Big inside mids are causing all the trouble for GC so far. Ellis-Yolman, Greenwood and Sloane are releasing the runners effectively. Lot of "our" stop n prop THEN react can be seen in GC play style too, next week will be very interesting if they walk in with this form.

The other interesting aspect on Q2, GC are committing a lot (if not all) defenders for the airborne punch to long bombs but Adelaide forwards have one or two stay for the crumb and more importantly, at least one on the goal side. They got at least 2 or 3 goals in this fashion.

Waiting to see how GC come back in Q3.

Given the Suns last quarters in recent times they'll probably need a 3-4 goal lead at 3 quarter time to be a chance.

I'd gladly take them finishing poorly in Q4. We have been a poor Q1 team so it'll be nice to have an opposition who start in the same note.

Keays is the obvious replacement for Matho who I actually think has been lucky not to be dropped this season anyway. He is the heir apparent to Dayne Beams but he does not have the running power and his man is consistently burning us going the other way, he isn't damaging enough to justify this style of play IMV. But I digress.

Andrews going out is an issue but GC only really have 2 metre Peter as a key forward, the other being Lukocious who Andrews would have matched up well with. So I think it is probably worth bringing in a like for like replacement such as Skinner or Ballenden who can play that key back role. Gardiner will need to lift this week if he is going to contain Wright as there will be a huge size difference there. So defensively we need a huge lift if we are going to win.

Only other one I would want in would be Taylor. I would move Berry to the inside role (had his best game of the year on Thursday) along with Keays and bring Taylor to a wing. Lyons gets dropped as he simply isn't providing enough at the coal face and is lessening Berry's ability to play this role as he doesn't really have any other tricks.

Wat?

Eagles was a feel good story last year. Not at his best currently though.

Ely Smith still a while off.

Lewy Taylor and Tommy Cutler both had pretty mixed bags on the weekend. Got decent quantity, but disposal let them down.

Basti looking OK. Keays doing decent up forward. Allison looking good, but I thought this last year too and he still couldn't get a run. Corey Lyons also continuing to do well.

Tom Joyce looks like he has a future, just not yet. Tom Berry had some good moments and could be under consideration. Noah Answerth has been talked up by the club, and you can see why. Showing good promise, and could debut sooner than expected.

Fullarton and Madden both showing good signs, but still early days. Madden can genuinely use his pace on the field - uses it more than a lot of other quick guys.

Atkins, Smith and Laird pretty much ran away from GC and provided so much drive. Our backline of Rich, Witherden, Robertson, Hodge (excusing Gardiner, Walker, Andrews here) can't do this presently. Cutler, Answerth and Allison might fix this gap.

Pros - changing 1 or 2 will help develop cohesion for the next 4/5 games, cons - are we changing too much here in one go.

Wrong week to drop Lyons he'll dominate against old side

Been given chances in spite of not doing much for last 3 rounds. Basti comes in for Lyons. If anything it should hurt more getting dropped against his old side.

Funny how Lyons has become the whipping boy of the midfield and Rayner the whipping boy of the forwards. Lyons output isn't at the level of his GC output simply because he was not playing with someone the calibre of Neale by his side, not to mention the 20+ from Zorko, Clugg and Berry. His teammates have lauded him for the work he's done setting up stoppages and while his numbers are down, he's got an important role to play in the coming weeks. If his numbers fall and his impact in both performance and on field coaching drop then you can be sure Fagan would have no issue dropping him, but clearly the coaches want him in for a reason and for three rounds you could see he was playing his role.

I still think our midfields effectiveness would boost if we could get one more good outside player into the mix. For that reason alone I'd be looking at moving Berry off the wing and looking for someone like Cutler, Cox or Berry jr to fill an outside role.

Lyons numbers have fallen. He’s probably averaging less than 5 disposals in first halves in the last few weeks when the team has been smashed. That’s not good enough. He’s also not winning clearances. It’s hard to see that he’s contributing anything when the team overall is also losing clearances and contested footy. He’s a liability against the stronger teams because he offers little on the outside and nothing defensively oncethe ball gets on the outside.

He is playing with the forwards in the reserves. Beams was a midfielder. Don't think Keays is 'heir apparent' to Beams, actualy think he will be delisted at end of contract

I believe he's talking about Matho

Edit - Actually second reading not sure hahaha. Keays seems a lot more leading forward than clearance midfield to me though from the ressie games I've seen

Just wanted to say that its not been easy for Eagles and the backline to shine in the NEAFL given how far we've been ahead by half time in the 3 games this year to date.

Dodongo would do the following

Andrews out for Eagles (Ballenden stiff but Eagles brings what we need)

Mathieson out for Keays

Lyons out for Berry

Gardiner out for Answerth (McStay plays down back)

McCarthy out for Taylor (needs a spell in the twos to go back to basics - tries to do too much and gives up too many frees)

Rayner and Witherden on notice moreso the latter. We need to keep getting games into Cam.

Forward line of Hipwood, Rayner, McInerney, Cameron, Christensen, Taylor

And if Dodongo sees anyone mentioning Cutler or Cox, Dodongo will spew. Cox not AFL standard and Cutler a selfish player. They won't help the team but rather make it worse.
What Rubbish

We cannot carry players week after week that are not performing. We have to address the areas that we are down on otherwise our poor performances will continue. Changes have to be made to help reduce problem areas. I was surprised that Fagan said that we moved the ball to quickly into our forward line in the first quarter against Collingwood. We were shown up all night for pace. It appears to me that he likes to go with unchanged sides so only for injuries don't expect to many changes. Our energy and work ethic is just not good enough. Not at all confident of a win against Gold Coast with a loss between 20 to 30 points
No one player is ever the answer, however it needs to be said that we can’t keep playing the team that we are without adding our faster players.

Say what you want about Cutler, but he can make opportunities and can be faster than a few players we played tonight. If we combined him with a few others, then we’d be alright.

What I’ve suggested is outlandish, but we are playing players who aren’t putting the required effort in, that are visibly tired before they even get to the ball and are psychologically not in the game at any point. Replace them as they aren’t doing that is required with guys who have put in the effort (bar Eagles, Ballendon, Allison).

We can’t keep rewarding this form.
