Harmes has done a pretty good job on Neale in the past hasn't he?

My preference would be to have Viney playing ahead of Sparrow as I think we're a greater chance of winning with him in. I get the other view though, we need to think long term about the season as a whole. I just don't think this week is the game for it

We played Brayshaw on him at the Gabba last year IIRC

I don't think what I'm saying will happen but vineys one dimensional and not a difference maker against Brisbane and Id rather see if Sparrow and co are sooner rather than later

I'm not against him having a go on him at some point in the match. Can also put Riv or May on him if he's struggling. It would be bold but I don't mind it.

FC shouldn't bring in a bloke who has had a hampered pre-season because he did ok on Cameron once before

I doubt they'll bring back all 4 of them at once, agree Salo needs to play VFL first at least.
I'd still rest any of them if they aren't completely ready, it's a long season.

The match against the dogs was probably the best footy we've played for most of last season. The defensive pressure was consistent across 4 quarters and we had even contributors. Judd McVee created a bit of a buzz so it'd be nice to see him get another go.

Rivers or Bowey won't be dropped surely! Salem will play in the two's is my gut feel. McVee to get another week. I think the other three all come in, although I wouldn't be against resting May for another week as Tommo did a great job last week. Will be some tough calls this week. Would be surprised if all 4 come in. Reckon there could be some funny buggers going on with the Lions there. My gut feel is

I'll be disappointed if McVee got dropped. He didn't set the world on fire, but looked solid enough in a winning side. Didn't look out of place unlike Laurie who didn't look up to it at all. Tommo stiff but May/Petty just better players.

PS - I didn't mind Melk as sub. Thought he provided a spark which is what you want from the sub

Talk of needing to protect McVee from playing on Cameron or even drop him so he doesn't have to reminds me of talk that we needed to drop Bowey for the finals in 2021 because he'd only played a few games.

You don't pick a young kid in the starting 18 of a top 4 AFL side if you think you've got to hide him from playing on dangerous players.

And you don't put a kid who's played 0 games on Dusty Martin in a practice match if you're not getting him ready to play on the best players.

Surely he plays. Not fussed who he plays on, whether it's McCarthy or Cameron or somebody else.

That's just your opinion that McVee is "the worst option for the job". My point is that if you're selected as a medium defender in round 1 and play well it's very unlikely that our coaching staff are going to shit themselves at the idea of him matching up on any of the Brisbane small forwards.
