I've got a feeling we lose this one badly.

Carlton is copping all the heat from the media, their supporters are angry, everything seems primed for them to come out and have a response this week.

I think we are ahead of Carlton in the stages of grief or something because despite being worse than them this year and having a worse loss on the weekend than Carlton, there is literally no heat on us, the supporters have all given up, the media just don't seem to care about us and because Hinkley is already gone there is no heat on the coach.

We seem to have nothing left to play for now, and i think this will play out on thursday. Whereas Carlton will want a response and their fans are demanding it.

Whether it causes the club to act or not is up for the debate but a big loss to Carlton would have to get all parties thinking...surely.

Wont matter who we play we will win comfortably Voss is on borrowed time and many think he has lost the playing group, he won't be coaching Carlton next year. carlton are pretty much a club in crisis, Kenny will chalk up another win this week and come out and say we can still make finals because he is a dillusional human. Just looking foward to round 23 to wave goodbye to Ken for ever, until then just hoping to see some young ones like Lorenz and Jackson get a fair run.
Yeah I'm not too sure - Carlton came good in the last quarter and they probably have more of a point to prove - it's all the Vic Media have talked about for the past 24 hours. After watching our game yesterday we were putrid. I haven't heard anyone else comment on Butters not going for goal and deciding to kick it sideways to (?) maybe Drew? SPP taking out his own team mates...twice, Burton jogging 10 metres behind the contest, and Georgiardis stopping Rozee's goal from going through. We were laughable. I'm not sure if we have the mental fortitude to pull it together by Thursday.

No Vic media watched the [non-Victorian] game other than the commentators, that's why. The Last Crack gave the game 5 minutes fawning over how good Sydney are with a full team, Sunday Footy Show the same but barely 90 seconds. SPP was highlighted on Bounce though, because it was so hilarious obviously.

We won’t and don’t mental fortitude hasn’t been a highlight of the Hinkley era

We will lose and lose well and Ken will chortle and summarise it as a tough competition, blame infectious diseases and repeat the obvious

Pretty clear that Mead, Finlayson, Burton, Sweet should be on the chopping block.
You can't drop Finlayson and Sweet. With our forward line the way it is right now, one of them has to play. The other option is Lord of course, but he's been worse than these two.

For me, Finlayson plays. He is comfortably our best forward/ruck option.

I'm also not sure if Visentini over Sweet is a sure thing.

Sweet attended 19 ruck contests for 12 hit outs, whilst Dante attended 64 for 15 hit outs.

Both finished with 5 disposals, sweet took 2 marks and a tackle, Dante took 1 mark and 2 tackles. Sweet had significantly less ToG than Dante.

Stats don't tell the full story, but Dante was monstered in the final quarter. I'm not saying one or the other, but it's not as obvious an answer as some would suggest.

If the two ruck model isn't going to work then we need to play Finlayson as much as he doesn't deserve it because Lord's had plenty of chances and shown he isn't AFL quality. At least we know there is an AFL quality player in Finlayson if he plays with the right attitude and better headspace.

Anyone thinking that we would've been better off with Lord and only one ruck is kidding themselves.

There were literally so many elements to our game that were wrong yesterday, it was a disaster from start to finish and a comprehensive smashing across every line and completely unwatchable. The two rucks model is copping a fair bit of attention here but the alternatives aren't great either.
I think Lord is definitely AFL quality - he's just in horrible form. Remember - talls often take time, but he's shown enough glimpses of his quality over the journey to suggest he can make it.

Having said that, I completely agree with everything else you've said, and I wouldn't be picking Lord right now.

Let's real here, the defence was just straight up awful. Aliir going out essentially destroyed whatever structure the back has and it really does highlight how integral he is to the team as frustrating he can be at times.
Defence always looks awful when the midfield is getting smashed. There was no pressure on the kicker, which enabled them to continually hit up leading forwards.

One thing is for sure, Carlton will come out all guns blazing. Will we be caught out is the question.

I agree that Finlayson has more up side than Sweet as the back up. Finlayson can play forward if he has to whereas Sweet is either the no1 ruck or playing in the Port Magpies. As I have posted Soldo may be worth another look ahead of either Visentini or Sweet. As I keep posting we need a ruckman who can take some marks and get involved in the field play, maybe Soldo can do that, I dunno.

Haven't seen Soldo produce anything close to being worthy of the number 1 spot since he got injured.

Finlayson has the ability to take marks around the ground, be involved in link up play and carry the ball. He has the tools to be the perfect backup ruck, and we've seen it from him in the past.

He's not in great form yes, but neither are the alternatives - so we may as well pick the player with the best profile to the role we need him to play.

Seems like both clubs supporters have just about had enough of insipid performances.
Will this game be as bad as seems likely?
At least port fans know there is changes in coaching ahead ,we on the other hand got no idea what is gonna happen.

Any way good luck on Thursday maybe one of these teams will shock us and play decent football but I think its going to be a hard watch.

If you get Hinkley, sign him up for 2 years then sack him.

the problem is Sweet was pretty ordinary the week before too.

No structural damage on the scan - unlikely to cause further injury and is just a range of movement/pain management issue.
Do you actually believe that? He's cant lift his arms. Every mark he had to go for looked like it completely buggered him. Even running to the bench at times that arm wasn't moving while his other was swinging.

He's in a world of hurt, by no structural damage theyre probably just saying no broken bone. Theres clearly some other major issue, whether it's a busted AC joint or some capsule issue, either way, hes in a world of it and being pushed through/risked.

Could be the most brilliant game of footy of all time and it still wouldn't excite. Couple clubs going nowhere fast, both near certainly out of finals contention. So not much to get excited about.

Carlton will be driven by the fear of failure and some false hope, I sense we are resigned to our fate and will meekly fade away for the rest of the season. Carlton despite there failings bring physicality to the contest, we usually fold under heat.
