Out: Ziebell.

You're the vice-captain of the club and an important representative and leader. Should pay the price for not turning up every week.

Seems to shit his nest with ball in hand and an opposition player closing in.

Saw some nice things from him last night. Put his body on the line and made some smart decisions with the ball as well. Think we'll see vast improvement over the coming seasons.

There is always plenty to work with when a 22 year old can find the ball at will. Disposal and awareness needs work but hard when youre the sub everytime you play and then the scapegoat. Needs an extended run now.

I bet $1million that when the season is over we discover JZ was carrying an injury and is off to have surgery.

Yep. This will annoy the shit out of me. Ziebs you aren't half the player when you're injured. Sure it's brave but you're killing the team.

In: Hansen, Wood, Dumont, McMahon
Out: Black, McKenzie, Adams, warren

Now Black is one of my favourite players and it pains me to say it but him along with McKenzie and Adams (Can't drop them all and Bastinac is Lucky) need a real kick up the arse.

Black is either shitting himself at ground level or totally unawares of what he needs to do at ground level.

His lack of progress this year has been totally disappointing.

Out: Warren, Brown, Adams, Black
In: Hansen, Daw, Wood, Harper

Daw offers more than Brown as the backup ruckman. I've just run out of patience with Black and Adams, send them back to the VFL to find some form.

No idea.

I think any and all of these players are droppable and at least 3 should be:

Adams
Bastinac
Mullet
Mackenzie

That's not including a couple who were in because we are thin including:
Brown
Warren

Both of who showed little, I'm not overly fussed about Warren though. If he's in as a lock down defender and his player does stuff all then I can live with that from a first gamer. Hansen back should sort that though.

Spud was shocking but has been good as a fill in this year. Depends on other players, but he cannot play one on one against big players anymore (could he ever?)

Adams is contributing less each week and it is not going to change. I think he gives effort but he cannot pick up the ball cleanly. I reckon he's cooked, just need to determine if it's for a few weeks of this year or full stop. High half forward that doesn't kick goals and doesn't get his hands on the ball = VFL.
Bastinac drives me nuts. Does more than a few of his mates but just does absolute crap at times too. Drop for stupidity.
Mullet - Nothing consistent from him all year. A few good goals every 6 games doesn't cut it as a defender.
Mc - Not ready or not playing in a strong enough team. Don't think we can afford to carry someone like him at the moment.
Brown - Needs more development. Seems like he could always be undersized but he does seem to have great agility and coordination for a bigger bloke. Might be something there, good utility down the track?
Warren - No real comment other than above. Certainly not hanging him for the game. Usually a first game defender not stuffing up and being noticed is a good thing.

Alright, I've had a couple of days to reflect. I wouldn't be opposed to:

OUT
Bastinac - Has been putrid all year.
Black - Same as above.
Warren - Not a bad first game, but we need Lachie more.
Brown - Tough one, but needs to work on his strength. Potential is there.

IN
Anthony (sub) - Unlucky not to play a full game, but Jacobs gets a shot first.
Wood - Gets his chance in place of Black. Hopefully thrives under the Friday night lights. More wing/half forward.
Lachie - No explanation needed, best 22.
Maj - Hasn't put a foot wrong since being dropped, experience wins over Brown.

Bracing myself for OUT- Jacobs, IN- Anthony though.:(

Genuine question, not being facetious: when was the last time Brad made a statement at selection? Not dropping a guy like Spud or McMahon, but an actual bombshell selection that put people on their toes? For the life of me I can't remember if it's actually ever happened. Someone mentioned after the 13 game, but I can't remember who took the brunt of that loss...

Define 'bombshell'.

Define 'bombshell'.

Making a genuine signal to the playing group that something needs to change. Not necessarily dropping on form, but dropping on intensity and effort, and that being done to a genuine name, not a middle-tier guy. Can't be bothered thinking of the kind of guys this would have included in past years, but this year it might include dropping Drew, Jack, Wellsy, Boomer, Thompson, Swallow, Goldy, Wellsy etc. Not that all these guys deserve to be dropped, but it's that caliber of player being dropped on a lack of effort or intensity that would constitute a "bombshell". Bastinac and Adams are the next level down, so I'd classify dropping them as a statement, not as a bombshell.

Hasn't happened and I doubt it ever will unfortunately because we simply cannot replace those that deserve to be dropped or they play at an acceptable standard more often than not. JZ is probably the only player out of the top tier that can be covered and at times deserved to be dropped.

Brisbane are a lot better than most people think, they have some good kids and had alot to prove with Browny finishing up. This is the most even season I can remember. Last position on the ladder with 3 wins mid season proves that there are absolutely no easy games and the difference between 5th and 18th is very small. So I am not killing myself ovey a 1 goal loss to Brisbane at home.

People seem to want blood, but public shame might do just as much as being dropped this week. A game at home vs the Hawks is not the time to reinvent our team. That being said we have been carrying a few that clearly are not ready.

Out
Brown - I like him but not yet. The runs will just give him more incentive to develop and get back in the ones.
Warren - I'm still scratching my head as to why he played in the first place
McKenzie - way off.

These three had 7 touches between them on the weekend. Just not good enough.

In
Hansen - crucial to our defence
Daw - easy swap for Brown and potentially our most damaging forwad
Dumont - has earnt a chance. I would be happy with anybody else as long as they are fully fit & showing form in the 2s.

Yep.

Warren and Jacobs. You can see it.
Warren will be dropped, McKenzie has to be dropped, Patch has to be dropped, Basti should be dropped, Brown may be dropped.

If Jacobs is dropped I am going to be right pissed.

Dropping Adams and Bastinac would be an admission of wrongdoing.

Won't happen.

If Jacobs doesn't get a full AFL game on Friday I'll be pissed. Did more than Bastinac and McKenzie combined in a quarter and a half.

I'm probably in the boat of saying I'd rather pick a guy that might not contribute as much to the team, but will play will heart, passion and intensity. Talent only gets you so far, as we've seen, and maybe we wouldn't be in this position if Brad had have made this clear a few seasons ago. Whoever replaced Dal at St Kilda a few years back when Ross Lyon dropped him almost certainly couldn't play to the standard that Dal was capable of, but Lyon made a statement about which was more important, talent or intensity, and it not only sparked Dal, but sparked their whole team. Dropping Jack, Goldy or Hunter (all of who have been poor with performances and intensity at various stages this year) could have sent the message we needed (and still do) to send.

Jacobs came on as a sub the way Levi did earlier in the year - with a full head of steam. Absolutely deserves another game next week.

Patch is the first to come to mind when talking about dropping players. The rest l agree and l have backed Jacobs all year, i'm glad he's showing why he wants to play afl football.
