I think we might just play a short backline instead of bringing in Dean, it's pretty clear they don't rate him
Dean will play. They rate him enough to have re-signed him and not gotten in a back up in MSD. They just rate Maynard as a tall more.

He's been playing very well in reserves.

Has Howe’s groin been confirmed or is it potential soreness and they were being cautious?

B. IQ. McStay. Maynard
HB. Houston. Moore. Perryman
C. Crisp. Pendles. Alan
HF. Lipinski. Checkers. Membrey
F. Elliot. Cox. Shultz

R. Cameron. Naicos. Jaicos

Int. Sidey. Long. Steel. Markov
Hill?🤞

My point is more about being too confident about securing a victory. Mihocek might have been the difference last night. I didn’t expect us to drop that game.
On the contrary
I think they were prepared to lose this without those personnel if it came to that. They were backing them in to win still. But the bigger picture is we were 3 games clear on top and need to ensure players are able to see out the remainder of the season and be right for finals.

This one home and away game, despite being drummed up all week long like a grand final for GC, was just that, a home and away game.

We have our sights on the flag. Could afford to drop a game or two to manage players. We almost won this.

Ins:lippa, checkers, Allan, Hayes and Dean

Out: Howe, Steele, Markov, Nick (inj)? If he’s ok then Sully and WHE.

Cox stays because it’s freo and Darcy and Jackson are scary if McStay has to play against them.
If we have no confidence in Dean the Membury could play back but I doubt it. Our key backs are a concern.
Bobby needs to sort out whatever is going on and get back.
Cox stays in. McStay to CHB

Exactly.

GC played their "most important" game. For Collingwood this was just round 18.

Nobody remembers July football come September, and that's what the team is gearing up for.

We're still a couple of weeks away from getting Beau and Billy back.

IN: Checkers, Lippa, Dean
OUT: Steele, Sully, Howe

I'm inclined to play McStay back this week.
I also think one of Long or Titch have to go.
Be interesting to see if McCreery is right to go, we've really missed him.
I'm not expecting Hill back until the Club say he's right to go.
Allan should also come back in.
in: Checkers, Lippa, Allan
out: Howie, Steele, Titch
if McCreery is ready, he comes in for Sullivan

With Frampton and now likely Howe out, I’d bring checkers in, keep cox in and move McStay down back to combat Freo’s talls
This is what I would do but I don’t think they will. Not sure McStay knows how to play in our backline
Dean seems to lack strength at AFL level

I was thinking the same thing
McStay back and Cox stays in. Cox I reckon should do more of the ruck work and Cameron play more forward.

Allan needs to come back. He was cementing himself in the side and often drops back and helps there.

Steele out now. He can work on making it into the side again next year.

Hopefully with the 9 days, McCreery is right. We’ve missed his pressure and running speed.

Resting players didn’t work last night. They rested the wrong ones anyway. Our forward line was piss poor. If they’d rested Howe he wouldn’t have gotten injured.

I agree they should have rested Howe too -- I found it weird they didn't. The others - Lipinsky, Mihocek -- were sore. It would have been folly to play them when we were three games ahead. And it wasn't their fault that Sullivan and WHE are the fumble brothers and that Long and McStay couldn't kick from directly in front, and that Sidebottom and Mitchell have the pace of 50 year olds.

Hopefully Jacqui, Fly or Darcy can help Bobby compartmentalise his issues so that he can get back on to the field. We can use his flair and pressure in this upcoming block of of games against top 8 contenders.
We don't know what Bobby's personal issues are, so there's no point even commenting.
We sure do miss him, though.

The main thing is to play Dean as what he's good at - an interceptor, he's not a full back.

With Howe now defenitly out I think Cox will have to stay in and play predominantly as a forward and Mcstay go down back.

OUT: Roan, Sullivan, Mitchell, WHE, Howe

IN: Allan, Lipinski, Checkers, Hill (hopefully), Dean (don’t think he is that up to it but need the height)

Out: Howe (inj), Hoskin-Elliott, Sullivan
In: Lipinski, Mihocek, Cochrane

We’re simply too short down back and don’t have any other option. Just give the kid a shot. Looked ok in the VFL game against Gold Coast.

No, Dean isn’t an option. I’ve given up on hoping he’ll become something. He won’t.

You writing Dean isn’t an option and playing Cochran? COD, come on…. Dean is miles better actual KPD than Cochran atm. Cochran is a rebounder/tall flanker.

Deans been one of the better defenders in the VFL which is why we didn’t take one. We are down frampton, Howe, reef, he’s next in line. It’s not ideal but that’s where are are at injury wise atm

I find Steele's outstanding efficiency by foot astonishing given his high ball drop. That aside, I would love to see Josh Daicos get another opportunity to show last night wasn't just an incredible freakshow and see if he can get close to replicating some of those clearances and breathtaking dances through oncoming traffic and shrugging of tackles. I don't want to use him as "a break glass in times of emergency" option.

We have uncovered a potential match-winning move and I hope stubbornness doesn't prevent us from exploiting it. There are plenty of potential half back flankers but not so many elite midfielders in our team.
