I agree with Phat. Callan or Rooke has to come into the team. I also think we should look at Gardiner and McCarthy to add something to our Attack. H should be in if Essendon go for a Taller Forward line.

If KK is suspended i would say in Enright and Chambers . Out KK and Spriggs. At this stage Enright is just a better player than D.Johnson Callen or Rooke.

He is, but we have to select a team that is balanced.

Balance dictates that we need a Fumbles/Callan more than we need an Enright.

I'm not sure that 2 or 3 ins and outs will make the difference that we need to win finals

There needs to be a change in mental preparation or attitude of the other 15 or so players, and they need to start believeing the Geelong are genuine premiership contenders, and forget what happened last weekend.

Do Essendon have a dangerous small forward worth bringing in a player to man up on? Cupido isnt small, Milburn should play Hird and I cant think of anyone else really. Which does play into our hands well.

honestly, I am starting to wonder whether some of you guys have got any idea. small defenders our weakness - what the hell are you's playing at?? whilst I understand the need for a fit enright to be recalled (based on the fact he is hard at it, skillful, and in our best 22 - not because he is a small defender), I hardly think our defenders (tall or small) are our problem. can you's honestly say that after watching yesterday's game we need to bring in a rooke or a dj?? you have got to be kidding yourselves.

we need to get it past our half forward line, and kick goals!!

We're not going to get it past the half-forward line if we can't even get the ball into the midfield, mate.

Bringing Enright back, especially into a final, would be suicide. He broke his jaw, after breaking his arm. I'd much rather see Tim Callan or Fumbles Johnson come in to replace Spriggs.

If Kingsley is out, we have to stick Benny in the goalsquare and give H a turn floating around 35 - 50 metres out. Essential for his development, IMO.

I agree with you on the mental preparation and attitude, but not on your latter point of considering ourselves a genuine Premiership contender. Whether we are a contender or not is irrelevant at this stage. We need to gear ourselves up to win the next game before we even think about that sacred day.

Two changes won't make much of a difference, i agree; we need to play the brand of footy we were playing throughout the season. Accountable, tough, hard and direct. None of this give the opposition 15 metres.

what the hell are you playing at koulagirl?? did you not watch the game at the weekend?? how many times did the ball make it into our half forward line only to be belted straight back??

Our Forward/Half Forward line isnt great but its not the reason why we lost on the weekend!
Their small fowards had a field day, we got killed in the clearances, they took Scarlo out of the game. The inside 50's are enough to show that it wasn't the forward lines problem that we lost. We were forced to kick short and slowly through the midfield & the forwards were pushed up the ground to get the ball. Meanwhile we werent accountable and they had space going forward on nearly every occassion.
For christs sake jmain14 dont go blaming this loss on just one thing, it wasn't that simple.

I'm afraid sammy boy, it was that simple. was actually at the game, and couldn't help but realise that down one end there were marking options (tredrea, lade, even bloody josh mahoney) leading and demanding the ball, and down the other end we have ben graham making half leads.

I didn't say we didn't have other weaknesses, simply said the lack of small defenders was our major weakness right now.

Drop the insults, they don't further your argument in any way.

If that happens, i hope for H's sake that we also have David Haynes in there.

I'm not against the idea of H playing at CHF, but if he's the only marking target he will get crucified, even when you consider Essendon have no true tall defenders outside Fletcher.

Need Haynes there to give another option.

In: Callan (small defenders are really struggling)
Gardiner (has to be better than Haynes)
D Johnson (hard and tough)
Chambers or McCarthy

Out: Haynes Kingsley Playfair Spriggs

If we went with Chambers, who is going to play the key forward spots?

On those changes we'd have gone from having Kingsley, Graham, Haynes and H (at a pinch), to having Graham and Charlie only.

Charlie, like Haynes, is far better as the third tall.

I was at the game and I have the injuries to prove it.

Fixing a problem at one end of the ground is pointless if the ball is going to be rebounded before it even gets there. Did you not notice the amount of turnovers in the defensive half of the ground? Could you not see this occuring more than turnovers in the forward 50 when the ball got that far? I agree with phat, defenders are our major problem. We have forwards who hardly got touches at the weekend, yet the ball could easily have been brought down if our defense had been a little more balanced. Port's forwards were good, but not undefeatable. No more so than any team we have beaten this year...

Good news, Mooney is free to play.

Mooney in the clear

Geelong big man Cameron Mooney is free to play in Saturday night's knockout semi-final against Essendon at the MCG after being cleared of any wrongdoing over his role in an incident with Port's Brett Montgomery during last Sunday's qualifying final at AAMI Stadium.

There was much speculation Mooney may have been cited to appear before the AFL tribunal for the clash, which occurred early in the second quarter, which would have been a major blow to the Cats - particularly with another key forward in Kent Kingsley having to face the tribunal on Tuesday.

But AFL video reports officer Ian Robinson said Mooney's contact with Montgomery was as a result of an "attempted side bump."

After reviewing the clash Robinson said there "appears to contact between Mooney's upper arm and Montgomery's head" but that at "all times Mooney's arm remains tucked in to his side."

JMain i think that you are right on the money, for starters Kinglsey has been carried for far to long and his one to two great games a year are becoming boring, if he is to become a great forward like Lloyd & Gehrig he needs more games like he played against Essendon earlier this year. Although a tall forward most teams i wold think that Kingsley's impact on the game will be no were near the impact out other forwards will have like Ablett and co and there will put a mediocre tall defender on Kinglsey to free up a tall elsewhere.

Our defenders will also need to put in a big game on the weekend as they were run off there toes on the by players continually running through lines. Although it was not there entire fault it doesnt help when the on ballers and half forwards are not following there men down, a few times Chapman was caught chasing the a@se of Pickett while he kicked one of his many goals.

Bill meet Gugi,

Sorry to go off-topic, but what is your take on people who use other alias' to agree with themselves? I find it rather humourous.

Good one, nothing to back up your argument, also notice how many times you have replied on this site, you dont have much on do you?

Sorry mate, but your accusation is incorrect if you are implying that i am a cover for Jmain14.

Go and actually watch a cats game (a full game) instead of being glued to the computer screen 24/7. Shouldnt you be playing dundgeons & dragons or something?

Hehe

Can try all the generic insults in the world, but nothing is sadder than a bloke who feels the need to use his alias to back up his own argument.

You seemed to have agreed with them in a few of your posts.

If he doesn't know him something is desperately wrong given they both use the same computer. :D
