Exactly the basis of my argument but their brains couldn't comprehend what I was trying to tell them because their own teams success relies so much on individual brilliance.
And there it is...

That is why Melbourne struggled for so may decades. not a curse, but a desire to have just a few good men, to win games., without much team defence.

I expect the same this game. Unless it will be a statement game (I don't think it will).

If Laurie is fit I would replace Bedford with him.
If McDonald is injured Weid is in (seems like a no brainer)
Dunstan out for Viney.
If Salem is fit then Brayshaw to the wing.
I am unsure if Melkhsam has 199 games (according to his wikipedia) or 197 games according to footwire.com
- I don't think he had a game on the same level of Harmes this week but this seems like a great time to get to the 200 and then that will be it.
I got caught out by footywire as well. so I went to check his profile on Mfc website...

He is on 199 games.

Has Dave Misson been our guest fitness guy with Salem? He'll end up missing half the season at this rate, ah well.

Hopefully Langdon is okay, Viney in for Dunstan if he's fit, reckon Melk will be selected again but he shouldn't.

Goody mentioned "our game stacking up at the backend of the season when it really counts" in his presser.

Maybe a forewarning that we are about to go (or have started going) into the heavy training load again. Pretty sure we started about this time last year?

Would make sense if we started this week with a 2 win lead on the rest of the comp, Freo, Sydney, Collingwood then the bye. Primed for Brisbane the following week.

Perhaps myself and others need to temper our expectations over the next 3 weeks. 2 wins might be a far better outcome than we realise.

Thought it was more post bye that we did that. This time last year we had just lost to the Crows and were about to play the Dogs and Lions.

Maybe right, I just remember it coinciding with Queens Birthday thats all.

Reckon we wouldnt want to go into the Lions game in the midst of a heavy training load knowing that game could mean something at the end of the season?

Don’t hear much talk from the team about trying to improve connection forward of centre at the moment. Seem happy focusing on the defensive style while banking wins until qualified for top 4.

People are a bit too focused on this. We played a few weeks of globetrotter footy and people think it's the standard but it's not. If we keep our opponents to under 60 we are gonna win pretty much any game. That's our game.
Part of that is locking the ball in the front half so we can set up safe defensively.

If you lower your eyes too much and miss targets you can open yourself up to rebounds and to the defense not being in position.

Great defence and good attack is better than a good defence and great attack.

We seem to flick a switch where when the team feels like its got momentum we will take more risks going forward, when we don't we are happy to just get the ball forward and create stoppages which allows us to set up behind the ball and teams can't score against us. It also let's us conserve energy unlike Carlton so we don't fade out in the second half.

Yeah I mean even at 3qtr time of the GF Goody asked for our best defensive qtr. We easily have the best defence in the comp so not surprising the strategy to win and even close out games is based on it. A lot of fans just want to see the globe trotter footy and crush sides but Goody is all about the business.

Last year was pretty much the perfect year in terms of development and timing of the game style so hopefully the forward connection improves in the back half of the year again.
