Second half of our year wasn't any better than our first last year, we lost to pies, GWS an the dogs. Our finals were where it kicked off.
Oliver kicks a goal on the run in the GF, he's kicked one for the whole season. It was a little lightning in a bottle.

Combine that with Geelong and the Dogs essentially giving up when they realised we were gonna win.

I'd love to see globetrotter footy but I think it's kinda forgotten we didn't play it for the majority of the year last year. Even in the HnA wins against Brissie WB and Geelong we belted them in one quarter and did enough or were crap in the rest.

We definitely go into conservative mode when we know we're in a strong position and I agree we didn't really belt those sides you mentioned, but geez that second half against Brisbane was super powerful footy.

Part of the reason our forward connection improved in finals is the nature of finals football. More contested, players tire, and especially in finals where you have two different systems when one gets ascendancy over the other the momentum tends to lead to heavy scoring

Our run into finals this year is ideal, starting basically from now. Crazy how tough the draw is going to be.

Freo - current top 4 side
Swans - likely top 4 side
Collingwood - side we lost to last year
Brisbane - top 4 last year, top 2 currently
Adelaide - side we lost to last year
Geelong - prelim finalist 2021
Port - prelim finalist 2021
The Western™️ - our bunnies
Fremantle - current top 4 side
Collingwood - side we lost to last year
Carlton - current top 4 side
Brisbane - top 4 last year, top 2 currently

In theory the two ‘easy’ games there are to sides who managed to take us down last year, plus the fallen The Western™️ and Port.

But with those last few games in particular it’s a bit like Richmond’s run into finals in 2019 (except without all the games at the MCG). The challenge will be balancing wanting to tune up for finals with not wanting to burnout against likely finals opponents - which the Tigers did well.

So basically, we need to fill our list with sub-175cm players, as Bowey and Spargo just win.
It kind of makes sense in a way. As we saw in 2019 and to an extent 2020 Spargo is the kind of player who is going to struggle in a shit side, but will thrive in a good one where he’s able to be carried to an extent because the benefits of his strengths are amplified.

Duck! That's a tough run from now. Wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a worse H&A record than last year. Still expect us to make Top 2 but there's some tough games in that lot..

I think Melbourne can afford to drop 4 out of the next 12 games and still expect to be top 2 at the end of the season (so one more win than last year). That is factoring in Lions/Blues/Freo/Saints all dropping games, which they will as they all play each other at least once plus a loss to an unexpected team will happen.

For me the losses that are more likely to happen (if they happen) are Geelong at GMHBA, Lions at Gabba and a rando out of nowhere.

I still think we will lose one to either Collingwood or Sydney. Can't see Freo beating us. Would be unreal going into the bye 13-0,but I suspect we'll lose one just before. Not the worst thing.

So long as we drop Bowey that week.

In my mind, we must beat Brisbane both times. I'd like to keep them as low on the ladder, as possible.

Would rather lose to a 'finals imposter', than a team that could shake the teams in the top 8.

Lets get the poorest teams into the finals. HaHa.
