I wouldn't play 2 spinners, include Jackson Bird instead. My 2nd spinner would probably be Zampa or Agar otherwise

Only people who say he's been "terrific" are people who don't actually watch the Shield.

Why not a quick? I think they'll provide more than O'Keefe (in the case of Bird at least). If a spinner either Zampa or Agar.
Agar the horrible? Guy can barely get a wicket in Shield. O'Keefe can... Agar can't - how does that make Agar a better player?

Looked at the figures this season. Fawad and O'Keefe average 24, no one else is under 45 as a spinner unless you want to count Lyon.

But let's pick guys averaging 50+. They'll suddenly start taking wickets at test level.

Floros is the third highest wicket taker amoung spinners with 11 @ 31. In fact this stat will prove how average Agar has been... Doherty has as many wickets at a better average. Maybe he can be the next Steve Smith. Give up spin bowling and concentrate on batting.

Don't mind the idea of playing 2 spinners, but would have preferred to see a leggie. Unfortunately our spinning depth in general is lacking and I don't think Ahmed is the answer as I can't see him offering much more than McGain. O'Keefe is worth a shot, but we're in trouble if Lyon goes down.

Wasn't exactly a name I was looking for but jeez that's pretty poor if he's got the third best average. Floros is absolutely woeful.

To be fair to Agar, WA isn't exactly great for spinners but it's not an excuse to call for his inclusion in the test test despite averaging 2.5 times more with the ball than the guy picked

Ahmed is easily our best leg spinning option, so no point desiring something we don't have right now.

Was going to make this point. I'm not arguing for Agar, but you can't compare the stats of someone who plays half his career at a spinner's graveyard with someone who plays on Australia's biggest turning wicket. Frankly, if a NSW spinner doesn't have a better average than every spinner outside NSW, then they probably shouldn't be considered.

Plenty of people talk about stuff when there isn't a better option available. A good example on this board is the 78 page thread on how bad the channel 9 commentary team is. That's not going to change, but there's still plenty of conversation.

In terms of Ahmed, while Holland isn't a leggie I'd play him ahead of Ahmed in the Victorian team. If given the choice between Ahmed and Zampa for the test side I'd wouldn't hesitate giving Zampa the chance. Sure he's more unproven and his stats/performances to date aren't as good, but I see him as having a higher chance of a successful test career.

Ahmed has a record of 5 wickets at 30 at the WACA. It isn't a spinners graveyard that's for sure. Agar averages below 30 at one ground (min 2 matches).. surprisingly Bellerive. His record at AO is 35, GABBA is 56. MCG 81!
