I don't think Griffin's ruckwork is better than Maric's.
Ivan can't jump, but at least he jumps at the ball and isn't afraid to jump through his opponent. I hate seeing ruckmen jump past their opposition, and Griffin does it all the time. He might have a better leap and reach than Ivan, and palm the ball more accurately, but until he's prepared to put his body on the line, he'll never be as valuable at the ballups. He's better than he was, mind you, but he's still got a long way to go.
He's still better than Moran though. I could not believe his approach to the center bounces on Sunday. Who the hell comes in from the side at a center bounce?
It's not surprising that Ivan has averaged the most hitouts (and possessions, and marks) this year of our 3 ruckmen (though I do admit the sample size isn't very big yet). He's given away way too many free kicks, however (though I contend that the vast majority of them were absolute bullshit).

Yes he needs to lift, but even on current form Ivan is clearly ahead of the other two.

7 goals ....OK .....but Drummond he was not dropped for his goal kicking

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that his lack of scoreboard contributions this year was part of the reason why he was dropped?

it seems Goody may miss and Edwards is doubtful
Disappointing that these two plus Bock will miss the game but what an opportunity it will be to see some new leaders emerge.

It was apparent during the 3rd quarter blitz that we didn't have anyone willing or capable to change the momentum of the game. To grab hold of the footy and create something against the tide.

The microscope needs to be on the 21-25 year olds. That is Douglas, Knights, Porplyzia, Reilly, Symes, Tippett, van Berlo and Vince. This group of players needs to be having an influence on the momentum of the match. Not waiting for McLeod, Goodwin and Edwards to 'turn the clock back' any time that we get in trouble.

Hey Guys,

What is the future for Sellar?

I remember playing along side him in school, and he was such a gifted player.

Heard he was being lazy at training, and even rumours of him considering a building career.

Does he have a future with the Crows? If not, would he be picked up elsewhere?

At this stage it appears unlikely, but he does have the rest of the year to turn it around.

As to elsewhere, who knows, he wouldn't be the first Crows reject to be picked up by another team - Darren Pfeiffer, Hayden Skipworth, Alan Obst are all examples.

Cheers Mate,

I hope he does alright, back in the time I knew him he was a great guy,

Dad was always a tool, which I believe has had a negative impact on his game. Honestly, I would think a move away from him would help.

Carl, although Tippy is in that age bracket, he certainly hasn't had the game experience of the rest of this group and probably could be forgiven for not showing those sort of qualities at this stage. But I do agree that the others should now be standing up and leading the way. Thought Knights had a pretty decent first game back this week.

Spot on Jenny, his game was sensational. Given questions over his disposal in the past, massive kudos to Knights for having the balls to take some initiative, attack AND do it effectively most of the time when his teammates were floundering. Displayed confidence in his abilities and leadership when it was needed. Great that he did it first game back also, usually a slow starter. Maybe being out of the Crows system for a few weeks was an advantage:o

Knights, Walker and then Thompson were excellent....then daylight I'm afraid (though a couple others were ok).

I think Moran was Ok, better than griffin, and I have always said he should be a tall forward, not a ruck.

Out - Stevens, Douglas
In - Maric, Jacky

Yep your right the guy that missed a set shot out directly in front from 20m out should be a forward  my mate did that the other w/e in a regional VIC league and got canned by everyone!!

So with your plan to drop Stevens- does rutten play on Brown & Bradshaw or maybe we could put otten on one of them*?

* note this would be like throwing a rabbit (or crow if you will- granted the crow can fly...) in a lions enclosure!!

To be fair, Tippett did that regularly last year but people are still going nuts when he's not played as a permanent forward.

There just cannot be space in the forward line for Moran to squeeze in with Walker and Tippett. He may prove me wrong but I don't see Moran as an AFL ruckman. He will have to make his way as either a wingman who drops forward and rucks part time, or as a floating defender who rucks part time.

Agree completely with your thoughts on Knights ......very impressive

re your best players ......think you might have left Tippett out who was excellent and should be bracketed with the players mentioned

Yeah I had forgotten about Tippet missing a goal from a mark in the goal square last year. That was terrible, nothing wrong with his kicking style was just a bad drop from nerves, I think it came off his shin from memory.

My recollection is that his kicking style was pretty bad last year, but I went to training a number of times this preseason and he seriously would have clocked up probably 50 hours of practising kicking for goal. He worked so damn hard on it, kicking from all different angles between 25-45m out. No wonder he's improved this year :thumbsu: So many times we've seen poor kicks and year to year they never improve so I was skeptical but even his misses look like decent kicks more often than not this year.

It's strange (and a bit sad) because almost everything you've said there is the opposite of what we're seeing at the moment. He finally seems to have found his feet at league level but he doesn't seem particularly gifted - he doesn't have a sense of when to lead, what decision to make, etc. He's still really only natural as a ruckman.

On the other hand, he certainly has not ever been lazy at training, he works his guts out at training, just doesn't seem to be able to put it together during gameday.

If he were delisted another club might throw him a lifeline with a rookie pick but I can't imagine we'd get a pick for him.

Hmmm, on reflection i was probably a bit harsh in saying Tippett was daylight behind the other three. Partly due to my unfairly high expectations on him given his potential but predominantly due to the 3rd term. I watched the rucks extremely closely on the weekend. Tippett was certainly better than Moran over all (though the latter was acceptable in the first half) but they were both terrible in the ruck in the 3rd when the game was lost. Tip was rucking for 5 of the Dogs 8 goals and had a poor quarter imo. That's why i didn't rate him up with the others.
