An article I just read (may have been cricket.com.au) said Hazlewood may be rested because we had to bowl 188 overs for the Test. Is bowling 2 days in a Test match considered a heavy workload these days? Not to mention the big gap there was between the 1st and 2nd Tests.

surely he won't want to be rested, afterall this one is on his home deck.

note to selectors: rest him after the SCG test for the next 6-7 weeks if you feel the need, as meaningless cricket is being played during that time.

Then pick 3 seamers.

Boland for the Bigfooty melts but is seriousness Bird. Pick someone who IS up to it. Not that 31yo dart bowler.

So who then? Boland is picked off that one innings against the WA side which is bad enough. Who are you picking....Half the bowlers in Australia are injured

O'Keefe has certainly earned his opportunity. That said when I watch him bowl it really surprises me that he takes a lot of shield wickets. Playing the 2 spinners at the SCG will be a nice change.

Hey the other positive is they might get through the overs on time for once!

The squad has been picked, why are people trying to play fantasy cricket? It's Siddle, O'Keefe or Boland, not Bird, not Ahmed, not anyone else.

Agreed and it will be O'Keefe, Marsh can act as a 3rd seamer and it will be good practice as we go to the sub continent where we need that 2nd spinner

me personally if selecting the side would be to rest hazelwood bloke looks cooked. then it depends on if siddle gets up or not wont play many more tests could even be a farewell of sorts.

in bird, another bowler if siddle is injured
out hazelwood(rested) siddle if injured

would also redo the batting line up and bring marsh in at 5, nevill at 6 and drop voges to 7 marsh and nevill badly need a hit

Yeah its an interesting idea to try and give Nevill and Marsh more time batting. I wonder if Smith would send either out as high as 4 just to get some time in the middle

He could have done that in the second innings at the MCG and didn't.

I was thinking there might be a change to the squad if Siddle comes up injured, and Bird is a like for like. But that's probably too practical.

He bowled really well yesterday. No way Marsh gets dropped.
It's not his bowling that is the worry. Unfortunately though he hasn't had a bat the last couple of tests so the selectors will persist with him. He will get a few opportunities in NZ though you wod think, i just don't see him as a top 6 bat.

O'Keefe has 17 wickets this year in the shield at 24.6. He's more than earned his opportunity in fact those stats outdo most of the quicks in contention as well. Stats don't tell anything but they do show that he's doing something right. His career average is very similar and is way better than any other spinner in the country (no one else averages under 30) so it's no fluke. He may not make it but a spinner averaging 25ish in a first class career in clearly worth a shot, especially when he actually out bowled Lyon in his only test to date.

the decided to go like for like.
both add nothing of value to the bowling attack.
191 wickets at 24.78 is hardly nothing. Better than any other spinner in Australia at first class level. At least he was taking wickets unlike Hagar the Horrible.

Sunday- showers 2-15mm, mon- rain 10-40mm, tue -showers 10-40mm, wed showers -5-15mm...
