I mostly agree LN.

I would start JvR up forward, but IF he struggles early, I would send him into our defence to play CHB.

I agree with your other Outs.

Melk and Petty into the forward-line. with Turner in defence... switch Turner with JvR if Roy struggles.

He has been struggling all year. He has managed a total of 8 marks and 4 goals across 6 games.

Why will this be the week he finally turns it around?

JvR has been struggling for a couple of years in the Goody-ball style of play. Any young full forward would struggle in this method of ball movement.

But now, as we start to move the footy quicker, and often thru the corridor (yippee) the young fella deserves more time trying at tall forward.

IF then as i said, if he continues to struggle to mark the footy... that should be the time to send him back to the defence. switch with Daniel turner. Turner with Petty, both forward.

Following up from this, I would send JvR back to Casey to play as a defender, just to give him some time to unwind from years of neglect, of lacking decent feeding.

Maybe up to 6 weeks in the back-half allowing him the freedom to be an intercept back-man with attacking freedoms.

From there it should be time to see him start to flourish again as a forward.

Remember both TMc and Pederson both played really well as high tall forwards and neither were quick.

The named extended bench is: Turner, Petty, Johnson, Laurie, Lindsay, Fullarton, Howes and Chandler.

Got to think Chandler, Lindsay, Turner and Petty are locks to play especially with the on field backline only having two talls and no genuine talls named on field in the forward line.

That would leave Laurie the only really viable sub. Putting aside the real possibility of a player named on the field misses out.

That team is missing a second ruck though up against Fort and McInerney. I’m not sure Johnson or Fullarton would be much more effective than Petty and Turner though in that role.

They have ruined JVR by playing him pinch hitting in ruck he is not a genuine ruck/forward IMO.

JVR has been okay in the past in the 2nd ruck role but he's been terrible in both roles for most of the year unfortunately. Confidence is rock bottom. He dominates at Casey then comes back in and struggles against a good defence and he's dropped again.

All of this bouncing around ain't good for anybody. Problem is all of our talls are about the same ability, with them all teetering on the edge of selection/getting dropped and none able to perfom consistently.

I think they bulked JVR up too much to get him playing first banana and 2nd ruck. He barely launches at the footy/splits packs anymore which was his strength early days. Needs to drop some weight so he can cover the ground more and get involved.

I like him long term still as he's a competitor, can kick straight and when he's on his hands are good.

I’ve managed to get to training for the first time in years.

No real clues on selection. The entire extended squad are training together in match sim drills.

May looks terrible. Fumbling, immobile, out of position, missing kicks.

May's drop off has been unbelievable.

On more positive notes vs. May looking like he does in games these days… at least he gives lots of coaching to Turner on positioning and decision making.

On that Turner is playing as a defender in these drills. Petty a forward.

Melksham is marking everything. Beating taller opponents consistently with superior body work.

Pickett is getting on the end of lots of scoring attempts and mostly converting them.

These are 8 on 8 drills starting in the back pocket and once the ball is worked to the centre it turns over to come back the other way. It’s very man on man. No zones.

Viney still in concussion protocols. Participating in non contact drills. He was the kicker for a drill where the forward was back leading. I’d say the forward had about a 20% success rate marking the ball. In training. 1 on 1. With no third man up. If it’s running that low in training conditions, how will it go in games? They are at least training it I guess.
