Sinn, DBJ, Farrell, Esava; if fully fit come straight back in.

Port should consider omitting:
  • Burton: Quickly becoming a depth player.
  • Moraes: Let the kid play in the seconds and finally have a chance at finding the pill.
  • Boak: Honestly is becoming a liability with his poor ball use and father time is catching up to him.
  • Lord: Poor for the last four games. Should consider himself lucky most of the talls are injured or not yet ready.
  • Atkins: Stiff but he is a depth player and there are others I would choose ahead of him.
  • Mead: For the billionth time already, he shouldn’t be playing AFL. Offers nothing.

I would give Sweet a few more games to build a solid block of work and then assess whether Dante can hold his spot. I don’t want Sweet coming back and offering nothing with his hit outs and not being able to take a mark down the line.

GWS are not in great form at all. They were lucky to make a massive comeback and beat Richmond on the weekend.

If we somehow pull a win out here, we then play our next 3 games at home against Melbourne (12th), Sydney (14th) and Carlton (13th). We could easily get on a mini run and be 8-7 and Hinkley is no chance of leaving for the rest of the year. Basically if we win this, Hinkley won't be leaving early for 2025. A lot riding on this game.
I think we need to stop worrying about when they will pull the trigger on Ken and worry more about getting some confidence back in this group so that we can hit the ground running in 2026.

The bye seemed like as good of a time as any at 4 and 7 on the back of 4 losses (including 3 beltings) in a row, but that moment has passed. It looks like they are going to now wait until shit has completely hit the fan, and it isn't mathematically possible to make finals, so the 11 loss mark. And I'm not sure having that happen as soon as possible is going to be good for this group moving forward.

Reaching the depths of 4 and 11 or worse will be far more detrimental to the group than say letting Ken coach it out but actually getting some wins on the board.

Ken is going, we are nearly there. If getting some wins and confidence back in this group means we have to wait until the end of the year to say goodbye i'm okay with that.

Carr needs to start to build his identity in the team and list yesterday. He need to set standards and drive them. Needs to work out who is up to scratch as players and coaches.

if we could call it today, for sure. But what i was saying is they are going to let things get much worse than this before they do it, and i'm not sure that is helpful.

up until this week i have rejected shifts that clash with the port games, but i cant stand watching so i have purposely picked up a shift for this Saturday night.

IN: Sweet, Sinn, Ratugolea, Lorenz, Farrell

OUT: Visentini, Lord, BZT, Mead, Boak

Sub: Lorenz (1 quarter of AFL, then time managed in SANFL a day later)
i like those changes

Sweet needs to deserve a recall, has only played 1 SANFL game (average one mind you), dropping vis after one bad game is very rough, all young rucks are prone to having a bad game against a great ruckman.

Plus GWS ruck is out, Vis will kill Lachie Keefe/Nicholoas Madden, our midfield has functioned a little bit better with Dante as appose to Sweet.

Sweet played 2 SANFL games, you missed his 18 disposal, 40 hitout, 2 goal game vs North.

Problem is this club has been basing decisions on false dawns for a while. Making some harsh and stronger decisions for a change would be a good result and is far more likely to occur if we are producing dire results.

Scrape through to a 10+ win season and they'll use injuries, bad luck, etc, as an excuse and call the year a blip and stay the course.

This 'stability' and 'consistency' in our approach is such a limiting approach, breeding mediocrity, but our board still mistakenly believes it to be the way to go. We need the 'strong club' myth to be blown apart and the 'never rebuild' mentality to be forgotten.

Visentini has been average all year, and didn't step up to AFL level any better. We all hope Vis is our next key ruck but right now his development is stalling and he doesn't deserve the spot.

And Sweet hasn’t been average? There’s a reason he got dropped. You can’t seriously expect Sweet to deserve a recall on the basis of one game.

So Georgiades plays as the lone tall in the forward line?
Go short with Finlayson as fwd/ruck, SPP as a quasi tall. We'll get more out of an extra runner than we will with Lord.

You seem to be contradicting yourself: ‘his development is stalling’ so therefore you drop him to set back his development even faster, even further?

If you look at the future, starting with the rest of this season, Dante has more of a claim than does Sweet whose career is largely behind him. Commonsense.

Or do you really support Hinkley ruining yet another young tall and seeing him leave Alberton in a trade at the end of this year? I’ll bet other clubs are already after him. So, okay, drop him; make their job easier.

oh right my bad.

Even so i think he needs to string together a few dominant games, and vis needs consecutive bad games in a row.

Yeah I get that, but changes are coming at the end of this season unlike previous ones.

They aren’t staying the course, Carr will have his own path. Whilst he isn’t a senior coach yet by title he would already be working on what changes he needs to make in 2026.

So what’s most important is that the list is healthy, we have no need to push players back from injury too early anymore, so we need to manage that carefully and I would rather we started playing to a competitive level again so they aren’t completely out of confidence going into the 2026 pre season.

I want this year to be more like GWS in 2022 or the Pies in 2021 in Cameron and Buckley’s final year that were transition years, and a quick bounce back from bottom 4 to a prelim the following year under a new regime.

I think sometimes people can overreact and think we need to sack absolutely everyone and gut the whole list but whilst we definitely need some changes in off field roles, the list in my opinion has enough talent and the age profile suggests it can bounce back without needing to go down the full rebuild path, which can be a long road to recover from.

What exactly did BZT do wrong in his first game for the season after a long term and severe back injury?

He's too underdone, looks like he's running in quicksand. Ratugolea hopefully fit and takes that spot.

He's also played 4 games, not 1.
