Changes for this week

I reckon these guys are in contention to come in:

Grima, Ross, Sansbury

Are these guys are in contention to go out:

Watt, Brown, Swallow

Swallow has led the team in both weeks with leading TACKLES (13 overall) and you want him out??

Extraordinary claim to list Swallow to be a contender of the omitted.

I don't want him out, but if I was naming three people in the mix to be dropped I think he would be one of them.

Dropping Swallow would defeat the purpose of what i said we needed to do - and that is strengthen the depth of our midfield rotation by adding more proper mids.

Seeing as Hale has been pretty awful the past two weeks, would Josh Smith be any chance of coming in?

Can he ruck?

I don't want petrie taking half the ruck duties again, so unless Goldy is ready - Hale stays IMO.

I think Watt and Brown will both play.
I have a feeling Petrie will be started forward to exploit there lack of quality talls back there without Croad. Watt will go to Boyle, Firrito to Roughead and Gibbo on Franklin. Brown to play that loose man role that he has sucked at over the years. If all goes bad there, Petrie is obviously plan B for any one of them.
It has been said for a long time that Brown gives us flexibility, I think it works the opposite. Petrie plays that swing player role perfect and with great effect, Brown just generally gets beaten everywhere and makes us too top heavy.
I think Smith, Urquhart or maybe Grima are the best options to come in as they are such good uses of the ball our forward line of Thommo, Jones, Edwards, Petrie and Shagga would be so much more effective.
Smith would be a great matchup for Williams if he comes in for Dew.

What happened to Lachlan Hansen last week? Im sure I saw his name in the selected side to play against Richmond but noted that he did not play. I have not read anywhere why he did not play. Any news on that?

JYD only made one change to a team that was flogged in round 1, I'd be surprised if he made any changes after a 7 goal win, even if it was Terry Wallet's mob.

The only change i can see is if we want to inject some class into the side if JWS is fit and ready to go. Who would make way is anyones guess, maybe Matt Campbell to follow the flavour of Scott Thompson. ;)

on the injured list with a foot injury, probably kicked his dog when laidley told him he wasnt playing

Nothing like a JYD rocket to fire Hale up. Wouldn't surprise if Hale plays a blinder.. (well, within the votes mix amongst the faithful here)

And I like the idea that the media is talking up the Hawks.. sheesh, two big wins vs the Dees  (didn't we have them 70+ before we pulled the handbrake in the praccy game?) and Freo.. hmmm.. last 8 goals of the comprehensive win over there.

Yup, the footy media is right on top of things. No mention what happened in the game that counted in Sept last year. Ah, of course, to many, it didn't happen.

C'mon North.. BIG SCALP ENCORE !! :thumbsu: RIPE for the biggest upset since we beat 'em last Sept.

So it seems pretty much everyone expects Jesse to play.

Would be absolutely awesome news if true - no need to bring in Eddie and a very adequate back up if things go wrong down back, allowing us to drop Watt with more confidence.

IN: Grima, Smith
OUT: Watt, Brown

and I am starting to feel much more confident about the shape of our team.

I don't think anyone can be condfident that Blake can run his part of the rotation at quick AFL pace. We don't need 40 minutes this week. Play him the week after.

Out: Brown

In: Smith

Out: Brown

In: Smith

Same for me . . . I thought Brown was OK this week, but on the basis that if Smith was available, I'd play him, and I don't know who else to drop (although Swallow is close in my view) - sorry Browny. You still have nice eyes though.

Out: Watt, Brown.

In: Smith (won't believe it until i see it), Gav.

Hope Gav is a bolter. Come on Dean you know you want to know. Give this kid a crack. He will be safe as houses and walking ten feet tall with Pratt, Gibbo, Spud and Dish looking after him.

If JWS does come in there is no way he will be up to pace. Give him half midfield time and time on the HBF. Rotate him with Gav off the wings, and see how Gav goes in a high intensity match against the big boys. Just tell him to watch everything Jesse does and observe it, and do the same. Kid's a gun, and has some of the best skills at the club, something we are going to struggle badly with this week i feel.

If Gav isn't selected i hope we bring in S Thompson. Did nothing wrong the first round, should be a contender.

These are all very wishful thinking, and Brown did have a good game last week (by his standards), but he shouldnt feel secure or complacent after it, this is his last season unless he does that every week. Put him iin the 2's to make sure he knows.

Hmmmm.

If Hansen had 19 possessions and laid 6 tackles coming off the wing against Richmond, I'd have no doubt that you all would be stroking yourselves.

A good performance is a good performance. Brown played well against Richmond. Accept it. It's fact. For that he wont be dropped this week.

How did he go when the game was even close to a contest? I can't be bothered checking, but of these obviously wonderous 19 posession in a laughable free running wing position, how many did he get when we were 8 goals up?

The bloke plays his 200th game this year. 200!! Forgive me if I aint jumping up and down in anticipation for him running with Hawthorn mids at Telsra Dome on Saturday.

You're only as good as your last game of football.

I saw a couple of the practice matches and I have to admit that I haven't seen Brown play a bad game of football this year.

Let's all hope the trend continues.

His possessions were evenly spread throughout the day. Tackled well and provided midfield pressure. Simply put you are allowing your dislike for Brown as a footballer to cloud the fact that he had a good game. Sure he has put in some stinkers in the past and deserved to be dropped when he wasn’t however on this occasion he played well and deserves another go. You simply don't go dropping guys who had close to 20 touches and contributed to the team’s success. What message does that send to the other players?

Exactly. Let's get behind the Big Fella.:thumbsu:

Is he going to play as a KPP like he should be. He is the Anvil don't forget. Or is he going to play as a behind the play midfielder like he did against Richwhat?

Yes he played well i accept that (by his standards) but we're playing the near on flag fcuking favourites!

If he is going to play that role again because he is comfortable there then this weekend we are screwed coming up against the Hawkies midfield. They will smash us. I don't care if they are overrated, Richmond are underrated in how bad they actually are. Bring in a jet to compete like his life depends on it, and Laids give him a rocket to make sure he knows his life depends on it!! There can be no complacency in this side this week, and Browny is the king of being complacent, for about 4 years now we've been told his place in the side is under threat. Pffft.

We're all aware that he will not be dropped this week. But we've all said it time and time again that this should be the benchmark, or even if not but to at least contribute. Hope he proves me wrong. PRAY he proves me wrong in fact, because if he does it goes a long way towards having 22 even contributors accross the park.

If he fails, it basically puts us a would-be KPP player down. Them's supposed to be the valuable players that provides a contest, them's are.

We're low on key position players as is. We don't need another slow bits part player who can't take a mark (e.g. Hale). Not against a quick side like the Hawks. We even had brown in the Ruck for the start of a couple of quarters and he got no taps.
Face it, if he's not tall enough for ruck and he can't take a grab then why do we need a 6"5 100 kilo wingman? We need some genuine game breakers. Bring in the kids.
