Next to Kyron Hayden there's nobody else who comes that close to being a like-for-like replacement playing Marley Williams' role.

I don't think Sam Wright can cover that, Bailey Scott might, Kyron Hayden is close but still a raw prospect.

You've obviously got a relationship with Kyron as you've been his biggest cheerleader here, but reality says it's got nothing to do with being one of Brad's boys. Apart from playing 2 games as a tagger, he's done nothing else of note. Let's see him put a good run of form together before he even gets considered.

I have history as a coach, that's why I know what he is capable of. I'm more than aware of the boys club selections that go on.

Jy Simpkin chats to North Media following our first win of the season.

“Here we come”; that’s the message from Jy Simpkin following North Melbourne’s victory over Adelaide on Saturday night.
The two-goal win was North’s first of the season, and one the forward hopes can kick-start 2019. “Once we got that first win, which we did tonight, hopefully we can get on a bit of a roll,” Simpkin told North Media post-game.
“All the boys are up and about, and all we needed was that first one, so here we come.”

Jy Simpkin’s personal form could also mirror the up-turn in his side’s performance, following a season-best outing against the Crows. After a slow start to the year, the 21-year-old showed glimpses of his form from 2018, collecting 19 disposals and taking eight marks. “I got involved early, and I got involved a little bit more than I did in the past few games,” he said. “I had a bit of a slow start to the season, so it was good to get a bit of the ball and get into the game.” For Simpkin, maintaining an optimistic outlook was key to ensuring he could turn his form around. “It’s just about keeping positive and having all the boys around,” Simpkin said. “I just kept reassuring myself that I’m good enough to play at the level. “I wanted to keep working hard, because if you work hard, things will finally go your way.” There’s little time for North to savour the victory, with a very important match set for Friday.

The Roos will host Essendon at Marvel Stadium in the annual Kick for the Kids match, with both sides coming off impressive victories.

“It’s something we’ve looked forward to all year,” Simpkin added. “That’s the one circle we put in the calendar at the start of the year, and all the boys are looking forward to it. “We can’t wait.”

When I interpret the media speak that currently emanates fro the club, I pick up a sense of an entity that is simply content with being competitive.

Conversely, back in the 90's I remember reading that Pagan would address new players at their first training session with something like, "welcome to North Melbourne. our goal is to win this years premiership".

HAWTHORN coach Peter Schwab last night boldly predicted the Hawks would win the 2004 premiership.

Speaking at the club's season launch, Schwab said the Hawks had to aim high.
He said all great players and all great teams "put themselves out there".

"When you do that you succeed and really cop a lot of attention," he said.

"We don't mind the attention because we want to succeed."

Schwab said later he wasn't being flippant with his prediction, but said it could be reassessed during the season if things weren't going to plan.

He said he expected the team to finish in the top four.

"To win a premiership you really have to finish in the top four and that's what we are aiming for," he said.

Schwab said the Hawks could not go into the season saying they would be happy to finish ninth or 10th.

"We are going to aim much higher than that. If you aim higher, there is some leeway there," he said.

Schwab said the Hawks had been very active during the draft period, signing Simon Beaumont, Danny Jacobs and Trent Croad.

The Hawks also screened their new Matrix-style membership commercial during last night's launch at the Hoyts cinema at Chadstone shopping centre

So much of the way the club and coach use language is wishy washy. I dunno whether its a symptom of modern times and management speak or whatever but it non committal. And that is probably a fair enough thing. If you aren't talking about footy. But if you want to talk about a footy season and accomplishing something you either say nothing in public "we're just taking it one week at a time" or every time you speak you reinforce that you are aiming to win and will win and win well - ie by singing the club song after wins with the words "North Melbourne will be Premiers in (INSERT CURRENT YEAR HERE)."

Even if it doesn't rhyme.

Personally I think all of the clubs problems on field stem from that change.

Exactly mate.
The words are powerful they convey the deep seated belief patterns.
If we are hopeful that things will go our way, and hopefully we will win.
If they don't, then we have already accepted that scenario, long before it happened.
My opinion is that the difference between elite athletes, is the 10% between their ears. Whatever that % gap is
