They could've kept Evans in, left Burton out and played Bergman in the midfield.

That's just a bit too radical for Kenny Average.

The problem is there is only one Miles Bergman and he has probably been our most consistent defender this year. I am wondering if Connor Rozee needs to be used more in the midfield? Rozee has been used in defence quite a bit this year . Rozee and Zak Butters were a pretty effective combination last year. Maybe Ollie Wines goes back? Either way we need a lift in the midfield as too much is being left to Butters and Horne Francis atm.

Of course a lot of the midfield performance will depend on who gets first touch at the stoppages. Dante Visentini is still very much an unknown and he has a tough task ahead. Jordan Sweet did next to nothing in field play but at least he got his fair share of the hit outs and even then we have not had a damaging midfield. I am not against giving Visentini a crack at it but I wish they had picked another game to do it in.

I have a bad feeling about this and I will be happy to be proved wrong.

Sad to see Travis Boak playing seconds games record holder and club great but unfortunately as with Jonas Dixon Lycett no one could make a hard call on their careers and they spend their final season struggling to get a kick in the SANFL

Surely BZT is ready to come in after 2 games in the 2's. God it's not like he has been out for 12 months or something. Playing BZT, Esava and Aliir was the best option by far against their 3 big forwards. Bergman cannot match up well against any of them, he would have been better as the floater.

Allir and Bergman should be ok (you’d think) but the last matchup really worries me.

Dante in is a good inclusion. Whatever sweet is doing isn’t working, his direct opponent has been either best or second best for the oppo in the last 4 games. He still gets lots of hit outs but we are still losing clearance. English gave him the biggest bath I’ve ever seen.

I thought Burton v Evans was a coin flip last week and Evans was poor so probably not a big surprise that one either.

Berry had to be dropped.

Sinn back in is okay too.

Moraes for Lorenz is the weird one, Lorenz didn’t do much wrong and probably deserves more than one game and Moraes brought back in after no SANFL game? Did they think he just needed a weeks rest?

And McEntee lol, that was always going to get people up in arms here. How is he picked ahead of Boak? Is he going to terrorise Rankine or something?

I like this. Rioli out for McEntee is big.

Other than that people need to calm down a bit - all the other changes don't really make that much difference.

It's true Sweet had to go - he was just so bad last week. Visenti might not set the world alight, but he can't be worse.

Isn't Sinn for Lorenz? That is an improvement.

Moraes for Berry will not impact the result in anyway.

I guess you could have kept Berry and Lorenz and not brought in Burton and McEntee but again what difference will that make.

Boak for Mead is no longer making any difference either way.

I think the bigger issue is just how weak our bottom 5-10 are.

1. Lord does ok here and there and then just drifts out of games completely.

2. SPP is a bit the same and misses too many set shots

3. Drew does a bit but can't kick a goal.

4. Wines just 2-3 kick straight to the opposition moments a game.

5. Ratugolea looks a million bucks until he gets completely out positioned defensively and can't do anything with the ball other than kick it long down the line. If he tries anything else he just stuffs it up.

6. Byrne Jones has done nothing this year. What the hell happened to this guy? All Australian defender who went down hill as a defender and was moved to attack and did ok for a while before going down hill at that too.

7. Finnlayson has done absolutely nothing coming on late in games as a sub and pretty much did nothing last year

8. Burton is in and out - I can't believe this guy is only 28. What the hell happened?

9. Mead just doesn't do enough

10. McEntee does even less.

We are going no-where carrying those ten players. At least five of those guys need to be replaced.

Has anyone seen Visentini's form in the Maggies? I'm very concerned about that change this week. Worried about O'Brien absolutely smashing us in the ruck.

This is not the game to make that change.

O'Brien is about the worse ruck in the league.

Sweet has been hopeless and the change needed to be made so why not this week?

ROB destroyed TDK last week FYI. He is definitely not the worst ruck in the league, he monsters people with his size. he has been in bad form recently around the ground, but last week turned it around for sure.

So what should they do with Lorenz?

He gets picked off his form as a centre mid in the SANFL.

I think a good player comparison is Jack Macrae. Hes a bit vanilla but finds the ball, looks to use it and doesn't stuff up too often.

Wines, Rozee and Mead are the 2nd string CBA players, so he would probably have to replace one of them in the rotations.

IMHO it is better to strengthen the midfield at the moment than have the backline as it is.
We need a lot more impact from the centre or it is just going to be a parade into the Cows forward line.

I reckon Butters and the Hornet would greatly benefit from the big body of Bergman in there too.

Given the 5 changes washes out to replacing a forward with a defender, I'd say he's the (washed up 28+) sub this week.

Doubt they'd give Finlayson a third consecutive sub game too.

That's where I initially listed his name (next to Wines as being out-of-form) and then gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I heard an interview with Dean Brogan this week where he provided damning stats about our midfield's performance this year, with some crazy deficit in numbers of second possession after clearance and ground ball gets. Those statistics were from before the WB game too, making it even more alarming. Drew, Wines, Butters, JHF, Rozee, Mead are the players responsible for that and Carr is the culprit line coach.

Even if people think that Carr will be a better senior coach than Hinkley, how many actually think he is doing his job well as our current midfield coach? How many think he did his job properly in the 2023 and 2024 finals series, or in three of the past four showdowns, or the last 2 MCG games against Collingwood?

News bulletin.....our midfield despite having 2-3 young "superstars" is not doing well and has been our biggest weakness in all matches that have really mattered over the past 2.5 seasons. The coach and players responsible need some real heat on them.

Is our defence actually undersized? I don't think size is the issue, i think it is more structural. And one on one match ups don't actually happen much these days.

I think if the Crows get hold of us up forward it will simply be because there forwards are better than our defenders, plain and simple. It is the one area on paper they've got us covered. But Allir is due for a good game i think, Esava just needs to make sure he competes all match and then we've got our general defenders in Bergman, Jones, and Burton that are going to need to provide support against the crows talls.

there is enough height, it is whether we have the right structures and enough talent to compete.

I still think if our midfield actually pulls its collective digits out of their collective arses they should win that battle, and is the crows defence actually that good, i've barely watched the crows all season but on paper their defence reads worse than ours. Why shouldn't this be the real breakout game for Georgiades where he kicks a bag, he has threatened to kick 5 or 6 all season. Finlayson is funny one too, he will either do nothing or be a real headache for the crows.

I struggle to name a worse player on any AFL list than McEntee, Camry defenders must be shaking in their boots.
