Emergencies are meaningless for selection:

Red means "has not played yet this season".
Green means "has played all the games so far this season".

We haven't had any late changes this year yet.

Seriously, I cannot fathom why Port would omit Lorenz after one week. He was solid and showed something. But no, they omit him. Jed McEntee gets picked despite having no form coming into the week. I would rather Berry's touches because he actually at least has class whereas McEntee just isn't an AFL footballer.

What does Hugh Jackson have to do to finally debut? 27 touches and 2 goals in a losing team. The midfield has been getting belted with contested ball and clearances and they need all the help they can get. What is the point of keeping him on the list if he can't break into the team? What was the point of resigning him for another 2 years if he cannot get a game with the midfield as it is?

Meanwhile, Jackson Mead still gets games when he has been average and vanilla as heck for the majority of his career. Ryan Burton is meh and does not want to defend or rather refuse to have any body contact with the opposition and Finlayson just does not put in the effort.

Rewarding mediocrity. Just perfect Port.

I thought we had gone past Jed McEntee but apparently not. This is close to the worst Port side I have seen in a while.

What has happened to Zerk-Thatcher? Obviously not fully recovered.

Lorenz is unlucky as is Hugh Jackson.

This could get very ugly, I would say Crows by 60+. That on top of the Crows probably beating the Port Magpies in the curtain raiser, yuck I am not looking forward to Saturday.

Jed McEntee FFS. Hopefully Ken takes his golden boy Jed with him when he leaves. McEntee will play his 47th game for Port this weekend and is now only three games from claiming Stephen Daniels title as the worst player to play 50 AFL games for Port Adelaide. Geez, I am pissed off. I had better stop before I post something I will later regret.

Port are going backwards.

Dante for Sweet seems fair.
Sinn back in for Evans is fair enough. Evans looks pretty good again but Sinn is the guy
Moraes back in for Lorenz. I feel sorry for Lorenz but Moraes is obviously first choice.

McEntee back for Berry is a farce but I kinda don't care. I probably would've kept Lorenz in there.
Burton back for Rioli is also a farce but I just don't kinda care.

I think PJ Power said it all. A few SANFL players, old players, youngish players and about 8 to 10 guys who will have to do the heavy lifting to get a win. Considering the Cows are good all over the park, we are little to no chance. We will need a couple of guys to pull a rabbit out of the hat.

If the Crows break even in the midfield and they will probably outwork us early, the Crows forward line will be very difficult to defend against with the players we have.

We don't have good matchups for the majority of them. They might kick a huge score on us. Bergman is a good matchup on Forgarty. After that, I'm a tad worried.

In all seriousness, we’re going in with a combination of players who are out-of-form or over-the-hill (Wines, DBJ, Burton, Finlayson), clearly not up to AFL standard (McEntee, Mead) or unproven and possibly not ready (Lord, Sinn, Moraes, Visentini). That doesn’t include average players (Ratugolea, Farrell, Jones).

That leaves Butters, JHF, Rozee, Bergman, Georgiades, Aliir, SPP, Burgoyne, Drew to somehow create a win.

It ain’t happening folks. Forget bottom 6, our bottom 14 are not good enough.
I'd class Drew as out of form. Has been horrible this year.

McEntee and Burton for Berry and Rioli is ridiculous. Which small forwards are going to actually lock goals?

Ken has gone back to the well of.focusing entirely on defensive acts in the forward line and forgetting about scoring.

We've picked a side to lose by less. I hope Georgiades is looking forward to being triple teamed.

I'd class Drew as out of form. Has been horrible this year.
That's where I initially listed his name (next to Wines as being out-of-form) and then gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I heard an interview with Dean Brogan this week where he provided damning stats about our midfield's performance this year, with some crazy deficit in numbers of second possession after clearance and ground ball gets. Those statistics were from before the WB game too, making it even more alarming. Drew, Wines, Butters, JHF, Rozee, Mead are the players responsible for that and Carr is the culprit line coach.

Even if people think that Carr will be a better senior coach than Hinkley, how many actually think he is doing his job well as our current midfield coach? How many think he did his job properly in the 2023 and 2024 finals series, or in three of the past four showdowns, or the last 2 MCG games against Collingwood?

News bulletin.....our midfield despite having 2-3 young "superstars" is not doing well and has been our biggest weakness in all matches that have really mattered over the past 2.5 seasons. The coach and players responsible need some real heat on them.

How could you forget when we gave young Ratkins a go when he was travelling emergency.

I need to check my notes. I completely missed that.

Once you put out your Willie, the genuine goal scoring medium forwards are non-existent.

I think you are right. It is a team designed to lose by less than win by courage, a hallmark of the Hinkley era.

The Cows big forwards might kick 3 to 4 goals each. Whoever gets Burton will have a field day.

I don't know when the floodgates will open but it would be a miracle if they didn't.

On another note, I wonder if they even up the Houston, Rankine ledger. I doubt they will but it would add some spice.

Good call on Georgiades. They will look to lock him down.

Anything can happen I guess but this game has the Hinkley stamp of approval.

When it comes down to it, you may as well bring in Boak and to a lesser extent, Dixon and Lycett.

The only real interest will be the young guys and how the good guys play. It would be great to see Visentini play well. Moraes as well.

Also we should see how the backline functions as the Cows are stacked.

It will be a guy like Soligo who runs amok.

Our midfield is being found out this year especially with Rozee moving down back.

Butters and the Hornet are awesome. Huge impact on games.

Then daylight.

Wines and Drew are having very little impact on winning games.
Wines does do well with contested ball inside.
Drew is average 17 disposals a game this year as the 4th banana with very limited impact. Not good.
Mead has limited impact. He is looking like midfield backup at best.
Sweet a net negative in the last three games.

I'd seriously think about playing Bergman in there. He could impact significantly.
And to a lesser extent, Powell-Pepper.

After Butters and the Hornet, we just don't have any force or class or skill or gut running in the midfield.

I thought we would fall off a cliff this year but we really are falling off at breakneck speed.

100% about Bergman in the middle he is a class footballer we need something different in there.

Textbook “Ken Hinkley Under Pressure” selections throwing out anything the club’s trying to do youth development-wise in favour of tried and tested failures like McEntee, probably because a spreadsheet or behind the goal camera told him Jed once got within a metre of laying a hand on an opponent.

And the Crows must be laughing their heads off about Burton’s recall, they know as well as us he shirks the physical stuff, has a turning circle like the QE2 and in a high intensity game like the Showdown, will be dead in the water.

And you can set your watch to anything the club’s been trying to do game style-wise getting thrown out tomorrow night as well, in favour of the long bomb party we always revert to at some point every season.
