guys in there aren't up to it at present.

Bit of a shake up would be the best thing for them

He's nowhere near ready but shows flashes of being a very good player in two years time
Exactly. If selected he's going to do SFA and contribute little. Might as well leave him to develop in the 2s and play a stronger senior team. If he strings together a few games where he contributes over 4 quarters then he might be ready.

What really worries me is that the tackles ,smothers and desperate acts that every player displayed against the Eagles have dropped off to a few guys actually jogging along behind their opponents and not putting in last night especially

No names but some guys played with their heads down last night . What's happened I wonder ?

Time to read out the facts of life and give the seasoned guys playing well in the twos the opportunity

What we lack:
Backline really miss Bailey off half back or someone with speed. We slow to get it out. Prob best to push Cameron back see if he can play that roll. X factor off backline
Mids: Lyons/Matho cannot be in the same team need someone more hard at it N Robbo put your hand up. Or Speed not sure who :)
Forwards: Too many specky machines that cannot hold a grab. McStay I feel will replace Andrews so Keays in for me.

Then what do you do with Bundy replace him with Cutler.
I really do not think we can play both the Big O and Martin unless against teams with 2 rucks. Do you replace both go Smith and Fullarton or Wooler. Or Martin and Fullarton or Wooler or Ballenden.

Watched the twos and lots of the young kids have potential although did not play well for a full game.
Another month or two into Berry Jnr, Madden, E Smith, Joyce and see where they are unless we want to rush one.
Allison and C Lyons still good not sure they are a step above you notice Basti, Cutler, Keays and Taylor more.

For a team chasing most of the night 9 more tackles and a few with butter hands or liked to jog

I wonder if there's any value in trying Rayner in the backline next week. Maybe get him to run with Jack Martin for a while.

One way or the other we need a bit more speed down there, as well as someone else who can break up the forward press with some aggressive ball use.

I think one of Witherden or Gardiner needs to come out, at least for the moment. It's hard to carry both of them in the backline when they're not playing well.

Maybe it’s because the only game I’ve seen on tv was against norf (I came down for the bombers, god help me) but I haven’t seen dizzy being awful. Nowhere near as good as he was last year of course. I’d lean towards dropping witherden of the two with Harris out.

I can’t see Cam being anything other than a liability down back with his fitness levels. It’s a spell in the twos or persisting with him up forward.

I think Dizzy, Andrews and Witho have all been a bit down this season but they should be persevered with.

Yup. The fact that almost all of the defenders (bar walker) are down probably indicates that there are more systemic issues up the ground causing the problem.
the fact we get cut open in the centre probably a lot to do with the 25 inside 50 marks.
Although I think Witho needs to get more defensive. Had the same problems with Rich although he has improved a lot in the last few years in defence.
Both had great foot skills your still there to hold a man not run around as a spare in space.

Rich has been great. Both Rich and Walker have been average defensively but at least they've consistently offered something.

I think it points more to problems down back, really.

Out: Andrews, Mathieson, Christensen, McStay

In:Skinner, Berry, Cutler, Wooller

Wooller played well today, not just kicking goals but tackling and marking as well. I think it would be interesting to see how he goes because he seems like a good third tall. McStay hasn’t been completely horrible but I’d like to see a little change to our tall structure.

Skinner comes in for Andrews. I don’t have much to say other than he plays hard and we need those hard players to help lift the team.

Cutler for Matho is the one I’m really thinking can happen. I think some outside run is great for the side, and I’m hoping he runs defensively. With Matho out it’s one less inside player, but honestly we should just play JBerry inside more. I’m also hoping that Lyons could pick up the loss of Matho, and if he doesn’t he should get dropped next week.

TBerry for Christensen is one that I just want to see. Get another kid into the side and hopefully see some potential as well as playing super hard throughout.

I don’t think I will be right but this is what I want to see.

Rich has stood up under pressure .Kudos to him . Walker has played well but dunno that I'm a fan just yet. Witherden is under a lot of pressure the way the ball is coming in and I think he's as good as we've got for the future tbh. Harris has been off his game for weeks . Darce had limited prep . He's a really good player when right. This is hodgey's last year, obviously.

So when you look at it ,plus how the ball is coming in the last 2 weeks ,it's no wonder we've got no run down there.

From what I’ve seen Skinner has been playing up forward mainly so who knows whether he will be considered in defence.
