I will be criticized but how do you lose from 23 pts down in the last qtr and not just lode but by over 4 goals. Craig do the club a favour and get lost. You are not helping us.

The game plan needed to be totally overhauled at the end of last season. If not before. It does not hold up under pressure. Our record in finals, the scarcity of wins when trailing at 3 quarter time, and the sheer number of times we get overrun after leading well tells you that. But Craig is so stubborn, so unwilling to accept that regardless of the amount of detailed planning he puts into the gameplan, that it's not perfect. Enough is enough.

No point making a change during the year, but Craig must fall on his sword at the end of the season.

By game plan are we referring to the complete loss of the centre square in the last quarter. If that's what we are referring to then yes I agree.

Where do you draw the line between our game plan and our inability to stick at a task for the full 2 hours.

The task is the game plan... we just couldn't execute it. Not enough players able to stand up and lead the way. Don't for a second think we didn't carry a few players through this game.

I would have taken Chris Schmidt in a wheel chair over Richard Tambling out there today. 1 player yes... but f*** he was hopeless.

Schmidt was worse than Tambling by a mile, and that's not a compliment to Tambling. I've been a supporter of Schmidt but he was terrible today. He's lucky we had Gunston playing so he wasn't our worst on ground.

I don't know about a full-ground game plan change, but we need to figure out why we continually get so badly smashed in the clearances. It was the clearances that killed us in that last quarter - did we even get one clean ball in the centre? God, we were terrible. Meanwhile Dale Thomas gets on the end of about five in a row without a player within yelling distance of him. Break even in the centre clearances and we would have won that game. So bloody annoying to see us get smashed in that area again, and again, and again

We will not taste premiership success with Saint Neil in charge.
In:
Walker (provide he's not suspended by the SANFL)
Riley
Martin

Out:
Schmidt
Gunston

If Will Young or Daniel Talia were fit I'd drop Sellar and give one of them a chance.

Actually Schmidt was lucky Gunston and Tambling were playing :thumbsu:

Tambling just earnt his first stretch of SANFL games with that effort in the last quarter. He couldn't have been more bad...

VB won't go. Has the art of nodding his head down to a tee.

As Jenny says, you need to roll with the bad times as well as the good.

Are you being serious? Because if you are then you simply know nothing about footy.

The game plan was good enough to be four goals up in the last quarter. Our defensive action was very good and we made it very difficult for Collingwood to score for three quarters. Our forward movement was a pass too, with a few notable exceptions we were able to move it long and deep and prevent the ball rebounding out for three quarters.

The problem was centre clearances. Collingwood gradually got on top an by the last quarter were streaming out of the centre at will. Pretty hard to do anything in that situation.

Our clear problem is that we only have only one elite extractor, when Thommo was spent, collingwood took control.

It's personel not coaching.

I'll give you my sarcasm detector. It will help you.:thumbsu:.

As has been the case for many years, we are good when the game is at a minimal to average pressure situation..

Every time the real cranking heat comes along, we slowly at first begin to implode and then it's a landslide..

It's burned into my memory and i can visualise it, it's happened so often..

Like watching a crash but not being able to look away.

We have four genuine in and under, tough as nails players in our side right now. One of them, Thompson, has the experience and body size required to play his best football. Sloane and Dangerfileld will get there, but they're a season or two away. Wright is a natural clearance winner but we need him up forward too - hopefully Callinan can come in and give him a chance to play more in the center.

Right now we're relying on Reilly, Douglas and van Berlo to win clearances. All three of them are NOT natural inside players. They've had to develop this side of their game. They all do their part, and have a place in our side, but, quite frankly, we should not be relying on these blokes to be our prime clearance players. So, we've got one bloke we can rely on to win us the ball in close. If he's injured/on the bench/blanketed out of it, then we're up shit creek. Even worse is that, outside of the current 22, we have exactly ONE bloke who appears to be a natural hardnut. Riley. I think we should get him in the side and se how he goes. At least a taste.

We'll continue to be shit until Sloane and Danger are ready for greater responsibility in the middle. That will take time and experience.

We should also be having a crack at a finding another extractor in trade week. We've got excess talls, and presumably a fairly high pick to work with.

I think we're actually okay otherwise, but we'll continue to look woeful until we can actually get our hands on the ball.

Also, when you've got issues winning the hardball, I really don't think you can afford to persist with guys like Henderson. He's got a future, but it sets a shocking tone when he's getting a game every week despite repeated shirks and half-efforts. I'm probably too hard on him, and I don't think he's the cause of all our problems, but right now we need to get aggressive. He'll never be more than the icing on the cake. Not a bloke we want when we need to learn to knuckle down, as he's never going to have that string to his bow.

Coaching personnel is fine though ?

Whatever damage was done, was done in the hope of snagging a flag between 05 and 09. Didn't happen, and for that we can blame them to a degree. I am, however, of the opinion that we were hugely unlucky in 05/06, and recognise how much luck goes into winning a flag. But instead of dwelling on that, the reality is that we have the list that we have right now. If we sack Neil today, I don't think any other coach would be getting much different results with this mob this season. The youngsters need experience, and they're getting it. I'm happy to see what Craig can do with them, but if we're not looking like serious threats when these nine -20 game players are nine 50 game players then he'll have well and truly failed. We can expect improvement, and, if we don't get it, then find a new coach. It will still be a young enough list at that stage for them to build to a genuine crack.

I would be a lot more confident, however, with changes in supporting staff (we are FAR too insular here), and if I wasn't terrified of losing Tex.

Sorry Dandy. Lets agree to disagree.

Given the caveat that everyone has 20/20 hindsight, can we open the discussion with "WTF was Matt Rendell doing in 2009 when he picked Talia?" I mean, we had a ton of talls and need mids, and with his first pick he picks another key position player? What was he doing?

Here's the 2009 draft:

113 Daniel Talia Calder Cannons Adelaide
1 14 Lewis Jetta Swan Districts Sydney
1 15 Christian Howard Glenelg Western Bulldogs
1 16 Jasper Pittard Geelong Falcons Port Adelaide
1 17 Daniel Menzel Central District Geelong
2 18 Luke Tapscott North Adelaide Melbourne
2 19 Benjamin Griffiths Eastern Ranges Richmond
2 20 Nathan Fyfe Claremont Tigers Fremantle
2 21 Ryan Bastinac Dandenong Stingrays North Melbourne
2 22 Gerrick Weedon Claremont West Coast
2 23 Koby Stevens Gippsland Power West Coast
2 24 Jake Carlisle Calder Cannons Essendon
2 25 Aaron Black Peel North Melbourne
2 26 Travis Colyer Claremont Essendon
2 27 Callum Bartlett Geelong Falcons Brisbane Lions
2 28 Mitch Duncan East Perth Geelong
2 29 Jack Gunston Sandringham Dragons Adelaide

I'd very much agree with that. Fyfe, for instance, would make a massive difference to our side right now.
Heck, I'd take it a step further and say that taking both Davis and McKernan the year before was a mistake. Sidebottom is an outstanding player, and one that many on here wanted us to take in that draft. I'm a Davis fan, but I'd definitely prefer Steele right now.
