In terms of ruck, we may need to also consider Jordan Roughead to take some minutes, even if that means Reid covers down back for a bit. But Reid should be able to hold up for 10% ruck minutes anyway
We actually may get some positional changes, (and the inbuilt flexibility benefits) forced upon us.
Checkers could go back, Howie could go forward.
This is a good time of the year to be finding out how we cope without Cox providing the structural focal point.

On the logic that Lynch is our future and Reid is our past. With Lynch in we'd have more then another personal to cover for Cox. It's not like we are desperate. If we were desperate then that is when Reid should come in. Reid isn't a part of our future plan. It would have been a great time to debut Lynch.

Isn't our future plan to play Port Friday night? Pretty sure he's included in that.

Flippancy aside, we aren't playing that well that we can make long term calls on player development ahead of more basic needs to get 4 points so we need to pick the best possible 22 from available players. This week, that includes Reid.

I think Reidy can hold down the 10% of rucking requirements required of him.

Can he command the 20-40m area like Coxy does though? He can take a grab, if the forward structures hold up and he gets some clean air I think he'll be fine, looking forward to seeing him back in the side

At 30, with 6-7 years of injury and poor form behind him, im going to say he's just keeping Cox's seat warm for 1-2 games but we'll see.

I think we'll notice how important cox is structurally when he's missing and we bomb it long and the Port talls rebound it

I think he'll be good. He'll understand the structure and where to run to seperate the defenders. He'll read the game well and he'll get to dangerous spots. If they try to sag off him, he'll kick goals, otherwise he'll provide a contest.

He'll be less effective than Cox in the ruck and he'll be less effective at bringing balls kicked on top of his head to ground, particularly to advantage - but Cox has every other forward around covered for those two areas.

VFL Bully

Forum Bully :p

Remember when Reidy surprised us last year in the Crows match? Turned around the expectation of an honorable loss and helped us on the way to a very memorable win. He got his goal radar on, put himself in some good positions and gave us options.

I am going to go out on a limb and say he will really get amongst the top goal scorers on Friday

Hopefully we won't need to rely on too many long bombs down the line. Reid has shown a capacity to work hard up the ground to provide options. Most of his 12 marks were uncontested because he was smart about his leads and simply out-worked his opponent. Wasn't as if he was battling some no-name kids either with Francis and Hartley holding down the KPD slots for the Bombers. Also impressed with his ruckwork, even on those occasions when opposed to Draper.

I think Reid offers something a little different to Cox, which is more of a lead up target. I actually think we miss this a little bit. De Goey probably is the main guy to do this. But the Power have Wines, Boak, Powell-Pepper and Rockliff in the middle, so we might need De Goey's physicality in the centre at times.

I don't back Reid's body to do it all season, but for a few matches here and there, he actually offers something a bit different.

I only mentioned that it was interesting, not a guide to the future.

Given we only play five teams twice a year and probably only one of those at the most will be an interstate team, four sounds about right.

In our history we have only played 13 home games v Port (excluding finals) in the 22 years they have been in the comp. We are 4-0 at Docklands and 4-5 at the MCG. So it is an interesting anomaly given historically Collingwood don’t play well at Docklands.
Assuming Reid does come in does this mean that Stepho will go back to his old role playing closer to goals and Reid playing up the ground?

So first line is Stepho, Elliott and JDG?

And JDG of those lays the most tackles, really want Stephenson and Elliot to lift there defensive output. I don’t think Stephenson far off his first VFL run.

What's this about Treloar going for scans? Will he make it for Friday? We will miss him if he doesn't and there's no one in the reserves to cover for him on current form
