I wouldn't mind seeing:

Hussey (playing more like an opener than our openers)
Cosgrove
Khawaja
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Haddin
Butterworth
Johnson
Hauritz
Siddle

People calling Clake a "pea-heart" obviously have no cricket knowledge. Go get some footage of the 2009 ashes. He was the only player keeping us ok that seris. He is our future. He has Doug in deep numerous times and showed grit.

The deferace between Clarke 2009 and Clarke 2010 is form, not being a "pea-heart". A player of his class you give time. He is our best player of spin and when in form is probally our beat baseman behind Hussey. Not to many people where calling him soft in the 2009 Sydney test against Pakistan where they? :thumbsd:Just give him time.

Siddle and Hilfenhaus are as bad as each other. One moves the ball well but doesn't know how to take advantage of it (plus bowls way too wide of off stump) and the other reverts to half track bowling after taking a hat trick with full, straight deliveries. At their best they are both in our best side, but they hardly ever consistently reach that level.

If it is between Siddle & Hilfenhaus for the last fast bowler's spot in Sydney, there is no way Hilfenhaus has bowled well enough in this series to edge out Siddle. Even today Siddle has bowled better than Hilfenhaus, who seems to have the support of someone in high places (I wonder if any photos are involved), as that is the only way he could have been considered ahead of Siddle prior to the start of this Test.

No point dropping the young guys since it's going to be a dead rubber.

Hughes
Watson
Ponting (farewall match)
Clarke
Hussey
Khawaja
Haddin
Smith
Copeland
Harris
Siddle/Bollinger/Johnson/Hilfenhaus

At this point Smith is as good as any other spinner we can chose (barring O'Keefe, but the selectors seem to hate him). Play him at 8 and persist, I think. He might get hit around a bit, but that's why I've included Copeland in the side. The best containing pace bowler in the country I think.

Harris still deserves his spot I think.

No idea who to pick for that last seamer spot. Siddle just can't seem to take wickets, but has looked our best pace bowler so far in this innings. Bollinger was clearly underdone in Brisbane, but I think he's shown in the domestic comp since that he's got his fitness back. He was our best bowler in the last 18 months, so he might deserve another chance. Johnson is an enigma. He'll lose you as many matches as he'll win. At this point I really just think they've got to consider cutting him loose until he can show real consistency. I'd never thought I'd say this about Hilf, but he just seems like such a dumb bowler. I don't know what happened, but he has zero variety in his bowling. Time for him to go I think.

Bring in a few more NSW blokes...that'll go down well.

Siddle has had bursts of quality fast bowling but hasn't produced it enough. Hilf has been vanilla for this entire series, not conceding as many as Siddle has (disregarding today obviously :p) but at the same time not producing those wicket taking balls. In fairness I wouldn't be adverse to having Sids as the main strike bowler at the expense of Johnson, with Copeland and Harris as the other two fast bowlers. Siddle may flourish if he is licensed to just all out attack, knowing the other end will be tied up.

Since the first innings at the gabba siddle and hilf have combined figures of about 2/400.

trying to argue that one has been massively better than the other is a waste of time, for the bulk of the series they have both been poor.

But he was dropped, and yet he has come back into the side 18 months later seemingly having made no improvement to his temperament, his technique or his attitude.

What does that tell you about the guy?
That he lost a large portion of time rehabbing a shoulder injury? Im sure that wouldnt have helped.

The guys a hard worker, but changing your technique to something you arent comfortable with isnt easy. Should not have been selected. No doubt about that. But he's not just some flamboyant pretty boy

maybe they'll let us play with 13 blokes, and we'd still probably lose

Having been selected, even if he hasn't been able to iron out his technique problems I'd at minimum expect to see him batting with a degree of responsibility - even more so given he is trying to re-establish his place in the side.

But, no, he plays a cowboy shot to get out. This is with the side already one wicket down, Hughes with some time at the crease behind him, an out of form captain at the other end and an out of form vice-captain to come in next.

There appears to be absolutely no thought process happening between his ears whatsoever.

Which of Khawaja and Copeland do you object to? Khawaja is clearly the next batsman off the rank. The only other competition is Marsh, but Khawaja and had longer success and a better overall record. And is a few years younger. He's also the leading run scorer in the Shield this year.

Copeland is the third highest wicket taker in the Shield this year, after a stunning debut season last year. He's 24 and offers something that's lacking in our current line up - pressure. And he can bowl long spells whilst keeping it tight.

Errrm...Hughes, Clarke, Smith ...what have they done to retain their spots?

How many have they won?

3/7 sheffield shield, 5/7 last shield finals.

0/4 been in the last 3 50 over finals.

4/5 20/20 games 5/5 finals

been consistently one of the best teams in the competition in the latter part of the decade taking over from QLD at the start.

Hussey on form is the best batsman in the country consistently over the past 5 to 6 years, and FC form doesn't translate to test form right? why is smith there? wasn't the arguement he has FC form?
White is accordingly the most successful FC captain in the competition.
Hodge has been outstanding although retired at this point from the long game.
Add in Rogers who is out injured but has been a superior opener for WA and Victoria.
McKay is averaging about 25 with the ball, Hastings about the same during this period. both in their mid 20s.
McDonald is one of the more superior all rounders averaging about 29 with the ball and 40 with the bat, figures comparable with any in the competition.

selection on FC form? there you go...

And people go on about hughes centuries, hodge got a double century in fairly oppressive circumstances leaving the bowlers 4 1/2 sessions to get the opposition out. he did fairly well in his limited tenure in the test arena and has hardly been given a look in since.

fair dinkum, you get rid of blokes in good form, you don't give good batsmen a go, and we carry hughes, smith, clarke and haddin <shrug>

as for crap bowling, dougie got 1/130 in his bowling attempts.

The team selectors really want:

Watson
Hughes
Clarke (c)
Khawaja
Jacques
Smith
Haddin
Hauritz
Stark
Clarke
Cameron

Go on your rewarding undeserving types with Test spots, why not go the whole hog. We all know you want to.

almost good enough to give the bangers a thrashing on a flat deck.

but under pressure, where is m. hussey to carry the pea hearts?
