This is my concern. Omission of TimMe from the forward line means that we have the two talls in our forward line, with only one ruck.

Our aerial dominance against Sydney was profound and was an important factor in how we were able to command that game.

Brisbane's defence is just as tall, or taller, than the swans'.

I guess this is horses for courses, and against Brisbane we assess running power and midfield strength more important. However I am a little concerned that we appear to be one tall down on our generally preferred structures.
If we roll it back to Monday and know Membrey was out I think we all just assume Cox comes in. With JDG available though and the in I can justify that as the change because he offers enough of an aerial threat to support the others. Where I flip towards a “I hope they know what they’re doing” POV would be JDG as the sub.

I mean why pick him if he’s only playing that sub role? It doesn’t build his fitness and if he’s not right you could just as easily find yourself in a McInnes v Dogs position where you’re subbing him in after 5 minutes. He’s top 3 on the list you’d assume they’re picking him knowing he can get through 90 minutes of footy.

I don’t think it’s a decision that the match flips on, but you’d want to hope Andrews isn’t Taylor OR dominant with Membrey and Cox resting in the stands and JDG in the vest…

Membrey “managed”…

No Way Smh GIF

Coxy must be doing it hard. It's his last year and he can see the writing on the wall with the way Fly is structuring the team. A bit of an anti-climatic end to a fantastic career.

Fly would have had this discussion with Cox. Like he did when he took over for 2022, and Cox was considering retiring after 2021 (IIRC).

Mason is a smart man and I’m sure he’s coping. Good on him for hanging around this year when he knows he’s mainly quality depth.

The club will make a big deal of him when he does retire - not sure it will be anticlimactic.

I think with the luxury of having the MMMs is that we can rest one like we have with Membrey and still have two legitimate marking options, we sort have already done it with Checkers a few weeks back.

I guess this likely means JDG plays mostly forward

He’s listed as 1st emergency. Surely if “managed” then he’s just not playing at all regardless. Seems odd to me to manage but name emergency. Sounds more like dropped.
its a weird one.
They listed mitchell as "managed" but named as emg last year when everyone knew it was a dropping.
When Sidey was managed last year. Was it the same?

I think he’s just been dropped.

I don’t like it necessarily but given degoey is likely playing forward I can see why. We all know what he’s capable of there.

Leaves 1 defender, 1 forward and 1 mid on bench.

I also think WHE may provide coverage forward of the ball when mcstay rucks. Which is why Allan will be sub IMO.

I can’t see us playing degoey just to be sub. Doesn’t make sense to me. He’s either fit for a full game or he’s not.

Squad mentality. I very much doubt we’re considering him as dropped, but it is a peculiarity that he’s an emergency. My guess is that he’s not in line to play even if an injury pops up and he’s dealing with something.

Sidey spoke the other day about being "managed" last year. He thinks it's selector speak for dropped. They've got some slowies in their defence. I think we want to exploit them.
I think it’s a combination of this and not wanting to let their defence and mids link up on rebound. If we can force them to stop and kick (especially with the current 15m interpretation), then we have a much better chance of reducing their scoring.

With all that said, I don’t know if De Goey really offers more pressure than Membrey anyway 😂

De Goey offers the ability to be a game winner.

Fly probably thinks with Brisbane's stacked midfield we need JDG who can rotate in there as opposed to Membrey who can only play forward.
As for Cox, there will come a situation in next few weeks where DC will need a rest or chop out. Would like to see Cox rucking full time in the VFL in the meantime.

Thats not something they would do tbh, taking away from the development that Steene and Smit need. Cox will only be there to support them when one is on the bench and the other in the forward line. Not to mention Cox isn't a full time ruck anyway, he's forward/ruck, so he'll chop out when the kids need a rest.
