Changes for this week

Out - Watt and Brown
In - Smith and Thompson

What Dean will likely do to ensure we play no kids under 22.
Out Thomas, Campbell and Swallow
In Sansbury, Grima and Davies

IMO the one thing that CANNOT happen this week is for Hale to play at CHF again. IMO should only be in the side as a second ruckman, nothing else.
Bearing this in mind, that mounts a case to start Petrie at CHF as Edwards needs to play deeper, as one weekness in his game is that he goes to ground too easily and is then out of the contest.
Cannot allow this to occur against Hawthorn cos they will run rampant if our HF line acts as a trampoline with their leg speed and foot skills. On a fast deck like the dome it will be one kick coming off our HF line and will be hitting their forwards on the ___ lace out.
Leigh Brown is not the answer at CHF either this week.
Agree Petrie is an option on Boyle, but even though i am not a fan of his, Watt is also another option. I would go this way as it gives us a viable CHF option with a guy who we all know will work his ringer off in every contest he gets to.

JWS plays if he is fit, no doubt about it as he is as much chance of re-injuring in the 2nds as he is in the seniors.

Maybe.

What we did was get Drew to move up-field in posession, and Hughes getting lost in transition. Laidley did this very well.

This week, Spud on Roughead is a certainty, as is Gibson on Franklin. I hope we don't play Petrie loose in defence, but he just might go that way, giving Watt the job on Boyle (who is good at his job and a very smart forward).

Rewind to Semi Final NB. Petrie was the KEY FACTOR as the ROADBLOCK ahead of Buddy. Sure, have Petrie move upfield with a licence as the game goes on but I really can't see stacking the forward line as we need speed there and we've got forwards named Thommo & CJ who can keep Clarkson reaching for the panadol as these guys missed the semi-final and then there is AZZZA!! You Beauty!!

It shits me, because while we're likely thinking about plan a, b, c & d on how not to lose this game, Hawthorn are thinking about how to win it.

So the coach is too reactive.

Next time be a man about it, give credit where it's due, and just post a link to one of my posts pointing this out eons ago.:thumbsu:

It's even a great photo Woodson. We need Azza to really kick on, because that will make a great statue one day. :thumbsu:

It really is an excellent photo. And should make anyone who says Harding's mark was better think twice. (Harding's mark, btw, was courageous, committed and quite spectacular, probably the highlight of the game on Sunday. Azza's mark was a once a year, special, traditional Jezza-type speccie and better).

Any chance tonight we will see;

In - Thomson Hansen Smith

Out - Watt Brown Harding

or the expected no change or Smith for Lower.

I know people don't like changing a winning team but we are playing a different team this week and I see each of the above changes as improvement to the side.

Can't believe Power isn't being mentioned in the outs. The guy gets a few cheap possies and everyone is sold on him.

What I saw on the weekend summed Power up perfectly. In a passage of play when Boomer was streaming forward and Power and one Richmond player in close proximity, instead of doing the team thing and shepherding for Boomer, Power chose to peel off and try and get an easy stat. The shepherd would have resulted in Boomer running into F50 and kicking a goal or delivering a pass to a leading forward. Instead because of Power and his rubbish, Boomer was pressured by the Richmond player and forced to give off a pressure handball.

Power also has a bad habit of going to ground in pressure situations. Saw him drop to his knees quite a few times when pressured.

Power is rubbish and the quicker this is exposed the better!

Haven't seen enough of Power to form a judgement (xxxx pay tv) but would love to find a spot for a bit of youth, bit of pace, maybe a bit of Urquart on a hbf. I would be fairly content for the moment with those four changes.

The jury is still out on Power but I must say on the evidence presented thus far, I've been pleasantly surprised. He has exceeded expectations as a clearance player in the middle, has good hands, good foot disposal, good decision making and is versatile. The problem he has is that he's unassuming and not really a dasher or hard at it. I like him off HBF and as a back up mid-fielder. I can only see him at risk of being dropped if we are at full strength and a couple of the kids show a bit. He's better than Casey Green!

FWIW my changes:

In: Hansen, Smith, Ross
Out: Brown, Watt, Harding

Others in contention: McMahon, Grima, S Thompson
Others at risk: Swallow, Thomas, Hale

In contention in the next couple of weeks: Sinclair, Adams, Urquart, Lower.

All in all a nice position to be in. Hope Laids has the guts to take a punt on a few of the kids to discover early which of them will play in our next premiership. However, I'm bracing myself for No Change.

While I'm not sold on Power just yet (although he has exceeded my expectations so far), the problem you point out is something you will see time and again watching us play. I think there is actually a clear directive that we are to find space rather than shepherd - which annoys the crap out of me when we have one of our best users of the footy (say Harvey or Wells) pushing forward with the ball and a Simpson or Rawlings (really, could be anyone of a number of players, these just were the first to come to mind) peels off looking for a handball rather than taking out chasers.

Brown stats.

16:35 Picks up loose ball behind centre, cuts through three Richmond players and spears a beautiful 20 metre handpass to free Campbell. Resulting forward thrust results in Grant goal. Brown high-fives a few team-mates, before turning to the crowd and gesturing with a colourful display of pointing and karate kicks. He stands before us proud. A football warrior. A man among men.

Hey, Billy, love those stat summations.

Here's some more stats.

Brown from 2000 to current day.....

Games: 173

Average kicks: 6.3
Average handballs: 4.1
Average marks: 3.7
Average goals: 0.4
Average tackles: 1.5
Average hitouts: 1.2

Impressive.

10 touches a game over 173 games would have to be one of the worst set of the numbers in the comp for a non-defender.

But I guess it's what he doesn't do with the ball, TOD. Which is alot of the time, it seems.

Good bloke, though. Gun bloke.

I've already heard people talking by the water cooler at work....

"What were you doing the day Browny bumped Carroll ?"

"What were you doing the day Browny was dropped to Tassie and had 4 posessions? And then what were you doing the moment you found out that he was promoted back to the AFL the next week?"
