Changes - Melbourne vs. Port

I must admit, I was tempted to start this thread last Friday night in a fit of rage and frustration. I have since calmed down.

In: Tapscott, Maric/Bate, Davey

Out: Morton, Jurrah, Bennell/Nicholson

Tappy is a must, after watching him today. Morton was insipid.

Jurrah just doesn't look right, and we've heard rumors of niggling injuries. I would go for Maric as his replacement, but I suspect the FD may go for Bate. Dunn is nowhere near it based on today's efforts.

Davey may be ready by next week, if so he may come on as the sub. Nicholson out would be stiff, but IMO we can't have both him and Blease in the same team - same player, same mistakes. If Bate comes in we'd be more likely to keep Bennell as balance up forward, way too top heavy otherwise.

Joel Mac is still injured AFAIK.
Bartram was average at best today.

I agree with the Jurrah omission but will the FD have the guts to do it? If we do and don't include a Cook or a Bate then we are going rather small, although I'm sure the ground up there will be slippery which will probably suit smaller players.

I think Morton and Bennell have to go with Tapscott and, hopefully, JMac being the inclusions. How close is Davey? Is he a definite in or a test for the week ahead?

I know I'm not alone in thinking that if we can't roll Port then SERIOUS questions have to be asked!

After watching Port today, I'll shoot myself if we lose either of our games against them this year.

Fingers crossed they play Morton on a wing this week. But what are the chances of that?

They will continue to persist with Morton and Jurrah. They would of played in the VFL otherwise.

Not really, say we replace Jurrah with Maric, we still have Watts, Green, Howe, Petterd & one of Jamar/Martin as marking targets, that's plenty especially in potentially very slippery conditions

It actually makes a lot of sense taking into consideration the location & conditions that we lose a taller marking player for a smaller guy who can also genuinely assist with stints in the middle as midfield fatigue will also play a big part.

Won't happen although.
Out - Jurrah
In - Cook

Eventually Melbourne are going to have to test Watts/Cook as a duo in our forward line.

Not a chance, seeing as Cook was apparently OK but had limited impact at Casey in the wet, it would see foolish to debut him in slippery-humid condition the following week.

Out: Bennell
In: Davey
I thought Davey was still 1-2 weeks away. Would like to see him play as the sub & come on in the second half if he is fit.

This is Jurrah's last chance. He has a week off to rest and is playing up north in front of hopefully some friends and family, against a very weak side.

If he doesn't play well then he should be dropped.

I'd have:

In: Tapscott, Maric
Out: Morton, Bennell

Maric is a better small forward than Bennell and Tapscott is better than Morton full stop. I could consider keeping Morton only if he plays on a wing. In that case, Maric misses.

I'm not sure about Davey. If he is fit then he'll definitely come into consideration.

Jack Watts board

From memory, Bennell had a really good game up there last year. So I'd keep him in. Was quiet against the Dogs, but he wasn't alone. He kicked goals in Darwin last year, so a move to the forwardline could be in order.

From what I've heard, I don't think Davey will be ready. JMac should though. I'd leave Jurrah in, he's had a week or so to get over his little niggle, and suspect he'll want to play in front of the Darwin crowd.

So my Ins and Outs are based on JMac being fit.

INS

JMac
Tappscott

OUT

Nicholson(stiff, but would rather the Bull in)
Morton

I just can't have Morton in the side. I honestly don't think Bailey will drop him, but he should be dropped. JMac was playing some great footy before getting injured, and The Bull if fit is an automatic inclusion for his kicking and hardness. Maric, Bate and Nicho as emergencies.

Surely we will win this game! If we lose this game, Bailey will officially be on death row and this board will go apes droppings!!!

I'd like to see Maric come in as a forward. Has been lively this year IMO and we should reward good form at Casey.

Don't think we'll see too many changes however. Tapscott will be straight back in.

Those calling for Cook are ridiculous..

Could play him KPD in the wet?

Could play him KPD in the wet?

I don't understand the reasoning in playing a raw KP forward as a Defender because it's wet/slippery? And we have no need for an extra tall defender.

Anyway, forgot out about the Jurrah/NT thing, no way he'll get dropped this week & Bailey's comments about him bouncing back confirm just as much.

Tapscott a must in a game where contact will be high & long kicking is worth it's weight in gold. I wouldn't rush Davey as form was poor prior to injury you don't want him to come back under done & continue average form, Maric the other potential in

Jay Schulz would kick 15!

Schulz is just the sort of dodgy forward who will probably kick 5-6 against us. Happens all the time. Hell, look how Aaron Edwards dominated against us early in the season! Same goes for blokes like Pearce and Kane Cornes - they have been average all year but will no doubt dominate against our midfield.

I hate these games...
