Depending on the opponents we might not need the extra defender.
Roughead and Moore (talls), Langdon and Howe (mids) and Crisp and Maynard (smalls) makes 6 defenders already.

In my opinion we should always have a seventh defender in the 22. None of our mids are good down back, maybe Adams but need him in the middle considering Beams’ and Sidebottom’s average forms.

Why the hell does every one think Sier will instantly fix our clearance issues? He was struggling to get a clearance in the 2's lol.

I think it's mostly based on what Sier did second half of last year. He played limited minutes but was still an elite clearance player. When he has part of the centre clearance group we had our best centre clearance numbers. He plays a style of footy on ball that compliments our current group and adds something we lack. A relentless attack at the ball, pace to create space and an intent to get the ball forward at all costs. He's direct.

I do agree that calls for him to come straight in are premature. He's been injured. But if he gets a clean run in the VFL and shows form (which he did in his one game) he should absolutely be selected because we're better with him in the side.

Very happy to be wrong. I thought a suspension was a cert.
Somebody made a cox of himself last time, so he won’t let us say howe did he make that decision this time?

Yep. Just needs some luck with Injuries

A lot of people are suggesting that we need Sier to help with clearances which could possibly be right but I’m also wondering whether his numbers would have been good due to the congested nature of the Footy last year. Now that there is less numbers around stoppages could it be possible that he loses a bit of an advantage in that area?

Won't know until he comes back in

Hard to see us making many changes from a winning team. Probably, Billy in for someone and maybe Aish at most, unless of course a player is injured or sick.

In: aish, Elliot
Out: Greenwood, Brown
Tough on Brown really but Elliot comes into the forward line with de goey playing in the middle much more

One certainty.

If Elliott is fit he’s back in.

Can not be convinced we’d not have scored a couple of extra yesterday if Elliott played.

The difficulty for the “next” defender is the solidity of the group at present.

The two big boys are locked in:
Moore and Roughead (Dunn the real deal ofcourse but he’s injured)

The next four are locked in:
Langdon, Howe, Maynard, Crisp (these four are just a lock).

The extra defender is somewhat more open with:
Aish, Varcoe, Greenwood all lurking.

Then follows:
Appelby, Quaynor.

Plus once fit and firing Scharenberg makes his claim.

Hard to get a gig.

Out: Greenwood
In: Elliott

Varcoe to spend less time running around like a headless chook and hold down a pozy down back.
Elliott last week started to look as if he was building on endurance and looked good rotating up the ground. Hopefully he returns and continues building.

Elliott is an automatic in but I just watched the replay and I think our selectors have a hard job this week.

I wouldn’t be dropping Greenwood for the game against Port this week.

His game was very solid.

I love his clean hands which were instrumental in JDG final goal but 0 tackles for Thomas as a small forward in a pressure game is not a good return. I probably leave out Brown but JT needs to improve that part of his game imo.

Agree, I think Brown may make way for Elliott, but I dont know who, if anyone, makes way for Aish. Maybe Varcoe?

Port didn't finish well, but they have some weapons we need to be wary of.

Rozee, the two Grays and Ebert up forward makes their forward line a mirror image of ours. And appears to be just as dangerous.

Greenwood was our 7th defender against Essendon, but we should seriously consider him on Boak. Which means Aish returns as the 7th defender.

Elliott returning does two things: potency up forward and De Goey in the middle. Might help our clearance numbers against Wines and co.

Ryder and Lycett go okay against Grundy so, funnily enough, the hit outs might not be as predictable in this game, which may mean our midfield might do better (odd logic, I know, but think about it).

Varcoe is my out - unless he's preferred as the 7th defender. Brown is the other.

I wouldn’t be dropping Varcoe either.

Good luck to the selectors next week

Agree I think we need to De Goey in the middle. We need to starve their forwardline of opportunities, and I don't think our current set up is getting that done yet. Realy need to win this one to cement ourselves in the top 4, and with Cartlon the following week we should get to 6 and 2 and be well positioned for a top four finish.
