it will be a slow grind, and they'll run away with it in the last. can't see us being competitive for 4 quarters. it'll only take a 15 minute lapse and the hawks will hurt us so much worse than GC, richmond or brisbane did
They dont fumble. They pressure the ball carrier. They have excellent skills by foot. They have key forwards who can mark. They have leaders out there who stand up. They are everything we arent at the moment.
The team selected wont be able to handle the speed of movement by the Hawks. Fairdinkum the amount of times the ball will get out the back or into space tomoro night, I would not be against going the uberflood. 8 man defence.
Brad Scott wants to pick a team like that. If I was Swallow Id direct players to limit the damage.

There is nothing flamboyant or exciting about the lineup that will give the supporters who have experienced a week from hell some new and fresh optimism heading into tomoro.

If anyone recalls the night back in 2008 when we faced Geelong. It was the corale Ablett match. That night we were extremely depleted yet JYD picked a youngish team and we took the game up to the cats. I havnt been as proud an effort from a North side who experience wise were no match.

This is a big opportunity lost by atleast not giving Wood a run. Dumont is just stiff. But the boys would be up and about, a couple new kids in the team to lift the spirits and we go out and take the game on. Who knows what will happen.

Quite frankly as of tonight Brad Scott and his match comittee can go and get ****ed. Bitches. The lot of em.

Bringing McMahon and Firrito back in feels like two steps back from where we were at the start of the season with our younger guys stepping up and the likes of tippet around. I know they are both in for lack of kpd. It's just hard to see where we are at the moment. What is a winning formula, what will work and transition well together if we are lucky enough to scratch at finals

Firrito has earnt it. McMahon is the polar opposite.

I'm just hoping if we are going to miss the 8 we flop in spectacular fashion and Scott is given his marching orders.

I'm sick of this mid table shit.
Sick of the mid table shit and the "all talk, no action" bullshit as well.
It is almost criminal Wood, Dumont and even Hine weren't given a shot. At least one of them anyway. McMahon's arse should have its own postcode! Hawthorn will be happy, they can give Mitchell another week off!

I would hate to be a young player on North's list at the moment. I can just imagine they must be thinking what do I have to do to get a game?

It's not like they are being held out by players performing at AFL level. Adams would drop his own **** if it wasn't attached to his body and Black couldn't get a kick in a street fight.

As you well know, I think you are a fantastic poster mate.

Well off the track on your post there for mine though, despite the likes you may have received which is understandable.

We have injuries yes. No doubt. But the selection committee (not just Scott I agree) has once again inexplicably failed on this despite that limitation.

There is;
1. No reason whatsoever for McMahon to be playing considering we are still building a young group.
2. Wood's form is so impressive he should have played already. Misses again.
3. We bring in Wright. Tried and failed over and over again. Why?
4. What did Warren do so wrong? Kept his man quiet, and didn't get the ball himself. Why is he dropped?
5. How has Mullett been worse than Bastinac?
That's just 5, but I have more if required.

I'd like to hear your view on the above, and why you think that so many quality posters are going into "meltdown" purely because they are very disappointed. There are reasons for this reaction which aren't explained by an injury list.

Cheers for the kind words, and as you know the feeling is mutual. I'm not clumping all those who disagree with Brad as having a meltdown. There are posters like yourself who are arguing the point and actually expressing why they are so disappointed. Others have spontaneously combusted (no doubt because in their mind they are bigger supporters yada yada yada), but I digress.

As stated I don't agree 100% with the changes but I'm not overly pissed off.

1. McMahon brings experience. I would have definitely preferred Hine but I'm not sure what his fitness is like at the moment. I think McMahon comes in due to a lack of options. Maybe Scott and Co are hoping both McMahon and Spud can organise the defence. It might be a good move given Thompson has had a dip in form lately and I attribute that to not having Grima or MacMillan around.

2. You are right Wood has been impressive. But he did miss a few weeks so maybe they are going with a bit of caution on that one. Last thing they want is risking him especially after a 5 day break. Yes some will say "but Wright and McMahon had the same break" and they'd be correct. However, they haven't had injury issues. Last thing we need is another player going down with a foot injury. Those suggesting Wood might as well leave due to a lack of opportunity need to take in to account the injury issues he has had previously.

3. Wright I'm 50/50 on. The optimist in me is still hoping he comes good, but that light is fading further with each passing game. However, his VFL form cannot be denied. If he's been told to go back to the VFL and perform, he's definitely done his job. He wasn't given any favours in the cats game. Our strange defensive setup had him playing one on one a couple of times against Hawkins. To me he's still a player in limbo as he never gets to settle in one position and has been interrupted with injuries. I think if he's given a tagging job he'll step up like he did against Goddard. I feel Juryduty's mention of Hodge is a good one. He has the tank to run with him. The size and aerial ability. Just needs to go back to slotting goals like he did early on in his career.
Some posters are saying he's weak?! Ha if they watched the Gold Coast game last season they'd see he definitely isn't. Given his dodgy shoulders and how hard he throws himself in I think he's the opposite.

4. Warren. Mixed feeling about that one. I admit I know absolutely nothing about him. His VFL highlights didn't really impress me and once again I think Hine is the better option. Warren needed to set the world on fire last week to stay in and change the coaches mind. In my opinion he was getting the 'Will Sierakowski trial'. A lot has been said about the Mayes matchup. I seriously doubt he'd be omitted if that was his task against Brissie.

5. I think both Mullet and Bastinac have had poor seasons by their standards. I think Basti is saved because of the following:
  • His fitness. Hawthorn will test our fitness and Basti is one of our best.
  • Injuries to Wells and MacMillan.
  • Perhaps he is going to be given a defensive job this week (I hope so because he really needs to pull his finger out and shutting someone out of the game would go a long way to restoring some faith).
  • We need run and Dumont won't bring that.
  • In a choice between Mullet and Basti the better option for this game is Basti. At least he has shown glimpses (Cats sub, port and West coast games). It's definitely last chance salon for him though.
Once again it could be better but it's a start.

I hope Jacobs plays a full game with Adams the sub!

I still think we will give it a red hot go tomorrow night. I think if we pressure them we could take it. Why? because if (big if I know) we are switched on we are most certainly good enough. We've lifted against the bigger teams this season. Lastly, I think we will approach this game like we did when we played Port (relentless pressure).

I'm obviously in the minority here but I quite like the changes this week. In fact I think the selectors have done a decent job this year with the exception of Tarrant the other week being the only real shocker. I like that we have bought in some experienced players. Anthony has had a great season and deserves a full game. I hope Bastinac or Adams is the sub probably Adams.

With that opinion you run while you still can :)

I want to see us get belted, with Anthony, McMahon and Wright putting in absolute shockers, so this fraud of a coach gets some real heat put on him.

This week is nothing more than selection to trying to limit the damage, instead of taking a risk and taking a punt on some kid that may have a future at the club.

It makes me sick.

Cheers.

Based on the law of averages I was due for an above average comment...unfortunately for everyone here it took 3410 to get here. I'll commence working on my 6820th now!

Come on mate surely not. No matter how pissed off are you shouldn't want us to lose or our players to get touched up.

If it benefits in the long term, then bloody oath I do.

This weeks statements in the media followed by the selections, shows Brad Scott is nothing but a fraud.

More than happy for a bit of short term pain if it gets us back on track with someone that can actually coach.

There comes a point when you can only handle so much mediocrity, when your club clearly has talent.

If that means we have to go backwards to get rid of Scott and bring in a coach who demands performance, then I'm on board the smashing train.

there is no statement here.

not with the outs, not with the ins.

the changes are weak.

Anyone actually beleive that Aaron Mullett is concerned that Loose McMahon is going to take his role long term?
This is a lesson to him long term, F*** up and your out of the team

Yet a forward Black had 6 more touches than a midfielder McKenzie, who was rightfully ousted of this team.

Will always remember last years match at the g where we took it up to them in invincible form and almost got over the line. I just feel I won't be as proud of the group as I was that day

Not so sure about meltdown, but surely the bottom of the barrel has now been scrapped.

Anthony- I'd play Harper. One will give you nothing the other may do something.
The bolded bit is spot on but in the opposite way to what you're thinking
